I regret to inform that we still don't die enough

Ah…the classic ploy of making out that someone stating a truth must be ‘upset’. The use of this ploy is precisely how the Emperor’s new clothes mindset works in the first place…so thanks for confirming it.

So hmmm let’s see, ad-hominem attack from Gix, which is expected because he’s too thick to realize I already completely defined what I mean by PvP. Twice.

Ad-hominem from Ramona.

Ad-hominem from Destiny.

Ad-hominem by implication from Gerard, who didn’t have the balls to be direct about it.

Decent game suggestion from @Aaron . Thank you again Aaron, for at least making the effort to occasionally contribute in the thread. I keep pondering Warzone but so far I’ve resisted the temptation. Too many games on the list already.

Semi ad-hominem, again by implication, from Aisha.

Welp, that’s the Christmas spirit of the PvP-supporters on the forum I guess. If you can’t win the argument, just smear the poster. It’s so much easier than rational discussion!

Just for reference, the actual stats for my WoT main follow. I don’t even play for stats, don’t platoon, not in an active clan. Just play to experience some decent PvP:

If you’d like, you can point out any post of mine where I do nothing but personally attack the character of the one I’m replying to. Which wouldn’t include, for instance, something that has points, reasons, numbers, data, or positive suggestions for the game.

If someone’s being a fool because they’ve structured their points badly, I call them a fool and say why. There’s a difference between saying “You’re a coward because your forum alt has no PvP” and saying “I love PvP, it’s great, it’s awesome, everything is fine here” while also having a record of almost no PvP for 3 years, living in a dead area of EVE, and half the PvP you do have is just duels.

One is a smear based on no fact at all. The other is saying “your words do not match your actions”, with supporting proof. Cheap attacks with no basis in anything are poor substitutes for reason.

You will reject this, because your forum posting seems to have descended to mostly snark and trolling lately. Which is sad because you used to be a decent poster. Ah well, all good things come to an end I guess.

It happens this way:

Person makes statement/assumption.

I ask how/why.

You say “Ramona is trolling”.

Are you saying youve never done this?

I honestly dont know what I did to you, but if thats how you want it, then we can just avoid each other.

I may have said that, within a larger reply, if you were actually trolling. As you were here, today. Trolling with nothing else to add at all.

However, it is extremely unlikely I ever replied to any point or post of yours without a detailed response and reasons included.

Please link anything that got under your skin in this manner, and I will see if there’s something that needs to be amended in my posting pattern in the future.

As I told you before the last time you got all snarky about my posting, I post in a provocative manner for a specific reason. Because it has the side-effect of making some lazy posters actually attempt to support their points, in some cases, instead of the usual “PvP good, carebears bad hur dur” nonsense we get way too much of in the forum. It also expands the discussion greatly, as you will note in virtually any thread I do it in.

I find your positions at least well written and reasonably sound.

I dont argue them because there’s at least enough solid there that it would be trolling to do so.

Its the jibes like that that you also are objecting to, that I had a problem with.

But now we are even, so its christmas truce and move on if that works for you too.

Nice,

You’re correct that one can simply use Zkill and Evemaps to see that destruction is way way way down from the glory days of EVE PVP in 2013-2014-2015. Trillions worth destroyed in Jita alone. in 2021 not even a single trillion has been destroyed in Jita in any given month. The june month was close with 930 Bill according to Zkill.

Awesome, I am an avid WOT player love the game . I should try EVE pvp just to see if I like it. But to be honest it seems boring because most of the pvp videos about EVE are just ganking miners…That seems really boring. My WOT stats below winrate has taken a dumb over the Holiday event., but I love WOT.

Yes, although keep in mind that 3rd-party apps generally only show part of the picture. However when you add CCP’s Monthly Economic Report (MER) to that, as well as to EVE Offline concurrent player numbers and other data, you get a fuller picture.

One of the reasons I post on these topics is that, even though EVE still looks relatively viable from a simple “oh hey there’s still 22k logins most of the time, not too bad” viewpoint, the underlying reality is not at all healthy.

EVE subscriptions are down to roughly 1/4 of what they were in 2014. (I can link the data sources for these if anyone needs, 500k subs in 2013-2014, roughly 135k subs now, but I’m not going to do the thinking for other people on Xmas day.)

EVE player numbers are now below where they were in 2016, a sharp dip back then which caused CCP in desperation to throw open the doors to F2P and their investors to put the company up for sale. Those low numbers in 2016 were still roughly 85% paid accounts though, whereas the even lower numbers of today include a much higher percentage of unpaid Alphas. And even those login numbers are being inflated by a constant stream of “log in for rewards!” events.

The MER data for the past few years has shown some pretty steep drop-offs in economic activity (which is the true lifeblood of EVE). While I expect EVE to stick around for another 5-10 years, I’d guess we’re close to a tipping point where all but the most invested, sunk-cost players are about to abandon ship and head for greener pastures.

That’s what makes it worth considering ways to revitalize some aspects of the game, no matter how badly it causes some stick-in-the-mud PvPers to panic.

My stats are actually inflated by the Holiday events, because for the past 3 years I mostly only play during holidays and events. In those cases, a lot of players are doing predictable things and trying to complete specific missions, so you know even before battle starts what 2/3 of the players will be doing and in which tanks.

Ganking miners is a very small portion of EVE PvP, although still a ‘valid’ one. If you want to get started, look at joining a large group that does some PvP and will help newbros at it, like Eve University and other starter PvP fleets.

Or try small cheap solo stuff, just google “eve starter guide solo PvP” and check pages like Solo PvP - EVE University Wiki to get an idea of the basics. Another excellent link is the Frigates guide here: http://evefrigates.blogspot.com/ (thank @Aisha_Katalen for the updated link).

While I point out that EVE PvP could use a lot of improvement, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty there to sink your teeth into as you check it out to see if it suits your fancy.

I would say my hesitancy to get into EVE pvp stems from that it just doesn’t seem interesting. Ive had friends that live out in null/low sec and what they describe is a boring slog of waiting hours to try and find a gank target or small scale PVP that is virtually dead in those sectors of space…

Not sure what happened but when I first tried EVE back in 2013 I had full intention of going to Low sec and joining my College buddies in what sounded like a cool PVP zone. Now it just sounds/looks depressing.

I need to try it for myself and experience it first hand. But no one is talking positive about it that I know personally.

I get that. I’ve got a similar experience but it’s also possible that my own tendencies simply steer me away from groups that enjoy PvP more. For a look at people who do enjoy some of the more engageable PvP (faction warfare), check the links in the previous post, and also search for FW posts like these (both the comments and the featured videos):

Thank you this has been helpful to get me started, much appreciated.

Is it that hard to believe people are being more careful and scouting their undock or gate before they make a move? What do you think is the reason for this slump in pvp?

Trust me it really is interesting, this does depend largely on perspective though, My perspective is that I live in an area where I’m outnumbered 50 to 1 so every time I travel for example I normally come across a gate camp or two which can be tricky to avoid.

The best thing for sure is to go join your college buddies, try not to see Eve as a game but more of an experience let’s say Eve is your own sci-fi movie where you are the star.

Now once you hook up with your buddies simply copy what they do, If they are clearing combat sites in pve then copy them, copy their ship fits and understand the reason why. You will get attacked eventually and an FC will come on comms and attempt to organise everyone to defend themselves. Try your best to do as the FC asks and save questions for after the battle is over.

Try to observe how certain ships behave, a ship may try to orbit you at high speed and put DPS on you, your goal is to try and expect this so perhaps flying a ship which extends the the range of a webifier might help…

PVP is very much about understanding the role of various ship types which are frequently used in PVP, If you learn and revise 10 ships and which ships counter them then you are in a better position to adapt and perhaps win against these ships when you see them on the battlefield.

You could also try to support your buddies pvp and fly ships which transfer shield, armour and cap to other ships in your fleet.

There really are 100s of different tactics you can learn and use.

Yet you’ve already proven you are a wildebeest

James was actually a pretty cool dude. I knew him btw. Its pretty obvious he bumped ya huh?

Not really bro or else I wouldn’t have asked LOL. I know you think you’re so cool with this passive aggressive never responding outright, but honestly bro it just makes me laugh.

Projecting there eh?

LOL, you really gonna use Chistmas? ROFL. And you got bullied into posting your WoT stats? Utter ROFL. And you think you’re winning by posting that?

You talk about reasons and stats alot, but never actually post them. Well except ones you make up. Interesting hm?

You hurt his feelings

That’s pretty much par for the course here. Rather then people calmly, rationally, discussing issues…correcting any errors…and so on, all you ever get is ’ my Eve PvP is the best thing since sliced bread and everyone else sucks '. Which doesn’t really help anyone at all even if it were true.

To be fair you’d be saying that too if you got a taste of it from our perspective.

I’m currently playing Generation Zero 2019 which is an FPS game. Set in Sweden 1980s you must battle with robots which seem to be trying to invade the world like terminator. Brilliant Pve gaming, the multiplayer is also PVE based with a group of 4 players taking down massive gargantuan robots.

I’m enjoying the missions and difficulty, the travelling and staying under the radar is also very cool. it is a pretty cool open world game and the map is massive. The guns and ammo are great with a very high level of detail for accuracy you can see when you’re hitting your mark. Great game.
