Only in a mind that has a twisted view, PVP takes all forms, don’t mine enough your enemies mine more out producing you, mining IS PVP, don’t produce enough ships and your enemies can wear the other down.
Mining is a boorish activity, but it is necessary, some enjoy it, let them, I don’t love mining but the bills need to be paid and I don’t always want to mission all the time, and things I want won’t be gifted, they are earned.
Why persons who do not mine trying to ruin mining process, or turn it to grind? Remember - miners build EVE.
Mining, from the appearance of first Venture, is AFK activity. Not PVP. Not shooting red boxes. Activity for those who don’t want to pew-pew. Completely automatic! This is the fact. If you hate miners - join CODE. It is the balance. Carnivore hunts, prey hides. Natural selection works.
I dont think a short minigame to initiate a laser on a rock is much to ask, or deal with.
It can perhaps be implemented so that RNG determines the % chance of a minigame popup per laser initiation, so it doesnt hit legit multiboxers too hard.
Something like “Mining laser has become misaligned and requires re-calibration. Line up the crystals in the pop-up to begin the mining process”
Explorers also have to complete a minigame. Its not just click space object, receive loot.
Explorers only have to complete a mini-game once in a while, the exploring is the main part for them.
Miners are chewing away at rocks for hours.
By the same logic you are using here, anyone doing DPS should have to complete a short mini-game to use their weapons, since it can be botted as well.
I.E. Stop with this obsession of Captcha, when it’s been proven that bots can handle simple ones better than people, and if they are complex it’s not easy for people to always get them right either. Especially in the middle of everything else a miner is doing if they are actually mining in a remotely dangerous or aware manner.
Explorers have to complete a minigame everytime they want to get reward. As I said, this mining minigame need not occur 100% of the time you attempt to engage a laser on a rock.
PvE is complex in ways mining is not.
It has not been shown bots in EVE can complete the types of bot-tests I have suggested. The EVE UI/Client offers means to confound bots in ways browser captchas cannot.
I think even a 10% RNG chance of a pop-up minigame per module activation on a space resource would be enough to stump most bots, and trivial for a player present to solve.
Yes, its profession specific, for now, but mining is also an activity currently most conducive to botting, and harmful to the resource economy.
Isk farming via botting is another matter, and arguably much more harmful, but this thread is about afk mining.
