Liz Lizardbreath for CSM 14

Hello Dracvlad;

Q: What do you think about and what do you want to suggest in terms of bumping and how it is used in hisec?

A: I am not a fan of bumping in it’s current form, but I understand the need for the mechanic. In it’s current form it is horrible to not be able to really fight back. I personally would love to see a countermeasure that could be utilized; or even some kind of countdown toggle that would need to be switched on and have it have a cool down to stop the bump at some point; I’d even be happy with a suspect flag at this point that could then be built upon. We hear all the “talk”, blaming people of being CareBears, but in reality most of us would gladly fight back when and where we could.

Q: All the major war dec alliances and corps TZ tank. Therefore we need to make the structure in which the war HQ is in to be vulnerable in the TZ of the defender. Then we can turn carebears into carebears with teeth. What is your opinion of this?

A: I’ve always had to alarm clock for timers and that’s not a bad thing, unless it becomes a driving force of making people not want to log in or participate. I’m glad that the HQ’s and changes have occurred, but in my opinion they still need some additional work to get closer to a system that allows people to truly fight back. You see when I went to Eve Vegas 2018 and went to the panels I truly thought we were going to see additional changes to the HQ’s so that defenders might have a chance or even the satisfaction of destroying them.

Thank you for taking the time to chat,
Liz

Hi, thanks for the answers, appreciate it. Only one issue is that the suspect flag could only work if applied after a certain number of bumps and CCP made sure that no indy ships could go suspect for bumps, otherwise you create a mechanic that can be gamed to rather devastating effect.

I have suggested that all freighters could fit a BS MWD to enable them to get into warp fast and when being bumped they can pulse it and warp out if the bumper is not on the ball.

Jin’taan’s suggestion was actually rather good in that it was a specific structure. I certainly wanted something doable for small corps so they would have a go at it.

Hello Dracvlad;

No thank you for the questions. I understand the suspect flag issue, it would need to be refined. Going to spitball here for a second; I am wondering if in the safety settings if they could put a fourth setting to allow for the bumping even that way you’d have to declare your intentions? Flip safety, go suspect, bump, flip the safety off and have 2 minute cool down to be able to reactivate it. If you can’t get the kill say with in 5 minutes & don’t flip the safety off then Concorde can blow you up. (Hey worth a shot, if we can get someone to reimagine a mechanic that could be utilized).

The attackers already have the advantage of knowing who they are going to choose, most have their perches, and bookmarks already set up. So the defenders are at a disadvantage in most scenarios & not everyone wants to have to have a 2nd account just for tugging duty when it’s needed. Even though I do not mind escorting & tugging, but then again it’s not alliance wide either so may be that is another thing in addition to alliance bookmarks, please CCP and T2 Salvage drones, pretty, pretty please.

I am looking at anything that can stop people being able to be bumped for hours, and I think even five minutes might be too long. That is my first port of call and very important to hisec players.

But another part of this is to revitalise freighter ganking and AG play, which is very stale due to all the advantages that freighter gankers have due to bumping. It does enable them to pick who and when and they can be really lazy about it. So anything that forces them to be active in fleet and moving around to gank will make the play much better. That is what I am really looking at in terms of changing this gameplay.

I want more interaction than that out of my personal game play. I’ve heard the tales of old, where the freighter pilots use to auto pilot over night to get to their destinations for their play time during the next day. They’d turn up their speakers and just go to sleep. I can’t imagine doing that anymore. Even when I am flying something cheap & fast I don’t autopilot.

Then again I won’t go into a Corp if they don’t have friendly fire set to legal either. I do believe that there could be a middle ground that could be found to make industrials happier and challenging enough to still keep the bumpers happy.

I think it would be easier for programing to have a manually operated button/method where the freighter pilot could activate the second he starts getting bumped (heck even before) that starts a timer that at the end, if the ship is not warp scrambled/disrupted, warps to the original warp target (destination). Make the timer something along the lines of 7-10 minutes, but could have CCP adjust after trial. Even if a second or third pilot starts bumping, the original countdown is used. Have this effect only available within 15-20 km of a gate, so that belt bumping and other areas aren’t effected. Lore wise, this new ability reflects CONCORD’s desire to keep the shipping lanes free of congestion around the gates for safety reasons.

This would still allow for organized gankers to have their ready fleets travel and arrive, especially if you allow for 10+ minutes of bumping, but prevents the bumping for 30+ minutes for a gank fleet to organize or having the bumper merely be entertaining themselves.

The best ways to stop bumping are:

a) fit guns
b) fit quick-align modules
c) don’t autopilot
d) follow the Code

The more you know! <3

I’d love to see something either added or adjusted so that people could fight back. I keep hearing from all kinds of people “I’ve left the game until I see that we have something/anything, so that I can fight back” and/or “I am so sick of x, y, & z, why can’t we have a way to not just be a piñata”.

I love being called a CareBear (sarcasm) just for living and working out of a certain area. The way some of us are talked about you’d think we were all the same. So many have this misconception that everyone in High are afraid of living elsewhere, where for a lot of us it’s just a matter of convenience.

The vast majority of people I talk to who do any kind of industrial work, explore, &/or mission express how they are thought of in a negative light. Why though?

Stop telling people to play the game your way, there are so many ways to play and so many styles that have or are being killed off. So yes, we are all going to have to adapt for somethings, but make sure you are thinking long term and are not being shortsighted.

I don’t mind actual good PvP in the least but that doesn’t mean I want to do that 24/7 either and this is a sentiment I hear every damn day by so many current and former players. Please bring us a good fight, you know the ones where it’s actually a matter of true skill and not just overwhelming odds or the ha, ha’s we just ganked a defenseless or semi-defenseless ship.

There is no best way because;

a) Not all ships can
b) Some ships even with them are slow
c) Never, ever autopilot
d) Why should I or We, when You and They don’t?

The more you study, research, and learn, the better value you can bring to the table and the community. :wink:

Paranoia? Like really, almost everyone I know is fine with participating the industrial or collecting side of the game. Heck, even the goons, the (former?) hard-asses of Eve, have reinvented themselves as an industrial powerhouse the last years. No one, aside from perhaps a few alpha male types virtue signalling their toughness, cares about your building and collecting, and the smart ones want you as allies or at least trading partners as this game was designed to be run.

Any friction arises when these hoarders/builders/carebears start calling for more safety and the rules of the game rewritten, and for the other guy’s game to be made harder either out of self-interest, or cluelessness. Hypocrisy is a classic carebear trait, and begging CCP to change the game so they are less open to interactions, while preserving their ability to influence the greater economy is standard. I’m all for having an industrial point-of-view on the CSM (there are some, but could be more), but not some true carebear who thinks Eve can function with everyone safe and immune to each other.

Most of the current problems in the game have resulted from either CCP acquiescing to the bleating of the carebears playing the wrong game, or bribing the other players with excess safety and wealth to participate in certain activities. We don’t need more of that.

Players are responsible for defending their ships. Aside from a few edge cases, all ships are effectively invulnerable if the pilot is paying any attention. Jump Freighters have been made immune to attack with tethers. Ratters have an infallible proximity detector in local. CONCORD imposes a significant cost in highsec that makes any sanely fit and loaded ship unprofitable to attack. Upwell structures are incredible tedius, have damage caps, and the vulnerability TZ is completely under the control of the defender. The danger bar is so low now, content is drying up and people are leaving the game.

Eve isn’t only about good fights - if you want those you can go get them. It’s about competing with the other players for power and resources. In fact, it’s primarily about that. You are engaging in PvP with almost everything you do so why should people only be able to interact with you on your terms?

Well, enough ranting. Respond to that as you want and I’ll leave you the last word as this is your campaign thread. But I will ask you a question about… Incursions and Invasions. Do yo have any thoughts about group PvP like Incursions or Invasion in highsec? How do you feel about how the transition from Incursions to Invasions is going? Sansha Incursions have currently been cut in frequency to 1/3 before the latest expansion. Do you think that is fine, or should they be either restored, or deleted completely?
