Ignored users on the forum

Can we get an improvement for ignore/block function for the forums?
@CCP_Lumi @CCP_Arcade @CCP_Convict @CCP_Troglodyte (sorry if I’m tagging wrong CCP people here, but I don’t really know which one of you deals with the forum features).

Current block system is completely fail and unsatisfactory. When I block a user, I still get a note in the form of ‘‘View 1 Hidden Reply’’ whenever they post somewhere. This defeats the purpose of blocking in my opinion. And – I should not be seeing threads created by blocked users at all. Why are they visible?

There are users on here who create multiple spam threads per day. I am okay with having to keep track and block each and every one of them. But when I’ve done that – when I have those users blocked, then I would like their threads completely vanish for me, i.e. not get listed for me anywhere on the site at all.

I doubt this is something that is hard to get done. The blocking system in-game, for example, is perfect. I block a character, and I never see anything they post in the chat channels, they can’t contact me, mail me, nothing. The possibilities for them to verbally interact with me have been completely erased. This is how it should be on the forums as well.

Did you put them on mute or ignore? Because in your settings you have two options (with their own feature set):

Muting someone just supresses their DMs, ignoring also hides messages and shows notifications from them less often.

I have no personal experience with either but if you have the people on one but not the other try putting them on both and see if that helps.

CCP doesn’t build this forum though, they can only use the features that the Discourse forum provides.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t see a possibility to simultaneously use both. There is a drop-down menu at character profile page, and from there you can select either ‘normal’, ‘muted’, or ‘ignored’ options. I would assume that ignore function will also suppress personal messages as it says ‘‘all their content will be hidden’’, but that’s not really a problem anyway. I am not receiving any personal messages from such users. Just would like to have an ignore/block function that actually disappears a user in terms of threads/posts. Other forums have been able to do it.

But alas, it is not to be over here.

This is how an ignored user’s threads still show up:

That’s all nice and well of the system to try to let me know I have ignored someone, but I wouldn’t call this an efficient ignore system when I can still see all their spam in the threads list.

No, they don’t build the forum themselves, but they are paying people to do it for them/provide the service. It’s within CCP’s power to ask for a more complete blocking feature on the site.

It’s just a request. I’ll still go about my day with things left the way they are, but the current system is hardly satisfactory.

Does not help. I ignored and muted this Big Bank lottery spam and I still get notified about every new post of theirs in NEW. It is just as useless of a feature as many other contemporary EVE features.

Well at least this specific one can’t be blamed on CCP as it is part of the Discourse forum engine… unless it doesn’t work because CCP did not set it properly or set it improperly.

:psyccp:

Seems indeed to be a “feature” of this crappy forum software. More #QualityCoding make the world a little worse every day.

There are some players that need a 3-6 month timeout.

They do. But unless their IP gets banned, that’s not gonna help, they’ll just make new accounts. Hell, the annoying SP (serial poster) over here hasn’t got a ban and he creates new accounts all the time. IP ban might solve it, but everyone knows how to use VPN these days. Easy ways to still get around that one. So, unless the forum has tools to actually block such users, I don’t see a solution to this.

I read through that and there actually seems to be a way to implement a more efficient blocking feature on Discourse, albeit you just have to do a bit of work yourself.
