Will any data given be a true reflection of the number of players? rather cynical of CCP to run a skill point bonus during the blackout, I am sure many still logged in just to get the skill points so at least undocking and killing some NPC’s which will show as more than just logging to see whats going on.
So… What was the point?
Not just because of Cynos. The Proteus got nerved but Loki is on top of the meta. Or if thats too expensive just bring a bomber fleet.
Rorqs got ultra nerved with the BO since pulling drones doesn’t do anything when the booshers are already on grid or the bombs already flying. Also any ratting Battleship or smaller just a free target with no challange.
The obvious counter for big groups would be to condense even more so all gates can be camped 24/7 - thank god this nonsense ended before it came to that or content would have really been dead.
Finally some nullsec whining - great.
You sound exactly like carebears in hisec when there is a hulkagedon or the like - a period where I cant play my favorite game.
Live with it or quit - we have to.
Hope they make blackout permanent.
Don’t Do It Again
THOR save this island.
i come back for action …
CCP has said in the past they didnt like the huge areas of space alliances controlled due to the little guy never getting a chance to make their own claim in null. Guess the question is, has the reach of alliances contracted enough already with jump timers or is there room for more contraction?
Another question would be, if blackout did cause contraction of alliance territory, is that really a bad thing? Would that not open up more Null space to smaller entities who would bring more content?
So many questions, no data, we are just guessing in the dark.
Of the two, the second is the better idea. Not because it preserves local, but because it’s active.
It will always be better to set up things so ‘players want X, they do Y’, rather than just ‘X is how it is’. For example: players want the best ratting or mining anomalies, they have to invest in an IHUB upgrade.[1] It also opens up counter-play options.
Let’s turn it around: Assume Blackout is the ‘default’ condition of null[2]. CONCORD doesn’t provide those services there. But players can put down a structure, or a service module in an existing class of structure, that provides it. Other players then get a few options: blow up the structure. Maybe hack the structure, either with an entosis link or some other module designed to bring the hacking mini-game into more prominence[3].
Basic success: you shut down local.
Basic failure: you don’t.
Critical success: you get the option to just make you, or your group, not show on local in that system for 30m, or an hour, or something. You still get all the perks of local, but nobody sees you coming/going in that system.
Critical failure: you shut off local… for you. You won’t even know you failed. It’ll look like success, after all.
Active gameplay offers counterplay. The biggest problem w/cloaks right now is: there’s no counterplay. Sure, you can decloak someone… if you can get inside 2km of their ship. But if you weren’t there when they cloaked? Perfect stealth, uncounterable. We lack things like active sonar, or other tools to (even briefly) expose cloakers.
1 This is not saying players having the best anomalies is necessarily a good idea, only that it’s better to make them do something to get them, rather than just giving those anoms to them.
2 Go farther: gates function, because they’re paired, but without the Communications Arrays (or whatever), the fluid routers don’t work. What does that do?
- No chat channels at all. Maybe preserve fleet chat for ships on-grid, but not beyond that, because there’s no FTL communications.
- No cloning. The same QE He-4 used for Local is used to transmit your head to your next clone. Jumpclones would only work within the same structure, and if you die… looks like it’s time to go back to ‘did I update my clone?’ in Nullsec.
3 Really, hacking has so much potential in an environment where everything’s controlled by computers. Hack ACLs. Get yourself temporary docking rights in enemy citadels. Be really baller and turn off tethering. Get access to jump gates, or bypass the toll.
Unsubbing my main and 49 alts.
The blackout should have stayed. The free intel given by local should have never been there in the first place. Hugely disappointing.
No, my friend, you are wrong. Many left because they were sick of low energy ADHD Reddit sloths wanted to get their PVP fix without working for it. CCP listened, those of us who are not complete cucks realised that it would take us using our financial power to bring CCP to heel.
CCP came to heel.
All those crying about the financial disaster that “Chaos” has been being “good for the game” are quite frankly not who CCP should be listening too. They are true millenials, they do not care for anything but their gratification, and will destroy EVERYTHING they touch to get it.
Ahhhhhhhhh the “I want my game to satisfy my needs and screw everyone else” narcissism of the post millenials.
Can I have your stuff?
Seems like ‘millenials’ is the word of the day.
I for one am sad to see blackout go. No more solo hunting in the shadows.
However on the plus side i can now make 3x as much isk.
Swings and roundabouts.
I’m sure Vily, Sapporo, and Piggles will be crushed without you. You’ve made such a difference in their lives over the last six months.
really sad about the the end of blackout… =/
I’m personally optimistic about it coming back in a more dynamic form, with play/counterplay options. It was, after all, just an initial test.
Which basically translates to “will only affect non-megablobs”. If there’s “play/counterplay” it can pretty much be bruteforced in Eve. Leveling playing fields isn’t going to happen if it’s not pretty hard-coded to do exactly that.
I spend and have spent an inordinate length of time cloaked in this game. I think the ability to use a module to uncloak ships is something which is missing. There needs to be some form of Booster type module which decloaks/makes lockable a cloaked ship/some other useful variant, at the expense of say 400% sig increase for any other ship in boost range. Fits as per any boosting ship. Could even have an optimal and fall off range of effect, passive counter modules heavy in cpu or power.
Good to see someone in Null sec using cash. After all someone has to pay for the game.
pvp players will moan about the end of the blackout but contrary to popular belief pvp is not the be all and end all of eve. there is so so many industrialists that pvp as well as mine/rat/explore/build etc. but lets face it they killing it off without admitting it has seriously affected the subscription many members pay for with real money. this is what pays the bills along with real money plex purchases. along with a lot more players that I have spoke to we are not gonna re sub for a while to see if they gonna do it again. if they do then I will quit permanently cos wormhole space is wormhole space not 0-0 as well for wormhole space.
