Moderation of the Forums

The EVE forums are intended to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere for the EVE community to exchange ideas, and discuss EVE Online.

This is what you are told if you react to people who insult you in these forums. But it has never been the case, it has always been a nasty hateful place.

Also in the past certain ISD have actively worked with their favourite trolls, one in particular was administrating and banning people who reacted and left up the insults that caused the person to respond, this person was removed from the role as ISD because a number of people actually gathered a large dossier of such action by this ISD and made CCP aware of it.

It does not appear to be the case at the moment, but we are noticing again that some ISD are starting to be influenced and used by this type of forum user and they don’t seem to be aware of this.

and this

A number of especially nasty people would love to use this against others, in saying that you have this ability you have just made their attempts worse. Not an especially smart move.

I really doubt anything aside from repeated threats to someone’s life, doxxing, or extreme racism or sexism, can get someone banned not just from the forums, but from the game as well. It would have to be a criminal, or close to criminal action.

He didn’t say he can ban players from the game entirely. And that is because he can’t, only CCP can do that.
You’re bullshyting.

Please note below, thank you.

What is intended, and what actually happens are almost always at odds with each other.

If that is quoted to people by the forum administrators then they should make sure it happens. These forums are most definitely not a warm and friendly atmosphere for the Eve community to exchange ideas and discuss Eve Online.

It should read as follows:

The EVE forums are intended to provide a nasty bitter atmosphere for the EVE forum trolling community to insult ideas, and troll other EVE Online players.

This is the reality.

What exactly would a warm and friendly response to, say, your post contain?

Often responses in the forum are a result of a self-fulfilling prophesy; if one thinks it’s a nasty place full of trolls, one will post in such a way as to encourage especially forthright responses.

You would have to ask CCP on that, I thought it was being burnt alive while being stabbed by pitchforks. The friendly part being those trying to kill you with an unsuitable weapon before you burn to death.

This is nothing a game, what should scare everyone is that real world decisions big and small that affect us all are based on forum discussions as bad or worse than these :fearful:

Let’s say it this way…flagging is WAY out of hand here and is not only used as remark to the mods if something against the rules happens but as a tool to silence other, unconviniend, opinions that cannot be silenced by taunting, the troll accuse or insulting by some people…

And yes, this IS an abuse of the flagging system, and,to take me as an example,90% to 95% of MY flagged post are restored AFTER being flagged.

This shows CLEARLY the abuse status of this because even the mods seem to think that up to 95% of my remarks do not deserve flagging…

It’s misused and criticizing this is the only thing you can do about…beside raging out,but i’ve learned the hard way that those people are consistent and see only THEIR opinion as ‘right’ and so EVERY action against any ‘wrong’ opinion is justified out of itself…

Had several people contact me with over recent events, a number of people who have been harassed by several trolls and pointed out their trolling in a robust and forthright way have reported that they have been banned and their posts removed while the posts they reacted to were left untouched. This is a worrying state of affairs and if true indicates that we are getting back to the same level of bias seen when a certain very corrupt ISD was operating in that exact same fashion to attack what he saw as carebears.

People should have never get the possibility to flag ones post…

This should be the work of a moderator…

But ccp didn’t want to do this because it is work for people they didn’t want to pay for so they choose to install a system that is easily abusable and so we have the current status.

For the same reason the ingame language channels were closed…they didn’t WANT to pay a moderator for them…

Or those that misuse it should have the ability to flag and hide posts revoked.

I am interested to hear about anyone being temporarily banned for misusing the reporting system.

It seems to be a routine approach by certain people and if 95% of your posts get reinstated I would expect the ISD to deal with them appropriately. Have you asked?

For you information I was interested in looking at game forums that were known to be trolled with intense personal attacks. A friend suggested Eve Online and my initial observations indicate that he was spot on with his assessment. I had an Alpha account from a number of years ago so I reactivated it and I have been assessing the forums with great interest for the last six months.

If you have an issue or complaint regarding the conduct of the ISD team , the EVE Universe Community Team can be reached by contacting communityteam@ccpgames.com from the verified email address connected to your account

Alternatively I believe @CCP_Aurora is fairly high up the chain when it comes to moderation.

I was impressed to see the personal attack I commented on removed, also it was logical to remove those that referred to it, then we had the off topic posts removed. Good forum moderation. It also is a credit to the ISD to have such a thread open.

It’s a thin borderline between ‘moderation’ and ‘censorship’ - be interesting to see if this post survives…

Would it be true to say that you are on the PvP centric side of the game and is it true that White Knight 2b is on the PVE side of the game. If I am correct and you are both unhappy then the ISD are doing something right.

Furthermore there was a mass of off-topic posts here, which I often see on the Eve forums as a way to get threads closed, especially ones where they can develop into a flame war.

It was removed for being off topic, not for being a personal attack. The post concerned was actually restored and made visible by a staff member several hours before ISD Buldath wielded his forum broom.
