They want to play a game that has PvP in it, but in a way that allows them to opt out of the experience. That way they can brag to others about being “hard” because they play these games, even though the actual act of doing so upsets their stomachs. It’s a low-risk method of going on a power trip.
I’ve played many survival games where such people sit in the main safe zone and never leave it, but talk a lot of shit in the chat. They just hang out near the vendor for hours and pick up garbage that other players drop on the ground. Then I’ll shift-tab and look up their Steam profiles, and it’s always something like “profeshonal Rust merc, cum get sum loL! ask youre mum how i wreckt her last nite ;)” in their bios.
That about sums up the average EVE miner. They crave the respect that comes with playing a hardcore game, but trust me, they never intended to do anything but low-end, safe-zone PvE.
