Local Comms Blackout - Discussion Thread

in a wormhole you can partial control the incoming. If you have actinve players in time zones. First need to never open your static exit if do not plan to get something in or out. Second need to scan every new signature and is there is a wormhole try to close it before someone from the other end scan it.
If you can do those then you can do anything you want.
but in 0.0 there are gates and everyone can travel to your system and cloack there without noone see him

Exactly. There are gates which don’t move from which almost the entirety of your threats will come from day after day after day. It’s trivial to post scouts on gates both in system and nearby systems. In wormholes we get only in system scouts.

Well, there’s differences that play a role in how effective a tool d-scan is.

In J-space, they have to probe you down. Combat probes for the ship, or core probes for the sig, they still have to drop probes, so you can see them, and you know something’s up. In null? They can just light a covert cyno in a safe, bridge in 50 bombers[1], and shotgun anomalies. No probes needed. Someone finds something, they get close, have everyone warp to them, then decloak and tackle. Now there’s 50 bombers lobbing torps, and d-scan was useless.

The other problem is signal-to-noise. J-space, you tend to know who’s on and active in your hole, and what they’re flying. In null… what, you’re gonna dock up every time some guy in your alliance crosses within 14au of the anom you’re in, and you see his Taranis on d-scan? That reduces how effective d-scan is, too. Gonna be interesting to see if people start hunting in VNIs, just because everyone ignores them on d-scan.

  1. And really, that, not the gates, is where the majority of the actual threats will be coming from. Gates will be watched and boson’d. Setting up Falcons or Rapiers for blops-work will be the real killer. You set them up, the cyno alt never actually goes into the anoms, so nobody knows to look for his kill, and just… bypass gates entirely. Fatigue reduction means the whole blops group can bounce from cyno camper to cyno camper.

Not true at all. You don’t have to probe down Jspace people sat in anoms.

Maybe, just maybe, having 1000 people all living in one system becomes a disadvantage to those who want to rat in peace. So what? there are a myriad of solutions.

Adapt or die

Most of the combat and mining sites in j-space are not ā€˜Cosmic Anomalies’. They’re Cosmic Signatures, which you absolutely do have to probe down.

CCP can you hurry up and announce the Intel citadels please thanks

Eh. Your not wrong there. But that’s part of having scouts keeping tabs on neut traffic. Gotta make something that’s approximately local cause CONCORD can’t hold anyone’s hand for the duration.

Also like that you mention random ships showing up on dscan then needing to dock. There was a guy arguing with me a couple days ago about how blackout won’t effect bots cause dscan then pointed out that same fact like it supported his argument. Which of course made me ecstatic cause it without a doubt proves that dscan is completely worthless to bots cause it doesn’t show affiliation or pilot names. So bots will havta dock up 12 times an hour.

Well I’d wager 80-95% of mining in Jspace is done in moon belts. Least me and my Alliance haven’t touched an ore anom in a long time.

Oh and the other dude is right. Ore anoms don’t need to be scanned. Just gas and relics.

Bots will do what good players should do when something spooky appears on D-scan: Align out.

Something appear on grid? Instawarp off.

Ive just saved the botters and awful ratters a bit of isk there.

REVOLUTIONARY IDEAS YEARS IN THE PLOTTING

You could even say… A decade of planning at this point

They changed that? Well, TIL. And TIDecided that change sounds stupid.

I guess? It’s been a thing at least since I started in wormholes 5 ish years ago.

Well Mr Personality I never said it was ineffective , where did I say that . What I have made a bigger point is with all that wonderful technology how would it be so hard to have a friend or foe recognition system.

thats what it looks like now…

No, actually they are mostly anoms. The only times they are mostly signatures is when the hole has been farmed.

This has got to be one of the most stupid things I’ve seen n these forums and i’ve been around for quite a few years so seen a lot of dumb shite here…

Handing Nul to mega groups like Goons is a mistake. All this change is likely to do is force more Nul residents into groups like Goons - That long term can’t be good for the game…

Nothing is going to show up on dscan because people will be flying covops to tackle.

Anyway the point is more when does the bot decide to go back to the site? Without local there’s no way for it to know if it’s safe to return. It’s going to reduce the profitability and reliability of botting no matter what.

Indeed.

Anyone who takes a top-level view of the game realizes that the industrial side of things is very important. In terms of player-hours, players probably spend way more time gathering and building things than engaging in direct ship combat with each other. The thing is, the major problems facing Eve today are directly related to overproduction and a lack of destruction, not that doing industry or building things is too hard.

These crocodiles tears about how the game is going to die if creating wealth is made more competitive are just that. There is no danger we are going to run out of stuff. Enough stuff has been created in the last couple years to meet the next five or ten years at current rates of explosion. In fact, all this overproduction seems to have been pushing out industrial-minded players out of the game over the last few years whose efforts have been devalued and who can’t compete with the efficiency nullsec has been creating stuff. Changing things and making space for hungry new entrants is only a good thing. Maybe this won’t do that, but suggesting CCP is wrong for trying is silly.

Adversity creates opportunity and there is no shortage of things in New Eden right now. There is plenty of room for CCP to experiment with creating more gameplay.

Definitely wasn’t like that when I lived in j-space in 2009-10. Had to scan down everything.
