No one asked me, or anyone else, to stop responding to posts. I’m not even going against the rules, or the request, in directly responding to you right now. What we were asked to do was to not make this about each other. To that end, I tried. Could I have simply flagged your post and moved on? Sure. But I don’t really care about you, or what you think as an individual. What matters is how my proposal is judged by the community as a whole, and ultimately, by the developers.
I feel confident that my post was written, if not in a “warm” tone, then at least in an acceptably neutral one, and that I presented an idea in it that is open for discussion.
I expect that the ISD will get upset and throw a ban at me soon. But this exchange nailed the issue in these forums.
You as a long term player who has been there from the start, are insisting that you have the right to police the forums so as to remove any wrong thought regardless of the intention of the forums to be a warm friendly place to exchange ideas. It might have been written in a warm and neutral tone but the contents are anything but.
I saw two people who looked like they were going to react to your magnificent bait post, I contacted them in game and suggested that they don’t bother. To their credit both had seen it as a bait post and were pointing it out, but I asked them to allow me to do it, which they accepted. I stopped a potential flame war with my action.
edit - To clarify, my comment about a ban, was purely about continuing this discussion after an ISD gave a cease and desist instruction to Destiny. Destiny then did that bait post following on from that cease and desist. @Jonah_Gravenstein There is no question here on bias, Destiny has not ceased and I replied against my own judgement. I noted the unsubtle dig you made on accusing me of saying that any such ban would be bias over this, which is totally incorrect. I also noticed your pandering to ISD sympathy as a reasonable guy taking their side, it was not as smart as you think.
Highly likely, because your posts mostly consist of some version of “this is a masterful troll, very impressive, I am going to add you to my observation list now.” Not an accusation, just an observation. This falls within multiple moderation categories, which get pasted each time a thread gets cleaned. Which begs the question: why are you doing it, if you know it’s wrong?
I have done no such thing. I never insisted that I have the right to police the forums. In fact, I’ve gone on the record multiple times that I want all posts to remain intact, so that I could address them in a logical manner. If you have any specific examples of this, feel free to point them out so that I can address them, because I don’t want to be misunderstood, or misconstrued. I’m also willing to take this conversation offline for the sake of this thread, if this is something you genuinely want to discuss.
This is hearsay, and completely irrelevant to the discussion. That you contacted someone in-game about my post (whether true or not) is completely off-topic. This doesn’t bother me, but the ISD is likely to act against your post based on this fact (though I hope that they don’t, because once again, this is a case study in the pitfalls of forum moderation, and should be left intact to be discussed in an academic manner).
As I stated earlier, if you have a problem with the actions of the ISD team you need to take it up with the community team via an email from your registered email address.
The forums are not the place to be levelling accusations of bias against the ISD team. IMHO they tend to be fairly neutral, being able to separate their personal opinions from their volunteer duties.
It’s like I’m watching a contest of who can get away with being the biggest douchebag to their fellow posters while at the same time not getting silenced because they are also competing for who can be the biggest ISD crack licker.
Just so you know (and because I don’t actually hate you or anything, contrary to what your imagination might be telling you), I’ve seen people do this before, both to me and others, and to most outside observers, the base sarcasm has the appearance of desperation. I can tell you with great certainty that no one, not even people who agree with you on a fundamental level, are reading those posts and thinking “heh, he’s really putting that troll in his place!” Just an image of a person angrily digging a hole, really.
I’m not sure whether I should laugh or cry. Hate you or love you. Beg for more of your attention or hang my head in shame because you have frowned upon me.
This is the power of of the master as he obliterates all opposition with a simple wall of text.
I think it is like this: when a post is alerted and a mod decides to delete it you get a private message why it was removed. When a mod cleans up an entire topic you do not get a message privately but the mod makes a post in the topic itself.
