Hi, new player here. After some mild research for playing EO, I’d like to bring up something clearly never before discussed: the pros and cons of some kind of, um, sort of functional “walk-in” application you could do with your PC toon, perhaps on a station of some kind.
It’s unfortunate that the character creator for EO is awesome, the finished toon looks great, yet so little is done subsequently with the toon.
Also that from what I see, the main appeal in EO besides spreadsheets and emostrangulation is the sheer epic scope of the content, playing a space billionaire with vast astro-geo-political power, operating in a microcosmic economy where your actions have real significance… Doing everything that other mmos precisely FAIL to do. Egotism, vanity and narcissism are effectively fuel for playing this game, it seems, they are great motivators and are richly rewarded.
So, there surely must be something that can be implemented for using your actual PC avatar?
I too don’t see much value in JUST a social hub use, you don’t need 3rd person avatars to chat, but some elements of the actual gameplay could be enhanced by using a 3rd person toon. And I don’t mean turning the game into a shooter, necessarily, but some kind of conference or diplomatic content, something which could benefit from a PC making a personal appearance.
Allowing your toon to appear in in-game advertising for your corp, on holographic displays and 3d billboards. Allowing you to represent your toon in-game in some function like that?
I know some people don’t want anything introduced that will detract from the main area of gameplay, but c’mon, there has to be a middle ground to explore in terms of uses for avatars.
"…clearly never discussed."
Sorry, but that had me laughing for a good couple of minutes.
The question/issue has been discussed ad nauseum, but go ahead and restart it back up again. Bottom line is that CCP is highly focused on their bottom line and EVE resources are stretched mighty thin atm.
Something involving the avatars would need to be more than just a small vanity/social addition to be worth the effort. To implement anything where avatars are “used” would essentially mean making a whole new game, within the current game, which is no small undertaking.
I’d personally prefer they just stick to making the spaceship part. That’s what they do best, and they do that brilliantly.
Oh I love this. I have so many threads I can use this in. Pretty much anything in the player ideas and features forum… that and your weekly complaint thread about wardecs and ganking.
Something like a captains quarter would be great. With a couch to sit on, maybe so we could watch tv in the game. Does not really need any gameplay in my opinion, we could just add a closed door and hint at some hidden yet-to-come content. People would probably be fine with that for years.
That would be great I think. I pessimistically estimated that this feature would bring millions of new players.
I think Eve would not work as an avatar game at all - However, combined with another CCP game that is an avatar game could work.
Similar to how Dust and Eve were connected.
In Eve, your ship is your avatar. I don’t think this game needs to have some second life mini game where you can just walk around and do some boring emotes or whatever.
