I have never understood why anybody would close down an MMO server. Just decrease the number of employees to the bare minimum and limp along, paying the electricity bill. I think sometimes it is related to preserving the quality of the IP. Like, you cannot get away with having a bare-bones Star Wars MMO because it hurts the perception of the franchise. In Eve’s case, the franchise is the game, so I don’t understand what the motivation would be to ever stop collecting money from the eager subscribers.
