We are planning a mass test on Singularity on Tuesday, May 19th, at 17:00 UTC (= EVE time)!
What exactly is being tested?
New Travel System
This was already tested once several months ago and has now been polished.
The Travel System update is a graphical update with gameplay implications. The test participants should pay attention to how the jump effects look and feel, and how readable the game information is (sec, empire) for the tunnels. The team is on the look out for any exceptions or tech issues that havenât evidenced themselves in house (bug reports from in-client most appreciated). We are also interested in gathering feedback in many areas, a short list is below and may get updated before the test:
Smoothness and timing of jump sequences
Awareness of difference of tunnel types (e.g. Location, Security Level, Travel Method)
Tunnel lighting and brightness
Lightning brightness and intensity
Queasiness or discomfort from using the tunnels
Technical concerns (performance, camera edge cases, driver issues, crashes, etc.)
The team would appreciate a variety of ship classes and sizes to be brought to the test, since the camera is repositioned by data inferred from the hull.
How to connect to Singularity for this test:
Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.
I was on a previous mass test where we tried out the new jump animation. I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking for in terms of âgameplay implicationsâ - can you provide any hint about how this stargate effect is anything more than a different pretty animation?
Well, the main implication (as far as I know as outsider) is that the timing of jumping is changing a bit (in some cases it can take a bit longer). Not sure if there are any other effects.
Wait, does that mean jumping gains the same kind of delay that we already have to suffer through when we dock because some random scrub decided we must look at the completion of the cloaking animation?
Jump Tunnel: still takes over player camera, this is annoying. But, adding the playerâs ship for the eye to focus on, is an improvement.
But, WHY does my ship âspeed up and move ahead out of sight, leaving âmeâ (the camera) behind?â I (camera) would like to âarriveâ with my ship. I had a focus point, but it goes off into the distance. Itâs a disconcerting mix of 3rd and 1st person cinematics. The rest of EVE is viewed from a 3rd person perspective.
I donât have a problem with the in-system warp tunnel and effects. I wish gate jump would work just like it, permitting player camera control during the process, centered on the playerâs ship, with different (and nice!) tunnel effects, like the artists have done here.
i love the out of body experience i felt when watching it on singularity last night. wonderful improvement since i donât really like the first person view ingame anyways - i like to see my ship at all times.
i was just on and checked it outâŚit looks neat but the tunneling effect at the end feels longer than a normal gate jump. My feedback is the effect needs about 2s less feel.
If youâre gonna build a graphic like this you should go on a 50 jump run before releasing for testing âŚif you can see your own anmation 50 times and not loose your mind weâre probably be ok too.
Did some tests this morning and I noticed the differences more in the color/colour scheme between the different empires. Couldnât test abyssal and the new fillaments as it isnât available.
Donât know if I have to make a bug report for it but I did have 2 suns in the systems after using the /moveme command which also made them not getting blocked by the ship I was testing with (ie the suns were visible through the ships hull). After a few jumps this problem didnât persist and everything was normal again.
Tested a few filaments the other day and noticed the animation feels much better than the current one when it comes to jumping abyssal deadspace pockets. It does feel kind of long/slow but its hard to say if thatâs intended or just because everything on SiSi seems to have pretty blah performance.
Actually there are two types of filament crates on sale: with random tier 1 filaments and with random tier 3.
So if yo want to test lvls 4-5 you donât have to start from lvl 1.
