I am Limited Liability, and I have been playing the game for 16 years now.
I will say from the get-go, I am a bit of an unorthodox candidate, BUT I think I have something different to offer the Council over the 17th guy talking about small iterations and community feedback.
I run one of the largest trading alliances in the game (The Organisation of Skill Extracting Corporations) and I am also an economist by training - But I will freely admit that someone like the OZ is going to be more on top of the markets within eve.
I am a (somewhat) competent PVPer and fly with Barcode on my PVP alt - but a candidate like Itaer is a better advocate for small gang balance and ideas.
I am also a wormholer (BTW), but I cry if someone doesn’t scan the chain for me.
So, what I can offer is two things: more effective outreach and more effective monetization (hold your boos for now)
Promotion
I want to use this platform to advocate for reaching potential new players in a way that gives them a realistic idea of what this game is about.
The current way that EVE is sold to potential new players is through impressive visual trailers, (and don’t get me wrong, they look awesome) HOWEVER I don’t believe they give the modern dopamine-addicted gamer a real understanding of what the game can (and cannot) offer. So maybe we shouldn’t be surprised when they don’t stick around long enough to see how good it really can be.
But I think there is a better way
I have produced several videos that have reached millions of viewers that weren’t already players of the game. - https://youtu.be/nrW6p5ns8K8?si=5e4F6TXC6iDRo6TU
I have also assisted several other creators in producing similar content - https://youtu.be/CrH6jyZ5j7g?si=ZOg-rCj-TAhuvjmd and https://youtu.be/BCSeISYcoyI?si=dBzkUsAHfNkGvwZh
I know these videos have been effective at brining in new players and (actually retaining them) because I have flown with dozens of people who have told me they got into the game because of this content.
So what has this got to do with CSM? – I would love to work directly with CCP to make sure more of these videos get made either in house or through independent creators. The current EVE partnership program is a great foundation, however someone like Loru (as an example) only really appeals to people who are already playing the game.
Imagine a monthly “Tales of EVE” production aimed at non players talking about the stories that this game has made possible.
Monetization
Over the past 2 years, many players have been chasing New Eden Store sales to the exception of all else. CCP have acknowledged that this is an unhealthy situation, but they have put themselves in an understandably difficult situation. Large parts of the in-game skillpoint economy have shaped themselve around these sales. These sales are not all bad; they bring in a significant amount of investment from players. But we need to find a way to encourage this spend in a healthy way.
CCP needs to be able to effectively monetize their game, and even though I know it will not win me any votes, I also acknowledge that as a company they should be investing into new games as well.
I want to play this game for a long time so I want the company to have a consitent and reliable source of income to keep the lights on and to make new content possible.
The game is 20 years old now and if someone can pay a bit of cash to catch up with the general player base that is not a bad thing. What has been a problem though, is that a lot of the offers that can help new players catch up, can also be endlessly farmed by veteran players to pull even further ahead.
I think the fix for this is simple, before launching a new sale or promotional pack, run it by someone to see how they would take advantage of that offer, and then make adjustments to reduce that opportunity. I am volunteering to be that person.
This can be a win-win. Keeping a long-term subscriber who is happy to pay their sub an enjoy the game is going to be more valuable to the company and the community than feeding rusted on urchins (like me) who have just amassed millions of PLEX.
Thankyou for your attention on this matter.
Edit - Clarified my concerns with the current meta chasing NES sales.
