BLAMESTON, EVERYSHORE – The “Mirelle Man”, an eyewear model whose real identity is one of the most closely-guarded secrets in the Gallentean fashion industry, is someone that every capsuleer who has ever docked at a station has seen at some point. As the official model for the Mirelle brand of executive glasses, his face has adorned just about every billboard in every station across New Eden, and his presence has attracted quite a bit of fans. Even more numerous than that, however, are those that have just about had it with him being ever-present across so much of the advertising space around New Eden.
Those in the latter camp saw their chance to strike when the model posted the following to GalNet, reaffirming his position on a certain lifestyle popular in the Federation:
“i know that it’s the federation, live your own life and everything,” he wrote on his RealMirelleMan account, “but i’ll never get the catgirl thing like… the tail, the ears, what’s the point even??? way too extra for me”
Insider sources have reported to Gutter Press that this exchange may have been the result of a rather uncomfortable encounter with a cat-girl at an Egonics-held afterparty in Blameston, as the Mirelle Man was in the system to lend his voice to some upcoming Egonics software upgrades, as well as to appear in some promotional holovids for the company. Our source reported that the drunk catgirl became more than a little hands-on with the eyewear model, which caused the usually composed eyewear model to verbally lash out at the intoxicated party guest before he was quickly calmed down by the party staff. Regardless of who was at fault, many took offense to the star’s post, and attacked him back on GalNet for his remarks.
“Kink shame much?” wrote Enia Allync, herself a catgirl as well, in a reply. “You couldn’t get a catgirl, even if you tried. Should be thankful that one of us even gave your sorry (expletive) any attention at all.”
“Disgusted that the Mirelle brand lets someone like this represent them,” stated catgirl enthusiast Burlaert Ovrell. “It’s not okay to invalidate how someone wants to mod their body. To all the catgirls in the Federation, just know that not all Gallentean men are (expletive) like him.”
Some, such as the Freedom Extension sales rep Ingar Hjarmund, were more forgiving of the model. “I’m sure that it sounds bad,” he said in a response, “and maybe yes, it is close-minded. But is he not free to think that it’s strange?”
Gutter Press also met with catboy Muvinare Allet, the president of the Everyshore Cat-Person Association, to directly get his side of the story, and what he thought about the whole situation.
“I’m actually familiar with the catgirl that spoke to (the Mirelle Man), yeah. Would I say that she harassed him? I don’t really think I can say that. However, I do think that it’s perfectly normal to think that we might be strange. Our lifestyle is something that we chose for ourselves, it’s not something that we were born with. While I do think he would do good to read up some more about us, he’s far from this bigoted boogeyman that everyone on GalNet seems to want him to be. Like sure, his face is everywhere, but have you seen him? He’s gorgeous! Of course they’re going to plaster his face everywhere.”
For his part, the model seemed to be apologetic for his remark, posting the next day that he was “sorry that he may have offended anyone in the cat-person community.” Most seem to have accepted his apology, but perhaps for those who are just sick of seeing him everywhere, no apology may be enough. It also remains to be seen whether he will face any workplace repercussions for his post.
