H…hi…
most merchants will opt for a processor, they don’t have to but most will, that’s also a “choice”, at least now we have more “choice” hopefully, but at least I won’t need a bank middleman for payment that’s all on the merchant side.
Can we use a SteamWallet payment on a non steam install of Eve? That would enable us to use Bitrefill to buy steam vouchers to add to the wallet. I would take a guess at no that’s only for Steam installed Eve accounts?
If we could even get Eve game time codes on BitRefill that would do.
You would be correct. Your other inanity aside, I think that the way CCP mistreats its presence on Steam is downright criminal.
Steam takes way too much from the pie especially for long running games like MMO where the subscription cost hasn’t been indexed since forever. CCP doesn’t need Steam, they just added it at some point because some marketing manager thought it’d be a good idea. It’s not.
So why haven’t they removed it from there then?
I mostly disagree. I understand the argument you’re making, but it doesn’t look at the complete picture. Steam has a huge user base, and CCP could get a lot of new players if they properly marketed there (and properly interfaced with it). Getting another 10,000 players at 70% of the revenue is better than getting none at 100%. Plus, they can later entice those players to switch to paying through the game itself.
Also, if I remember correctly, Steam has a tiered fee system now, so CCP might not necessarily even be at 30%.
Even EA is crawling back to Steam, companies need money
Exactly. So they’re not really doing much with steam other than being on it, you know “mistreating its presence”
Happy cake day Jonah.
You can buy it subscription with Cryptocurreny:
1: Convert your Cryptocurrency into Real Money.
2: Buy Subscription with Real Money.
You are wanting CCP to carry all the risks and issues associated with step 1.
If you are so “yah! Bitcoin is great!” then you’re obviously happy carrying that risk.
Unless someone doesn’t trust you with a bank account or credit card for some reason.
Given my knowledge of the work distribution of “Public” proof-of-work blockchain based Cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin): personally, I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole.
Nope, the payment processor they use manages that. CCP get EUR or ISK or whatever fiat currency they want
But people first have to get crypto to pay crypto. Too much hassle and… volatility.
You can continue paying as you do today, that won’t change, just for others, more choices.
I dont think its worth any thought. Its more probable you have money other than bitcoin, so u can pay anyway.
Or did you invest everything? Even blankets?
At whatever exchange rate applies. As I said CCP are carrying the risk. With Cryptocurrencies, then then volatility is not the only risk, especially if you are associated of the conversion to or from Real Currency where reality and the blockchain account identifiers are rationalised to identifiable legal entities.
If CCP don’t wish to accept the various risks, then that is their commercial decision. And it’s a decision I can completely understand and agree with.
By the way: just throwing an insult at someone isn’t argument. It’s childish and makes you appear incapable of justifying your statements. I’m disappointed; but looking at the rest of the thread, not surprised. Happy for you to explain to me all the weaknesses in Bitcoin and why they aren’t actually an issue: but until then: good luck with your crusade.
The payment processor freezes the exchange rate and the merchant gets the EUR or ISK or whatever fiat, it is the BUYER whom gets the risk and the processors manages the volatility and sets the rate, they will have the volatility priced in.
Just like you spending USD on your EUR card, you take the risk on the exchange rate, the bank is not taking a loss, they give you the previous day close, not intraday (well, some might but those are rare and you can do back office deals if you’re big enough), along with their fee cut.
The payment processor is going to make money, CCP will get their fait money, the buyer will probably kick themselves when it goes up an hour or day later.
Try it sometime, it works.
CCP pay for the service (they already do pay fees for processing payments with others, and their commercial bank account - they don’t get free like your retail account), they get their fiat, it is the processor whom processes, it is the buyer who takes the decision to pay at the rate or not given, with the risk the crypto goes up or down, used multiple currencies many times, I can assure you, it is me whom has the risk of the rate at the next payment or day being better, but that’s how it goes, you spend, you spend, you cannot have your cake and eat it at the same time). You simply decide to spend at the rate given, CCP will get their fiat payment and pay their service fee as they do with any payment provider. CCP don’t touch crypto at all, the processor process. (I may also get lucky and spend at the top :shrugs: who knows but the processor and CCP will get their money, rates flucutate all the time and that’s why the transaction is time limtied and expires, but that is not going to affect what CCP gets or the processor gets, they both win, they’re the “house”)
If you are carrying the risk: Why can’t you convert your Bitcoin to Real Currency then pay for your subscription directly?
I assume that since you have an Eve account (EULA: you are at least 18, or can do this with the consent of your parents if you’re 13-18) that you therefore have access to a bank account or a credit card to handle the transaction.
As I said:
(I just noticed they typo!)
And handily, CCP don’t have to do a thing.
You’re happy. CCP get another subscriber so they are happy. The world is a good and happy place.
This is a non-problem.
if you don’t want choice and options that’s fine, I do, you’re welcome to continue as you please
maybe we can just have the game in steam only, and forget the independent install option, remove more choices
I can assure you, getting fiat into crypto is bloody difficult (if you want to avoid anything) and is KYC for any fiat ramps on and off you’re not gona bypass anything
