Let's throw an EVE fan party IN THE BIRTHPLACE OF TECHNO MUSIC and mix things up with a player bounty hunter system! Toss ONE of your votes in favor of JOILOVE (JOY LOVE) joining CSM 21! Balance. Growth. $$ Value

FIRST THING’S FIRST. BEFORE WE GET TO MY EVE STORY, LET’S PLAN TO PARTY - Let me say up front I am a Detroit House Head and Techno fan. I’m from the D and it is known as the birthplace of techno music (sorry Germany/London I got receipts) - Discovering Detroit’s Techno Roots | Visit Detroit. As a member of the CSM 21, I want to push to bring an EVE fan summer event to the D (preferably) during the WORLD’S LARGEST INTERNATIONAL TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL because it will be FUN! And fun is priority one. Why else would we play EVE?

CLICK HERE 4 A LITTLE SET FROM MY FRIEND BRUCE BAILEY TO LISTEN TO WHILE YOU SKIM MY EVE STORY…

Started playing in 2015 after my son one day asked me for an increase in his allowance so he could play EVE. Like any responsible parent, I checked out the game to make sure it was appropriate for a kid, denied his request to increase his allowance and started playing myself!
I been rocking space pixels for more than 10 years now. First, I was target practice as a noob in Pandemic Horde with my alt Baves. I moved him out and created my own corp. Sunrunner Galaxy Hauling Services for public contract hauling/explorer and made my main Joilove (pronounced JOY LOVE) into a mining/pvp/industry toon at EVE University to learn the game better (proud grad btw). I’ve mapped worm holes, placed rescue crates and helped rescue stranded pilots as a member of Signal Cartel (Baves). And I’ve flown with the Angel’s low sec insurgency ballers in Heretic Army (Joi).

I made my first billion isk mining rocks in Amar space with Eve Uni and my second billion hauling public contracts out of Jita. Hauling profits and interest died for me when the Trig invasion cut the short high sec route between Jita and Amar. I created a third alt Taki Namaste to be my dedicated market trader/industry toon. All three can fly freighters/blockade runners and deep space transports very well. Two can use jump freighters. One can rock dreadnoughts. I now do all of my space adventuring as a member of another null sec veteran corporation called The Graduates [TGRAD] in the Initiative Alliance [INIT]. Fun times!

Along the way, I’ve lost enough ships, pvp fights and isk to know a thing or two about playing EVE. I’ve ganked as an insurgency pirate and been ganked hauling public contracts in high/low/null space. I’ve saved a few freighters from being ganked back in the day as a member of the High Sec Milita (a loose coalition of do gooder pvp pilots) in Uedama, lost a fair number there as well, and feel like I’ve been to every system, wormhole and monument in EVE (I haven’t).

But even after 12 years in the game, raising a family with a loving wife and enjoying a wonderful career in real life there’s one thing I know for sure - you can meet good people from all over the world playing EVE. Time marches on for everyone playing - graduations, marriages, jobs, careers, kids all get mixed in with the adventures playing EVE. And even players you don’t meet in person, you share their successes, milestones and challenges both in game and in real life.

These relationships are a wonderful bonus we get from playing EVE. Learning how to balance both enjoying playing the game and enjoying real life is a blessing and treasure we can cherish. We’ve got to “Get the Balance Right” as the old song by Depeche Mode says… https://youtu.be/bMbjHmLEUl0?si=ljrw2QuEQkjbz4lj

MY AREAS OF EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE INCLUDE:

  • Small gang pvp - null sec more than low but proficient in both
  • Exploration - pvp & pvp avoidance
  • Public Contract Hauling - making profit, avoiding scam contracts, ducking gankers
  • Deathless Circle/Mercenary Dens
  • Pirate Insurgencies - Angel
  • Mining
  • Zarzakh - I love that place and space!
  • Subcap industry/fitting
  • ECM warfare
  • Small gang fc leadership/tactics
  • Incursions
  • EVE VANGUARD

MY OUTLINE OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE ON THE TOPICS BELOW:

  • Factional Warfare - I enjoy disrupting empire space as an ANGEL PIRATE INSURGENCY PILOT. Beyond that fw is not my jam, but I do enjoy random pvp there. Even with the recent changes, we need stronger penalties for awoxxing
    • Unstructured PvP - If we can get enough player support, I will suggest creating a player v player bounty contract system for kill rights. My idea - a kill right allows the victim to place a bounty on the offender who would then be a target for bounty hunters; bounty hunting would be a trainable skill achievable after reaching security/criminal connection skill III.
      • The bounty hunter skill would allow the hunter pilot to access the bounty board, use an agent locater, activate bounties and soften bounty hunter skill points losses from failures.
      • Both hunter and target will be at risk for LOSING random skill points upon failure in a pvp bounty activated fight equal to the bounty reward. Big risks deserve big rewards/losses for criminals and bounty hunters alike. 1 isk bounty = 1 skill point loss. A million isk bounty = 1 million lost skill points. A successful bounty kill gives the reward but also causes the hunter to incur a faction standing loss by the target’s npc corp. A bounty contract target who survives the attempt gets to keep his/her skill points and lives to fight another day.
      • Bounty contracts do not expire but they can be cancelled by the issuer with a 24 hour cool down (targets might want to reach out to the contract holder and see if they can work out a deal to cancel the contract).
      • Bounty contracts are not transferable, do not expire, cannot be shared in a group, can only be activated by a pilot with the bounty hunting skill and can be activated anywhere. Bounty contract activated fights are treated as a duel.
      • Bounty contracts are NOT cumulative - one contract per kill right - but a target may have multiple bounty hunter contracts placed on them from multiple players who they have attacked and earned a kill right.
  • Ships, gameplay, and the HUD - I have no complaints and am looking forward to new HUD
  • Industry and markets - many parts too complex, should consider simplifying some areas. A friend of mine co-developed this interesting third-party tool called EVE Market Watch that lets people track markets at different trade hubs.
  • Sovereignty management and logistics - from a longtime corp member perspective, things seem well
  • Highsec and the new-player experience - love the revamps to the new player experience
  • The connection between EVE Online and EVE Vanguard - seems like a perfect opportunity to let player characters interact more fully with each other

HERE’S WHY I AM RUNNING FOR CSM 21 AND WHY YOU SHOULD SPEND ONE OF YOUR VOTES FOR JOILOVE (JOY LOVE) SUNRUNNER…

I am running for a seat on CSM 21 because I understand how playing EVE can span so much of our life over the years. Some people call EVE a Time Vampire that sucks away the days/weeks/years of our lives. That can happen. We need a CSM representative focused on honoring our EVE playtime with our real-life living time. It’s a game. At the end of the day, a game is supposed to be fun and sometimes we forget that fun part, turn EVE into a job and burn out. Sometimes when the game becomes a grind or a job, playing can have a negative impact on our lives and well-being but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Relationships, marriage, kids, jobs, careers and EVE can all be managed well. Take it from a player who became a husband, father and grandfather who built a life and career all while enjoying EVE - balance can enhance our lives and player base. Let’s expand to the next generation, bring back old players and build more lasting relationships that span the globe.

I’m running to bring more JOY and LOVE to our lives playing EVE by focusing on policy improvements in three areas:

  1. GROWTH - Growing the EVE player base with hype, connection, adventure and cost value

  2. BALANCE - Increasing outreach to current players to improve the play/life balance by developing and sharing strategies/resources to succeed in both

  3. COMMUNITY - Developing policies/strategies/tools/events that foster a greater sense of community in-game and in real life – making real friendships and lasting connections easier across race, language and culture; the common ground is EVE

That’s it. These three things are the lens I will use when evaluating proposed changes to the game. They are also the areas I will push with management to make improvements. I will also advocate for getting a fan event in DETROIT - the birthplace of techno and home to house music - and advocating for a player v player bounty contract system for kill rights if we can get enough player support for the idea.

Plenty of really SMART people are running who can nerd out on stats, game mechanics, damage per second, etc.

Let’s have one CSM representative with Joilove (joy love) Sunrunner that is focused on cultivating the play/life balance so we can all live long and prosper in and out of game.

May you experience more love, joy, peace and prosperity in your life!

Spend ONE of your VOTES for JOILOVE SUNRUNNER for CSM 21 AND HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FOR IT…

  • A NEW PLACE TO PARTY! As a Detroit House/Techno Music fan, I will advocate for bringing an EVE fan event to Detroit - the birthplace of techno music - during the annual international techno fest: Discovering Detroit’s Techno Roots | Visit Detroit

  • A Representative focused on listening to your ideas and helping come up with ways to get the play/life balance right

  • Pushing for new ways for players to connect to each other

  • Develop tools for players to be able to share real life strategies for managing life

  • Look for ways to grow the player base

  • More PARTIES and Gatherings should be on the agenda

  • Work to find ways to add value for the coin spent playing EVE

  • Remain open for really cool ideas around play/life balance

  • Make FUN a priority

  • Advocating for a player v player bounty hunting system

Joilove Sunrunner, how would you bring proving grounds back? Proving grounds would be a source of destruction and content for those who don’t have the time to go about roaming or large fleet fights

Hi and thank you for your question. You’re right about proving grounds providing quick and easy content. Since the CSM council can only advise and not mandate anything, I’d advocate for bringing proving grounds back if there was enough interest in doing so. Also, I view everything through the lens of my top three issues - Growth; expanding the player base (bringing back proving grounds might bring old players back), Balance; increasing outreach to improve the play/life balance (proving grounds might do that by giving people a quick content bump without it being a time sink to enjoy) and third Community; how do we foster a greater sense of community (bringing proving grounds back might be a great way to have an elite group of players come together). I think I can make an argument for bringing proving grounds back with those three issues in mind. How that stacks up against the negatives from the corporate bosses point of view will have to be discovered.
