Ice Mining

Most ice was mined by bots. The public market station prices for ice products will reflect how much mining was bot performed in the past.

The devs probably also want to encourage resource wars, more players risking the hauling+defense of resources and that more players pay market trading tax and actually use taxed markets.

Many times things had been called bugs, but it was game design.

The problem is that yes, we can hunt for high sec ore competing with bot, but for fuel blocks we need enormous amount of HS ice or get Dark glitter, Glare Crust, Gelidus which is found only in lowsec/null and try to get enough ice without nomad rorq that will get ganked on sight. The ice products and even compressed ice are too much for hauling + the price of low/null ice went up by 20-50%.

Look… I don’t want to complain, i know I am complaining but this is not about frustration, it’s about playing 20 hours a day with 3-5 alts just to get some things done (as a miner/manufacturer, soon as a ratter too) Normal working people with family just don’t have that kind of time. I don’t mind changes I welcome them, but only changes that makes sense. I don’t like being guinea pig for ccp when they make changes that doesn’t work then say it works, only little bit different than intended and that they look into it, then 2 months passes and nothing changes.

I get it for compressed ore, hell even reactions from moons and some minerals, but ice would need to be half the volume it is now, to be worth hauled outside HS borders. Or ccp should give us a ice/ice products hauler that works similar as Jump freight just with lot more cargo for ice/ice products.

Look, all I want is for some fairness here in the spawning. My corps system BDV3-T hasn’t has an ice belt spawn in it AT ALL since this started. Yet when I pull The Agency and look at the belts in the are this one has yet to despawn AT ALL.

CCP fix this ffs!

IMO , if I have to play more than 2 hours per day to get stuff done then it’s not worth it, which is why I’m not subbed. RL is more important.

I see these points associated with ice and minerals in the game.

Way of procuring ice/minerals:

Can be mined
Can be purchased or sold via trading ( contracts, player exchanges )
Can be stolen

There is the usage:

What does one do with ice in the game?

There is the system load consideration for the developer:

Will it increase or maintain active player accounts and at the same time reduce associated server activities which took too much cpu/ram load in the developers eyes ? Developers will have looked at what ice/minerals are used with and what stuff it runs in the game and may have the intention to optimize server load and to affect those player ice/minerals related activities.

RL fraud:

There is the RL world fraud level, reducing bot activities associated with game materials ( bot mining ).

There is the desperation level:

How urgently does one need it ?

The team play level:

Will it encourage more team play or not in the game ?

A reduction in availability can have a “Gollum effect”,
" I need xyz, I don`t care how to get it!"
The “Gollum effect” often gets people to do something in a game or to value something in a game that did not have real value before.
Desperation/Competitiveness between players is a core value in PvP based games.

Just unsubbed. Really hate how CCP is handling this topic and other connected with the last big patch (no communication at all).
I’m willing subbing again when CCP announces/implements a good fix in November.

I’m wondering if the changes and chance to spawn in a system is also tied to the frequency that the system gets mined out. Maybe they pulled data from months and before the patch to see what systems were getting mined out the most often. So the spawn rates are now squed away from high sec and other systems and we have plex in low and null that spawn more consistently at least in systems that were also not getting mined out every day?

Right now the sand box has to much sand in it

Actually high-sec ice belts spawn like clock every 4 hours. The problem are ice belts in null/low that spawn randomly from idk 3 days up to 3-4 weeks. Out of 4 ice belts in our home constellation we get maybe 1 ice belt per week, sometimes not even that.

I can 100% contest this I have been in several high sec systems with no ice for days as well.

Even so all I’m trying to say is that the more a system has been mined in the past maybe the less frequent you will see ice spawn there.

I remember back in the day when people actually had corps and played with each other instead of having 20+ accounts.

Been watching multiple highsec ice systems for a few days, no spawns. Not clockwork.

I don’t know the details of the new ice spawns, but I do have a question:

Is this something for CCP to fix, or could you instead go to that system and ‘fix’ it yourself by mining out that belt?

I regularly mine ice when I play (haven’t done played in a few weeks due to other reasons), but to me it seems like the ice belts follow the system of relic site spawns, so it can happen that the few sites in the region get stuck in one system that’s untouched by all. Fantastic loot when you find it, but it requires moving around, which is what I didn’t have to do for ice mining before.

Obviously the lower spawn rates are a nerf, but I haven’t decided yet whether it’s bad for the game that ice miners now have to travel a bit, instead of always living in the same system.

Looking forward to figuring out a good method to get get my ice miners to belts in null next time I play again! Hopefully the nerfed supply means more value for the ice itself!

Yes, what you are saying is intended. But since there is no update, we don’t know if bug mentioned by Aurora was already fixed or not. Anyway, roaming ice seems to be CCP idea for this

@CCP_Aurora

Are there any updates in regards to this issue?

My System here in The Spire has only had the Ice belt spawn for 3 consecutive days 2 week after initial release and we have yet to get the ice belt re-spawn again however its been spawning around us a lot more. Some systems have had their Ice belt present everyday since the update.

I understand that you guys are still looking into the issue however a lot of corps and alliance here rely on ice to maintain their structures and caps running. and with belts not even spawning at all for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, its effecting everyone around us.

Can we please get a status update on this?

@CCP_Aurora At the moment, 5 out of 14 systems in Outer Ring has an ice anom. But only 2 out of 20 in Syndicate?!?!?

Been tracking Syndicate since Nov 3. The same 4 systems have had ice while, as stated above, none of the other 16 systems have spawned. What is the mechanic? Does the ice have to be mined out before it will spawn in other systems?
More detailed information would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that the ice belts in HS don’t last even 15-20 minutes from being spawned, can confirm that. Bots are mining them out in this short time. when ice belt spawn there are like 40-100 people in local within seconds to mine it out. Mostly see like 10-15 skiffs with orca and freighter mining out all belts around from downtime to downtime…

Where I am (Manatirid system) belts spawn 3 times and more per day have it checked but as I said they don’t last 15-20 min after being spawned. only lowsec or high-sec systems that you have to go thru lowsec to get to them last longer.

20 mins is alot. Most i have seen were mined out in less than 3-5 minutes. over 300 bots descending in orcas and skiffs. then they log out or move as fast as the belt is gone and come back later again for same thing.

Guess these systems are not used that much… saw at most 60-80 people at once in one belt here, half of that 100% not bots. Well it was just to answer those people why they almost never see a ice belt in hs.
