It is work in progress.
The fact that mining anomalies and belts exist in the same time is that they need some continuity.
The number of anomalies and how big they are as far as I know is watched closely. After the scarcity period ends you will see some of the results I guess.
Since you knew there were no astroids, did you go wandering about in your mining ship? A big part of this experiment is to make mining distribution better for everyone. As it is now, being dependant on downtime it is not. So you couldnāt mine much for a day or so, whatās the problem? Mining will be one of the things that improve when they get rid of the old code.
Do something else for a day, and think of it like this, you arenāt a target for as many gankers if you arenāt sitting like a flaccid noodle in an eggshell ship waiting to die.
Gankers lost targets because of this too, and I donāt see them bitching much if at all.
This is a tiny disruption that could improve the whole game.
Laughable. Truly laughable. I did do something else, just as I always do, because I am not exclusively a miner.
All I am saying is that, funny old thing, CCP feels it is ok to run an experiment that they know is going to screw miners, despite the fact that have existing code for mechanisms that could mitigate the impact. As I say, would the PVPers be happy with CCP saying, āWe know this is going to screw up PVP for 52 hours, but it might mean the game is better in a couple of yearsā timeā?
As ever, mining is the one thing that CCP does not understand, and cares less about.
And in case you are not aware, most gankers now seem to go after haulers, only a minority now harass miners routinely, despite all their CODE childishness.
Well, I have been trying to mine some low sec ore for 3 days. Downtime or no downtime apparently if you are not Russian timezone or early EU you are just out of luck. If you play in US TZ and go to 3 different systems and every single belt is cleaned by NPC miners it is freaking ridiculous. one system even had 13 belts and two anomalies all stripped clean by NPC miners.
So let me get this straight. Your post was mostly a roundabout way of bitching about gankers?
I think youāre right, either thatās what you are doing or Iāve actually completely missed your point.
people donāt mine on the test server so belts never need a respawn they can only test things like that on live servers. granted they should look at mechanics that rely on the DT to function and plan for them but maybe they did and just overlooked some it is hard the remember all the lines of code. Personally, I like the no DT, other MMOs run for weeks without downtime I would like to see that here would make for a better experience. all tho perhaps they could find a way to restart systems(servers) without people occupying them and introduce some sort of in-game way of running it like perhaps gates having āmalfunctionsā so people canāt always rely on the same routes in space or rats running blockades on gates of systems that need a restart. I can think of other ways to do restarts of the physical equipment without needing to take the entire game down.
@CCP_Explorer A thing to look into. With No Downtime the NPC mining activity and how it will affect anomalies in the future if there will be no resets.
What is the point of NO DOWNTIME? No one I know minds the server coming down for a short time to possibly reduce some of the bugs in the game. I donāt see the benefit of this other than reducing the amount of time for CCP staff to work. This is a way to try to reduce expense for staff. We already pay enough for this game to expect the game to run smoothly and effectively. Fix what is broken do not break more things by running them longer. Next will be weekly downtimes and the game experience will be crap. Pearl Abyss has taken a game we all loved and are turning it more and more into a pay to win mini-transaction piece of garbage like all the other games of that model. Amazing what Greed will do isnāt it.
Downtime affects different tz. While Iām not affected cause Iām asleep during dt, other tz like Asia or Oceania is affected and they are working on reducing dt to not affect certain to.
There is plenty of reasons for the DT to be part of the game.
Itās been in the game for litterally ages, itās something players have learnt to integrate into their gameplay to an extent that it takes part in the āfeelā of Eve.
It allows for inactive toons to be dcāed.
It helps āquickā and āmotivatedā players to take advantage of those ājust beforeā and ājust afterā DT time slots, when not many other players are online, and gates arenāt āactiveā yet (you need to jump twice if you are the very first toon jumping through that gate).
It forces a few players to become aware they have been playing non-stop for hours. Gaming addiction was mitigated to an extent by DT. CCP, come on.
The planet ! Those 30 seconds during reboots which spared the planet such a great deal of polluting energy consumption ! Ok, now Iām just kidding about this one
Iām quite new to the game, but I canāt find any asteroids to mine within 4 gates of the area Iām doing the tutorials out of. Is this an effect of not resetting the system daily? (I assume it is since Iāve looked at several other posts). I thought Iād just throw my 2 cents in.
Both, not logging in if all you do is mine, or jumping in some other ship and doing different stuff in Eve.
There is more to this game than just mining and ratting. Like a lot more and to me that is what makes it really cool. If I canāt do one thing for whatever reason I have a million other options to choose from.
The idea of doing nothing but one thing over and over is rather foreign to me, but if I did and it stopped working for some reason I would hope I had the sense to get out of my rut.
Yes it is, you nailed it. Donāt worry though you can continue the tutorials later. Your timing is perfect though, any sooner or any later and you would have missed this. Also it will be over soon, so donāt lose hope, experiments like this are very rare.
For now just keep learning, ask questions in Rookie Help (if you can keep up with it!) and explore new Eden a bit, itās huge and amazing.
I donāt understand why resources are being wasted on trying to eliminate a āfeatureā that every EVE-Player has grown used too and integrated into their game like a few people have already pointed out (e.g. escaping right after DT, etc.)
I think the resources would have been better spent on trying to eliminate TiDi or fix other Bugs in the game
