Moderation of the Forums

If you press reply, the one next to the menu in the post itself, it shows that you get replied to.

Eh, sometimes it works, other times it does not.

Clarification: YOU get a notice that I replied to you - but nobody else can see who my reply is toward.

Further clarification: made even more bleh by the mobile forum version stripping quotes out when nested quotes are posted - which makes replies even MORE nonsensical to the observer, or even the replied-to party.

Regarding my question that got buried with peoples off-topic tangent on personal attacks.

What is your opinion on having either an off-topic thread (akin to AFK cloaking) or a whole section that allows for more lenient moderation, while the rest of the forums have stricter moderation? This way, you address both the wishes for more moderation, while at the same time giving space to the people who are fine with the shitposting.

This way, mods also have a place to just move off-topic conversation, like the one that buried my question, so people can continue their conversation there instead of derailing another thread.

I’d be ok with it, but I would also have to check with Community Team before adding anything.

That is one of the things I really don’t much like about the forum software. Some of the other things I didn’t like have been addressed because large and influential users (CCP and at least one other game company I know of) probably told the software developers to make changes.

Much more eloquent than my post. And nearly impossible to willfully misunderstand what is being said.

you can always @ the person you are replying to… ya know, so its quite clear who you are referring to.

Are you talking to me?

That was to the general public, like @Mkikaden_Tiragen, you, and anybody else that were just talking about how replies don’t always work.

Sure, I can sit here and manually tag each person - but the point is that the forum is inconsistent about when it tags replied posts as a reply to a specific other post, rather than the original post. That inconsistency is obnoxious and leads to a lot of utterly unnecessary confusion on the part of forum participants.

Using the reply button works in most situations, and shows everyone who the post was replying to (& even links to that post if you click on the button).
The one time it doesn’t work is when you are replying to the last post in a thread, at which point your reply ends up directly below their post anyway, so is clearly linkable by context.

If the above isn’t working for you, I strongly suspect user error hitting the wrong reply button.

Turns out that the lack of clarity in knowing to whom the reply is addressed, is a complaint I’ve read today on another game forum using this software.

Also, altering quotes came up as a problem.

lemme guess, game from blizzard? They are at least the only other ones i know that use this particular software, and not to fond of how they have it set up…

It appears we cannot agree on what we we want moderated. The ISD has tried time and time again to be passive which at least “I” appreciate.

If you fall as a kid and some other kid laughs at you for falling, how is that abusive? It’s life. Get over it.

The thin skins of “some” ppl who post is beyond me. What happens when you have to deal with conflict in RL?

What most people want here is: " Anything I say is fine. Anything you say needs to be removed."

This an English speaking forum. Which means predominantly American. And you’ll not find many other people raised from birth to be as entitled as they are. In everything. From invading countries to making a grilled cheese sandwich, they are always right and everyone else is wrong.

So while they all agree on what they want moderated, it doesn’t work out as they look at it selfishly and not altruistically.

I have to disagree a lot with that. IF/When I flag a post for moderation, it’s when its a blatant rule breaking post or one that blurs the lines on what CCP defines as breaking rules, or if I think its above the PEGI-12 rating, which is what these forums are rated. U.S. Citizen here,

Was this a “personal attack”? Where do you draw the line?

I demand the ISD banish him/me from the forums!

Edit;

How in the world could pointing out the flaws in a population be considered personal?

Have you not seen how it gets twisted around?

I didn’t expect your skin to be so thin. Now that is a personal attack. Ban me or not for having to deal with children…

Nope. I’m just not getting it. Whatever you are trying to say seems to be lost in translation. Are you making a joke or something?

Want to rephrase it so I can properly respond?
