Mining

What about Q Ships?
Q-ship - Wikipedia
In eve’s case… Take an ordinary cargo/mining/expedition ship and arm it.

Never heard of a Q-ship, that is super interesting. That is basically what people are doing with some ships now right, fitting for combat on a traditionally soft target to bait people to attack,

Just because CCP has a methodology and mindset when designing and balancing ships, does not mean you need to be constrained by their lack of imagination.

For example, the Battle Nereus. „Intended“? Who cares. A „bait venture“ unintended? Is that the reason you wouldn’t fly one: you only fly ships the way the Devs/God intended?

Saying „a ships intended purpose“ is putting way too much baggage in the „right click & show info screen“. Yes ships are bonused and have layouts that favor certain fits in terms of effectiveness. And sometimes those fits are effective enough to be viable for your purpose and other times not — as a matter of degree. Is it intended? It’s a useless question, because you’re either going to fly the ship or not. And is „the devs intended it“ really a part of your decision tree? No, you look at the numbers shown on the fitting window and they make you happy. Going further and saying „the devs intended this“ is just post-hoc rationalization: by definition, all the numbers on the fitting window are intended, whether you’re ■■■■-fitting a hull or not, whether the numbers are good or awful for that fit.

Be free of the shackles, and let others have the same freedom.

as someone who did explo with an instawarp and nullified (before changes) ceptor for years in hostile space and earned billions and billions while being hard to catch, i fully agree

Well this got way off hand, I never said, nor do I believe that you shouldn’t fit and fly ships however you want. And I absolutely think it is awesome to be able to do so. This whole tangent of discussion came about because you essentially argued that there were no such thing as non-combat ships. Which of course stemmed from my mistakenly using absolutes in my argument, while replying that I believe it is still ganking even in non-concord protected space.

What I should have said, and what I believe to be true is:

Attacking any non-combat oriented ship engaged in non-combat activities (like mining and freighting) with the intent to kill their expensive stuff is ganking. I think it is still ganking, even if it is in non-concord space.

I definitely have a new appreciation for the fact that many more people use traditionally non-combat ships for PVE/PVP than I thought. Which is neat.

None of this is to imply that there should not be ganking in the game. Only that I still think that it still qualifies as ganking.

Thanks for elaborating.

I still disagree about the whole Ganking word, but that’s not a big deal really.

Carry on.

Ganking is going to happen regardless of what anyone thinks or feels, it’s part of the game and we do it.
Anyone who says they wouldn’t go after a nice juicy fat barge is just a liar, period.

All I’m saying is that all I’ve been seeing lately for mining is nurfs. Would be nice to actually get a positive update. Something new and exciting

Were subscription prices going up.

Funny

A shame really. Sad to see the game go this way.
