I’m not gonna check your numbers, I will assume they’re correct.
Now do this math in addition:
40x AFK Orcas:
40 x 125m3 = 5000 m3/min.
40x AFK Orcas for 5 hours: 1.5m m3/40 Orcas/5h
It has been pointed out that the problem here is one can leave these Orcas out AFK in a HS belt for hours – apparently – without any worry that they’ll be destroyed. Making this a zero risk high reward activity in practice. One just needs to have the resources for hulls, injectors, and 40 subscriptions (in this example, could proabably do with fewer) and one is set.
You’re assuming they’re PLEXing the accounts, which isn’t necessarily correct. And if they were, they wouln’t PLEX by month.
But say they PLEX and say they PLEX in the most inefficient way possible. You and I might look at those numbers rationally and conclude that’s unviable and stupid. However, there are guys who play this game and they don’t care about neither are even aware of these numbers. They buy PLEX with real money or sub with real money and everything above that is ‘profit’ for them.
Well the accounts have to be omega to be able to fly orcas so there omega somehow.
Yes I get what you mean they might be oblivious to the fact that there lossing money. The most likely think would be they either afk mine with orcas when there not actively money making on the game or they have them set up with pi and SP farms think pi is about 1bill a month SP farm is again about 1 bill a month then afk orca mining 1bill per month. Each account then would profit 500mill isk a month aka 50 accounts would be 25bill isk net positive a month. However I honestly think the risk/reward isn’t worth it if your afk mining 24/7 in orcas in high sec ccp will know and ban you. So while there is a world where they are slightly profitable (not including money spent on wifi) the risk/reward doesn’t pay out.
this thread is just another “waah hi-sec is too profitable” whine. nerf lvl4’s .. nerf abyssals .. etc.
some players think their play style is more noble than others . or their account somehow has more value than another . your screenshot of miners you call cancer , CCP calls that ‘paying customers’ . they’re devaluing miner’s product ? so do you , if you mine . that’s called competition . nearly every null-sec alliance has hi sec mining corps . sorry if theirs is better than yours .
btw , when i look at your screenie of those moon-mining orcas and barges , i’m reminded that building every one of them costs much more , as they now require parts made in null sec . just another bone the GM’s threw to their spoiled null sec CCPets .
not every action has a counter , nor are you entitled to one . nullifiers come to mind . you can stack bubbles , but a nullifier counters them all . it is balanced by the drawbacks of fitting one .
you believe a billion isk orca , with very low risk in hi sec , but that mines less than a venture , is not balanced by risk vs. reward ?
It’s not merely a question of balance. It’s also a question of gameplay. It’s bad game design to reward AFK players who are doing nothing, instead of active players who are doing something.
Last time I checked it surpassed a Procurer, or is at least on par with a Procurer, but with no risk of being profitably killed.
Did you simulate yield with T2 drones and core active?
AFK mining devalues the activity for everyone who wishes to play the game to mine. There should be reasonable ways to deal with competitors in this game and against Orcas in HS there’s very little that can be done.
Orca drone mining is terrible yield. It’s akin to Skiff mining. The player has to spend a massive amount on skill injectors or wait a year just to skill up to an Orca with any proficiency and then they need to spend the 2 to 3 billion ISK on a ship and fit (depending on the fluctuating price of the hull). All to AFK mine at the rate of a Skiff.
It’s not worth it. Just get a Skiff and shield tank it.
I wouldn’t worry about it- they’re not hurting the economy since they’re not making anything compared to what a Hulk can make with an Orca.
How is Orca yield on par with an Exhumer ‘terrible yield’?
There are mining frigates, mining destroyers, mining barges and an Orca surpasses all as a support ship, mining at a rate of an Exhumer.
Behind a Hulk or Mackinaw it might not be the best yield in the game, but it certainly is very high yield for a nigh-unkillable ship with huge ore hold that can easily be scaled up to a fleet of dozens with much, much less effort than Exhumer mining to the point that it can be done (semi) AFK.
If you ask me the idea to let players only get a suspect timer for attacking drones is a good counter to such AFK strategies.
Additionally CCP could consider increasing the fuel cost of the industrial core to ensure that the income of a non-supporting Orca is much lower despite it’s high yield, so that fleets would consist of a single support ship supporting barges and exhumers instead of a few dozen ‘support’ ships.
I question that math hard. Most moons don’t have that much Bitumens or Zeolite. And 5 drones, even under an Orca, don’t mine near fast enough to make that much. One Orca making 30 million ISK an hour? Only if you’ve got the luckiest moon in the entirety of High Sec!
Sure, it may look like that from the beginning, but then you’ve mined out those rocks and have to select new ones which may not be worth so much- and the moving around… It’s a mess. AFK mining in an Orca is not profitable. Especially in High Sec.
40 Orcas * 2.5 billion ISK = 100 billion ISK
Skill training for 40 Orca pilots = about 30 or so years worth of skill points.
Seriously- why are you worried about this idiot?
After the good rocks are mined out, you’re looking at mining the cheap rocks.
So no- you’re getting nowhere NEAR 30million ISK an hour. And even if you were, who cares?
P.S. - if this guy is PLEXing those 40 accounts, he’s making nothing. So if it really bothers you, send some messages to AO and Black Flag. They’ll war dec him and blow up his Athanors.
An Exhumer is a class of ships. It’s not a ship. An Exhumer can range from a terrible yield (skiff) to a moderate yield (Mackinaw) to a wonderful yield (Hulk).
A Venture can out earn a Skiff. Also, the yield of the Exhumer is based on whether or not you tank or yield fit it. Skiffs are often Tank fit. (i.e. no mining upgrades). Putting mining upgrades on a Skiff is usually frowned upon since a Skiff is designed with tanking in mind.
A Hulk with Orca buffs will vastly out-mine anything in High Sec.
