I hope that was not for me? Your knowledge of the game far excides mine.
I was just messing around. People sometimes call me condescending. Apparently pointing out that someone knows less about a subject than they think they do is condescending, even when you try to be tactful about it.
Well it was pretty condescending of you to create a Nerf Ganking Megathread, and fill the post with facts and logic demonstrating that ganking doesn’t need a nerf, and then use your CCP admin alts to force all the crybaby threads to merge into this one.
People who advocate for removal and/or nerf of ganking in a nutshell…
Only pro-gank argument i heard that holds any water is ‘the game was always this way’. Rest is either insults or personal attacks.
I prefer to think of the crews of a ganker ship as terrorists, willing to die for their Prophet, whomever the flavor of the month is at that moment. Fact is, Suicide “ganking” is a part of real life too, as the recent spate of mass shootings in the USA show. You can choose to either live in fear, or put your big boy pants on and continue to go to work every day.
You were doing well earlier. Almost rational.
Now you have just descended into trolling. Stop.
Plenty of valid arguments have been put forward which you continue to refuse to address or offer any counter point to.
In fact last time I got “wall of text, not reading that”. Refusing to read them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
First of all, whether or not you like Consensual Only PvP or Unrestricted PvP is matter of personal preference. There is no objectively better version of PvP, nor is there any way to prove it. You might as well be telling people to justify why horror movies should get made over a feelgood popcorn flick.
Some people, however, don’t want to play a UPvP game, and the state of the MMO genre isn’t all that great right now. So, they start playing UPvP games like Albion Online, Sea of Thieves, Eve Online, and New World, and think, “I could dig this game if it wasn’t for all the PvP.” And so they start lobbying for people’s play styles to be nuked, PvP-free zones, PvE only servers, and/or moving the game in a more casual, cooperative, and PvE-focused direction.
But they can’t just say, give me what I want, and ■■■■ all the existing fans that love the game for what it is. Because that would reveal just how selfish and entitled they are. So, they try to come up with all sorts of justifications (lore, verisimilitude, balance, newbro retention, etcetera), and try to deligitimize the priorities and values of the UPvP crowd. They call them cyberbullies who are only interested in griefing, their play style is a content denier and something that interferes with other players abilities to have fun, and their play style isn’t “real PvP.”
And this is what tends to shape the debate. Nerf gankers try to provide “valid” reasons for why the devs should cater to their wants, and the HTFU crowd tries countering their arguments. But the whole thing is absolutely ■■■■■■■ absurd when you take a step back and look at it -as it’s basically two sets of people arguing over whether a particular sub-genre of MMO should exist or not.
Why the ■■■■ do I have to defend the existence of my play style.
Why the ■■■■ do I have to justify why the game that I love should retain the things I love about it?
It’s bullship. I shouldn’t have to. I shouldn’t feel compelled to spend several hours a week arguing to preserve always on PvP and the brutal nature of my game. But, as many players, devs, and youtube commentators have observed, the UPvP crowd is greatly outnumbered by the nerf-gankers (who are extremely selfish and entitled). And so I feel that if I don’t fight, my game will be destroyed by the tyranny of the majority.
And on a side note, there are advantages and disadvantages to both styles of PvP. I’m not going to go through the list here, as I’m about to do it in a video. However… and I shouldn’t even have to do this… but I wanted to show that UPvP (including ganking) has a lot to love about it for those that enjoy that type of gaming experience.
Get ■■■■■■,

I did not refuse to address anything.
I did read the thing, and as expected there was only 1 relevant line in the thing. Burying your arguments under a wall of text is an easy way to waste the time of the other side. So if anyone wants to make a point, just get to the point.
“I have only made this letter longer because I have not had the time to make it shorter.” — Blaise Pascal
Or in other words, ‘i am lazy and wrote a wall text so you have to waste your time on it, not i’
Ah yes, the gankers are not selfish and entitled, riiiiiight. Litteraly the only persons that are selfish and entitled that i’ve seen are gankers.
Yeah that’s because full hardcore pvp games do not work by themselves. You need something else. In eve the other things are industry and pve, so you are forcing 3 gameplays together, 2 can go hand in hand (pve and industry) and the third full unconsensual pvp clashes with them. People will want one or the other, rarely both (altought some might). But by their own full hardcore pvp with no safe zone DO NOT WORK, because there’s a very very small amount of people liking it.
This is why eve struggles with retention, because people try it, see theres something they like then get killed by a minority of players, ask for a change because this is bull**** then realize how toxic the ganking community is and leave.
Yeah the 5 of them, with their 50 alts each.
Which is exactly what they are.
It is pvp in a very basic way, but not a fun kind. When only 1 side get to have fun in a game then you have a very big problem. PvP games do thrive when they are fair, and when people do expect to engage in pvp.
The problem with eve is it feels like a bait for more casual players who want to play for industry and pve, you might think this is boring but for me pvp is boring, everyone its own. But eve baits people in with those and then you realize you were always there only to be ‘content’ for some griefer all this time. This is what hurts so much. The game has so much potential but is stuck with this ‘full hardcore pvp’ idea. It could be so much better.
I don’t care about nuance, details, or supporting arguments. If it’s too long to fit into a tweet, it’s not worth reading.
Also, pay no attention the multiparagraph tirades of nerf-gankers.
Pictures are the solution.
Or maybe a pop up book. Although if a catalyst popped up when you opened it I’d probably be accused of griefing, breaking immersion and being a physco
Which line?
Saw Local the other day…
Some guy was calling another person some very unsavory stuff.
The conversation was about others flying into “his” anom in HS and “stealing” his sites.
anoms are public domain, that guy was begging to be ganked or pvp’d but the other guy had said he was docked and didnt care about anoms.
point is, the guy crying about competition…is the same type of player that calls gankers bullies and griefers.
when the gankers are part of larger groups that DO all the PvE and industry that EvE has to offer.
So what if he did, there’s dumb people everywhere and doing everything. Gankers are usually more experienced players and they can stay calm because they are cowards never risking anything. They are not the ones losing months of work because somebody felt like it.
They are entitled and very very selfish that is a fact, and bullies.
Is the ganker the problem? Or is taking a risk with months of isk the problem?
And I’m being serious. Why would anyone risk months of isk?
and your argument is stupid…
I am a ganker.
But I am also an industrialist, a mission runner, and a miner…I also pay my ppl very well for collecting resources.
When ppl want to be stupid, or they get my ppl complaining about competition…that is when the bumping and ganking starts. They have a choice, move, joins us, or keep getting enforced on when that happens. Sometimes they come here crying gankers are bullies…
Gankers are not bullies, they are simply dealing with non-blues in the most efficient manner possible…removal.
You know what being selfish means? Because ‘it’s not my problem’ is litteraly it.
Oh i’m sorry you didnt like it.
We’re not talking competition here, stop changing subject. We are talking about griefers and bullies. High sec is not low or null sec. Getting blown up in L/NS is expected.
So, what getting blown up in HS is not expected? If I wanted to play in a pure PVE game, I would play Star Trek Online.
