No Downtime Vol. 2 Feedback Thread

Hi CCP,
Why donā€™t you use the test servers for this test instead of this BS on Tranquility. I distintively remember a time where you actually did some tests on the Test Server before migrating it to the Live Server, but maybe this is perhaps a new and FANTASTIC way of doing things on your part?

So true ā€¦. not possible to test ore respawns on test server ? :frowning:

Thanks for the feedback; this type of test is impossible to do on the test servers. We donā€™t get the scale, randomness, and various edge cases in real player behavior there. We deeply appreciate your patience.

The regular asteroid belts only replenishing during downtime was a known issue going into this test. This is why we decided this morning, after a discussion since last night, to extend the test from 48 hours to 52 hours as we investigate some technical buildup we are seeing, rather than repeating the test later. Downtime is in 2 hours.

If i wanted to go belt ratting, then this is a dream come true in Lowsec belts. As I go and do recon for ore in lowsecā€¦nothing at all, unless Iā€™m in a 0.1 system and then the amount to be mined is laughable at best. the risk //reward level made it worth to effort to go into low sec or null sec and mine. if this is a scarcity period , then Iā€™m all for it. if this is the now normal game play? then I would rather delete this game and cut my loses in the amount of real money I spent on this game. Miners // manufactures are the back bone of this game and shouldnā€™t be treat as third class citizens.

Thatā€™s cute, really cute.
Are you aware that gankers donā€™t spawn as a result of downtime? They spawn as a result of players logging in. Thereā€™s a slight difference.
Look on the bright side though, with nothing to mine a smart miner might do something else and go have some fun somewhere. This would have the side effect of possibly reducing gankable targets slightly.
The possibilities are amazing when someone discovers they can do more than one thing.

I do not understand the ones that complain about Asteroid belts respawning.
It was stated that Asteroid belts will be deleted in the future and only anomalies will remain. And anomalies normally will have to be mined out to respawn new ones.

This no Downtime will be implemented in the future too. So the two will combine good.
Miners are safe. it will only be a small different way to do it.

Not seeing that in the online population numbers. Dotted line is comparison to last week:

Last night I was playing and got stuck in a jump between systems for a couple of minutes. When I came out all my windows were blank and I could not do anything. I kept getting an error message that my character was not connecting to the server or something like that. All I could do was shut the game down and restart.

Thought you might want to know.

A better response would be to state that, before you next undertake such a test, you will ensure you actually have a plan in place to ensure mining can continue. As I have pointed out repeatedly, you have code for anomalies. That could have been deployed for 48 hours, and might actually have given you a better test. Instead, you have messed with the the data that was so seemingly precious to you by not giving people a reason to log on circa 1100-1200Z when the fields are fresh, thus invalidating comparison with player numbers on a normal day with DT.

Hey @Daryl_Noban, can you send us a bug report about this issue, please, and post the EBR number here. We want to look at this in more detail.

I missed that. When was that said please?

I kinda like asteroid belts and in terms of actual realism, it strikes me that theyā€™re likely to a feature of quite a few solar systems out there.

I only noticed one difference in how Eve was behaving while I was on. I found that there were a lot more diamond rats showing up in astroid belts (and at stations in one case), Iā€™m not sure if it was me, but I got the impression that because there was nothing for them to mine they were simply hopping from belt to belt looking for astroids.
If they werenā€™t so dangerous (I almost died finding this) I would have almost felt bad for them.

The mission The Good Word had some problems. Number one will be the attacks of Tolmakā€™s Zealots to Scions of Superior Gene, since in the transcript that they will provide me cover, which in turn, only using orbits. Second is the projectile decrease everytime I have Alt + Tab screen, to see some lores. Thank you, Devs!

Indeed, and while unfortunate and weā€™re sorry that it happened, it exposed that that we can only fix such oversights with a downtime (itā€™s more specifically processing that only happens during server startup). Thatā€™s a valuable observation for us to fix our tools.

You completely miss the point. This experiment has messed up those who like mining from being able to do what they like. Your argument might equally be applied to gankers - perhaps they should be forced to do something else.

My point is that the uproar that would ensue if the sacred cow of PVP combat was messed up for two days would be quite something to behold. Indeed, I doubt CCP would risk allowing an experiment that had that effect.

Interviews with CCP members.
The code for the asteroid belts is very old and the fact that the asteroid belts respawns at DT create inequalities between players that can login at DT and those that can not.

If they modify this then the people that logs on later (US time zone) can mine anomalies not find empty belts because the EU players (EU timezone) mined the belts out in a few hours.
