I got blasted into space while mining... and I couldn't be happier :)

If you really want to start talking killboards, let’s start posting our best player kills here and see who actually knows what they’re talking about. I’m guessing you don’t really care that much though and you only want to bring up the killboards when it’s convenient for you to attack me.

By the way there is actually a difference between competitive PvP and straight up ganking easy targets. But you know, let’s ignore all of the OBVIOUS nuance here and attack any PvP supporter as a ganker. That makes so much sense.

You keep acting like I’m a ganker when in fact I’m closer to an anti-ganker anti-pirate in this game, but keep being delusional.

I shouldn’t have to spell this out for you, but MAINSTREAM GAMES ARE NOT GOOD.

The gaming industry is practically taking its final breaths as we speak

Just because a bunch of braindead idiots play a game does not make it good  I’m sorry this needs to be explained to you

Not only that, but niche games with lower player populations are just as valid as any other game. No one has the right to tell us what is and isn’t fun in a game, whether it’s popular or not. That’s hateful and un-inclusive, which you people should be vehemently against

You people need to stop trying to think so hard and go play ROBLOX, it’s more suited to your philosophy and playstyle.

Niche games are niche for a reason. Wanting to make them more mainstream is counter-active to the core of the game in the first place.

To make Eve mainstream would make it not Eve any more.

THE ONLY UNADULTERATED PVP IN NEW EDEN.

Except for the fact why it was removed that the people at the top worked together (collusion) with others and alts to farm the rewards and suppress opposition thus the whole ladder and the entire arena became meaningless.

(Assuming you are talking about the arena not the regular proving grounds thing if it is called the same.)

Does EVE need to ‘crack mainstream popularity’ though?

I like the game as it is in this niche of full loot PvP games that never could go mainstream for the fact that full loot PvP games aren’t popular enough.

This same thing that may stop EVE from becoming more popular among gamers also happens to be one of the main reasons I’m playing it.

I think it’s OK that EVE doesn’t go mainstream.

Actually in that particular case i was mining on a belt (1 of 20 in the system) and the guy have managed to find and attack me with his Orthrus. I’ve been doing some hunting in past and i know - it takes some time.
That’s why I was amazed by this attention.
But to each their own. Good luck to him next time.

I don’t think we should measure “mainstream” by the number of players. Rather, I think it should be measured by popularity, which doesn’t necessarily mean usage but how far and wide the game is known.
EVE has been around for 22 years, has won numerous awards both with different gaming platforms and game publishers, the media, and EVE ads are virtually everywhere.
Sounds like it’s very mainstream to me, which again, doesn’t mean it’s liked or used.
The lack of players in the game has, in my mind, nothing to do with it not being mainstream but a lot to do with the fact that it’s a niche game and “niche” doesn’t mean that EVE sits away from the other games in its corner and pouts. It simply means that it specializes in a specific area: Full-loot PvP

The only people who use the “it’s not mainstream enough” argument are the ones who are playing the wrong game, they’re playing an on-purpose niche game to then demand it becomes easier and safer. It’s literal gas lighting and quite a lot of main character syndrome, where everyone who CHOSE to play a game like this (and stuck with it) has to adapt to their ideas.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

One thing it definitely doesn’t mean, is “stating a contrasting viewpoint which is supported by verifiable references to objective reality”. Which is what you’re trying to apply it to, apparently.

I agree that EVE shouldn’t be “groomed for mainstream”, that would be pretty boring. However nobody here was suggesting that it should be, other than you and the other guy busily building strawmen to knock down.

I think the case could be made that EVE should be “less completely niche, and a bit more accessible to the typical MMORPG gamer”, however that’s not the point of this thread.

The thread is about “My ship got blown up and that’s cool”, and the only people going off the rails about “demands” for safe play are you and the other guy. Strawmen, indeed.

I know exactly what it means.

You’re doing it right now.

I’m thinking just the 1 v 1. Capsuleers are so cunning, they find ways to abuse the Group tournaments. But if they had also find ways to abuse the 1 v 1 then all PVP in New Eden is “ADULTERATED.” Which means Eve-Online PVP’ers have nothing to brag about.. And As you said. Proving Grounds was already removed.

“If” the op is telling the truth, then Gratz to him! Anyone enjoying the challenge should be welcome in EVE.

Reminds me of my first character in 2007. Got into my first frigate, an Imicus (I soon learned that Amarr had better looking ships :face_savoring_food:) and went off to low sec without a care. Mined a little Jaspet and then POP with a bunch of text in local about why a newb was mining in low sec lol. I now have mastered evasion and I mine where I want should I feel the desire to do so.

I’m sure this has already been asked or pointed out, but did you neglect to buy a mining permit? :joy:

Ignore all these forum lords Kiddus, I am glad this experience re-enforced your enjoyment of the game and I hope to see you out there shooting at folks in the future!
