I’m two or three weeks into Eve. I’m working through the career programme to familiarise myself with the game.
As I was nearly done mining Kermite in a 0.3 system, in a Venture with a couple of drones orbiting, I was, to put it bluntly, annihilated by another player. Webified, warp disrupted and blown to smithereens before I knew it.
It was partly my fault. I had some music playing so I missed any alerts. I was reading an article on my phone. I was complacent. I paid the price.
Rather than being angry it’s made enjoy the game even more! I’ve had limited pvp experience in the game so far and this just highlighted to me that you can’t take anything for granted, whatever activity you’re doing.
I’m not looking for advice or anything. I just wanted to share.
Oh, how adorably optimistic. You just got vaporized in lowsec for the unspeakable crime of peacefully mining in a Venture while bobbing your head to Spotify and reading Buzzfeed’s “Top 10 Things Only Capsuleers From Jita Will Understand,” and your takeaway is that you love the game even more?
That’s like saying, “I stuck my hand in a blender by accident, but honestly, it was a beautiful reminder that kitchen appliances are not to be trifled with.”
Welcome to EVE, where the only warning you get is past tense. You don’t learn the rules here—you respawn through them. Keep that energy, rookie. You’ll need it the next time someone ganks your mining barge with a ship worth less than your implants.
