Im just saying that if i lost EVERYTHING including skill points, say the possibility of a complete reset of the game and everyone in it… or anything else that I lost my character, permaban, or hack account or something.
I don’t know if I could or would start over. I do love Eve and I would try after a time. But I’m not sure I could start from scratch. I tried making an alt but I didn’t have the patience to do it any more.
i’d like to point out that you can not lose SP. they don’t vanish and you can’t put them anywhere a d forget the spot. you have to willingly give them away. the real issue comes when people are mentally weak and give in, due to continuously blueballing them.
so, i guess, the actual issue is blueballing. and it’s not torture. torture is physical.
True, in not like someone walks up behind you stabs you in back of the head with an injector(or an ice cream scoop) and gives you a reverse matrix on things you spent along time to learn.
I’m just saying if I was gullible enough to give to the ransom leaving me all but crippled in EvE from where I am now, it would just be painful to try to build all that back up.

This is an incorrect oversimplification. There are restrictions on scams, we do not allow all and every scam. Some examples of what we may not tolerate:
Scams involving Character Transfers, mainly via the Character Bazaar where scamming is explicitly forbidden
Scams mimicking services provided by CCP while providing modified data via third party websites
Scams using exploits (fake or existing)
Scams that encourage the mark to purchase PLEX in order to acquire the ISK/Items
I would be extremely careful when it comes to “ransoming skill points”. While in certain, very special circumstances, it might be legit, there are so many other scenarios where this falls right into above mentioned category “purchase PLEX in order to acquire items”.
If you have been scammed in such a way, please contact Customer Support.
CCP won’t elaborate, because they aren’t going to allow griefing the excuse of ‘Oh but I didn’t know’ as an always out.
If you try the line of ‘But I didn’t encourage them to buy plex even though I had most of their assets already and was ransoming them back’, or any other kind of variant off that, and your victim happens to report it to CCP, expect to get hammered.
You might get away the first time, or the second, but that sort of pushing the line will catch up with you sooner or later.
Why would they not want to elaborate or define a clear line here. How can you toe the line if they say, “Scamming or ransoming SP is not allowed”.
The key here is that you can’t tell, ask, or encourage them to spend $. If you have a target in a position to scam, the idea to actually go and spend real cash to get out of said position lies all on them. No one puts that idea in their head but them. The scam or ransom is within the boundaries of Eve Online and should be alright.
Playing the villain is something that CCP uses for marketing. They get publicity from all sorts of news and reporting outlets about the open-sandbox, scamming, and harsh nature where a player can have it all and turn around to lose it all in the blink of an eye. CCP has very creative and intelligent people that play the game and enjoy exploring clever uses of mechanics, pushing boundaries, and treating the game like a sandbox.
I find extreme issue with CCP not being more clear on many topics, and find that it’s lazy moderation on their part as well as not knowing their game as well as the players.
So I challenge @CCP_Phantom to read this and respond in a manner that is not so cryptic.
My point is that when it comes to creative content, CCP isn’t even clear where we can walk! There’s been a number of times I’ve gotten replies like, “If you have to ask then don’t do it”. That’s a load of crap, especially in a “sandbox” where you’re allowed to be a villain.
So CCP Phantom basically said that CCP doesn’t condone scamming, but it’s allowed. So according to him, as long as I dont encourage, ask, tell, suggest, or telepathically communicate to him that he should spend $ so I can scam him… then I am ok. The problem with his dodgy response is that it’s okay until it’s not.
I have found myself in a position where I was doing something that was allowed, then slapped with a 2-week suspension with no warning or proper communication. I have found myself looking at the punishment of an unwritten rule that was taken out of context of another rule. No warning, communication, statement, or a simple “hey this isn’t okay. Cut it out”.
I can see how none of this is of any concern or worry for someone that doesn’t have an invested interest in emergent gameplay, but it’s all apart of eve and what makes this game great.
I don’t agree. Just because you don’t like ganking, scamming, ransoming, and probably anything else that breaks your internet code of honor doesn’t mean it’s “trolling”.
These are viable paths to enjoy the game for some and lots of people enjoy them. As a matter of fact you hear all the time about how people are drawn to eve because of its “darker” elements that aren’t available options in other MMOs.
Markus is a troll trying to bait people into responses, usually using one liners, or short posts. he’s being relatively subtile, but that doesn’t change the result.
The way I see it the you have it back to front or upside down.
But I can see where you might take that view honestly if you (as an emergent game player) really believed what you were saying, which I do concede you often might.
Personally the way I see it there is a lot (an awful lot) of gaming the system to try & influence CCP in favor of small (but loud) groups who want to dominate the game on their own terms that goes on in these forums, less than in the old ones so far but still…
And a lot of deliberate trolling under the guise of “role play”
I usually try to just ignore it but occasionally it’s just a little to obvious & I just can’t help myself & just have to point it out
So from my perspective, I was the one who just got baited into a response there
I may not be doing all of those things, but they are very important aspects of Eve. I see Phantom mentioning four things that aren’t allowed and I find those four things rather reasonable limitations.
Extracted SP are a problem, because of the rare circumstances ransoming for them makes sense: if the mark has items or Isk, why not take these instead? If he doesn’t, how is he supposed to extract SP?
There are possible situation where it would make sense: he has enough Isk left for four extractors and you make him buy and use those and give them to you. That’s fine, of course. If you already have all his money, what do you think will happen?
That’s not ok, either (assuming it’s exactly as you said).
It seems the ban didn’t enforce the message enough about what you can and can’t do.
CCP has just given fair warning to everyone considering this, and that’s that you are already close to the line.
So how about NOT blaming CCP just because you’re a sadistic scumbag that obviously gets a kick out of others misery. Emergent gameplay my arse, you’re just a sick individual out to ruin someone elses game regardless of what it takes or the end result.
Your ban wasn’t long enough, it should have been permanent.
hm. i don’t troll people’s egos into responding. ego trippers be damned. from my pov baiting people into back and forthing should be a bannable offense, because it can, has been and will be used to deliberately derail and destroy any discussions, because devs (at least used to) not outright ban people who repeatedly engaged in that activity, but instead just locked threads.
You’re smart; that’s obvious. i agree with you that there is a loud minority of people on the forums, who now even have started bringing the alts back out. this time, though, they won’t get away with it.
See this guy, for example. i’ve made a ticket about this thread in the first days it started, because i knew it’ll attract those who should point at themselves instead. At BOTH sides of the discussion! We should collectively make use of the flagging system to raise the standards around here. that’ll solve a lot of problems at the click of a button.
