In what way is saying it’s your fault for losing your queen in chess me saying you shouldn’t play the game at all?

I have made an effort to respond calmly and respectfully to you while also keeping this thread on topic.

Look, if someone really (really) wants to gank you - there’s nothing you can do about it except stay docked up. Having more EHP (buffer) simply lessens the likelihood of this because they have to bring more ships (and presumably players) to bear.

Nerfing the EHP on Marauders basically lowers the bar for the attackers.

Nope, not the case at all. Just merely pointing out that if someone absolutely, positively wants to see your Marauder in a wreck - this change makes it a heck of a lot easier to achieve.

Sure, one guy and his friends/alts decide you make a good target.

But that’s why i pointed out not making yourself a target. You can also use your own friends or alts to defend yourself.

You are no easier to gank than you were before the buff and again this balance had to take into account the entire game not just one type of interaction in one area of space

You still haven’t explained how these are in any way the same thing.

This was one option i gave to reduce the chance of getting caught on a gate. And you haven’t explained how it’s not viable.

You honestly just seem like you want to argue for the sake of it.

So what part of asking a friend to scout for you, or logging in an alt, or hopping in a shuttle/corvette to check the gate is word salad or hard for you to understand or is BS?

Claiming that you can always ask for something is not the same thing as claiming that it’s always possible that someone is willing.

The only defense against a gank is to:
• Stay docked
• Wait for CONCORD to arrive in-time

Alts/allies only work if you fly in a group.

If you refuse to participate socially in an MMO, you still can take steps to avoid a gank.
-Use a shuttle or corvette to check the next system over
-pay attention to local, set known ganker groups to red
-when you see combat probes on your dscan, debastion and align to station…warp out when you see ships less than 0.1 AU if you are behind acceleration gates or if not, then just warp out as soon as you are able.
-Don’t use blingy modules (but do bling out your head/implants), especially during increased drop rate events
-use a cloak when travelling, refit when in mission system
-keep an eye on zkillboard

Gankers go after easy targets, don’t be an easy target.

So allies do work meaning the only defense isn’t just staying docked up or relying on concord.

This is not just an mmo but an mmo based on the foundation of player interactions. Yes you will be disadvantage playing solo in eve this is by design and isn’t a bad thing.

That said you can still avoid being ganked simply by avoiding areas they take place. I used to be in an alliance called guardians of the Morrigan. Before the war dec nerfs we were one of the most war decced alliances in hs. As the goal was to break the mindset at the time of corps forcing their members to dock up for weeks to wait out wars.

Evading war targets was much harder than random ganks yet we taught our members how to do it.

We didn’t form up and fight back. Many of our players largely played solo. It was just awareness and understanding how to use the games systems to your advantage. We got to the point that we were running full mining operations with freighters sitting in belt. If i remember correctly it was only a single freighter the ever got caught.

You have loads of tools at your disposal in this sandbox you don’t ever need to get to the point that your impossible to be ganked you just need to make it more work to gank you than others.

Why is this becoming a ganking-discussion (again)? Probably 95% of all Marauders in HighSec don’t even use plates/extenders, so they are totally unaffected by the change. Travelfits are still possible, still giving enough eHP if to make one a completely unlucrative target for gankers. And mixed fits were crap prior to the changes and are now after the changes.

And not to forget, people act like they were forced to use a Marauder or forced to use the Bastion Mode in an environment they do not, want not or can not scout or control. Then just use another ship, one that can fly aligned all the time or one that offers a bigger buffer.

Tbh Marauders, or better, the Bastion Module, should have been banned in HS right from the start, it would have been better for the game at all, because it would give people a motivation/reward to leave HS to use the “shiny toys” and L4 wouldn’t be absolutely easycontent as it is now for a Marauder.

Because it’s really the only reason to have been against this nerf.

No one outside of hs is all too devastated by the change. Most saw it coming or were asking for the change

Not really. I agree that no one is “all too devastated” by the change, but it is another violation of K.I.S.S., adding another exception to a game that already suffers from overcomplexity, making the game even more patchwork and bandaid. The goal they wanted to adress with this change could and should have been achieved otherwise. So, the change, for me, has more bad than good, because it is simply a bad solution for an easy problem. And I hate lazy solutions that make the product worse, when a good solution could have been pretty easy to find.

Every single time ccp has tried to implement kiss it’s only ever backfired either immediately making things more confusing or eventually making things more confusing.

Because there’s simply to much in eve to make things both functional and simple. It just leads to exceptions that trip people up.

CCP has never really tried that, or never truly understood what K.I.S.S. means. Or you don’t, I don’t know. I play this game for almost 20 years, I haven’t noticed ever that an attempt to make things more streamlined with less exceptions has “backfired” in any significant way. The problem was never K.I.S.S. or the attempt to follow it, the problem when CCP changes things always was that their solution for an identified problem was often wrong, because they didn’t approach the source of the problem nor could they forsee the consequences of their change, they simply forget or ignore most of the time how their players think.
