Those involved were aware the pilot was afk dealing with a sick child. Yes it’s EvE Online but if you really think you are a big man with this game play then they have no room in the EvE community.
I have no idea, but that wasn’t the point, he was streaming on twitch, daughter starts throwing up and has to afk in a safe so badmanlarry gets a combat prober to find him while the baba pilot is afk dealing with real life. I hope those all involved gets non stop abuse in game.
How is the person supposed to know they were afk? Also content streamers see them getting exploded as content…this isn’t abuse. Don’t try and bat for someone else?
I think the priority here is the sick child. Losing a virtual ship is not an issue or should not be an issue compared to family and real life. I would hit the safe log out button and took care of the child. Another point comes to mind, he was streaming on twitch? That in of itself is crazy in my opinion. Live streaming where you are playing is the fastest way to get ganked.
I do agree, if those watching his live stream, thought the gank was cool, it was not. They should at least apologize to him. They probably are 12 years old or that mentally, so I doubt it will be on their bucket list. It is nice you have his back, maybe you can start a Go-Fund-Me page for him?
I just noticed it was in a WH…should have hole control before even bringing out marauders, much less a Baba. Even without the sudden need for AFK, that Baba was dead
So what, that doesn’t give him immunity. He’s not special and doesn’t get special privileges. If he chooses to leak intel about his location and afkishness (is that a word?) then that’s his choice, and choices tend to have consequences.
I’m not claiming it wasn’t the case here, but there is, in fact, no way for anybody in an online game to know that another player is, in fact, dealing with a real real life emergency. All you know is somebody or himself told you that that is the case. Which could be a lie. ‘‘Hey, I have a couple of chasers on my tail and I’m in this 10b ship and can’t hide from them, what to do? I know – I’ll say I have a sick child, and hopefully they’ll leave me alone’’. No-one’s gonna fall for that and rightfully so.
If you are playing EVE and a real-life emergency arises, I hope every person here has the presence of mind to forget about the game and deal with whatever is happening in real life. This game is not important, in fact. Hell, if I was hauling ALL of my in-game assets in a freighter on autopilot through Uedama pipe I wouldn’t hesitate to go AFK immediately if someone close to me in real life needed my help. F the assets. They’re replaceable. My friends and men I love are not. I wouldn’t think twice about the loss and I wouldn’t care.
So all 15 involved happened to be in discord? I highly doubt that, besides, where is Ghosty himself? He doesn’t need random people going on discord and talking on his behalf, he can do so himself, if he even cares about the loss.
Bottom line, him being afk didn’t lead to the loss, the lack of hole control by his allies did which allowed 15 neutrals/red to come in.
This is why I always ask people if they’re AFK before I kill them. If they don’t say yes I open fire. if they do say yes then they’re clearly at the keyboard and a liar.
What always strikes me about situation like how players have little care about person on the other side of the screen. If it’s veteran of years of experience or rookie who first time undock or regular pilot sidetrac by real life like intending to a child it seem to not matter reaction is same: a target is a target but it’s multiplayer game so logic also say other players could need help or time be ready. Not everyone is on same level or same circomstances.I wonder about human nature sometimes why is that a game vast and complicate as EVE with lots room for building, exploring and cooperation the focus so often comes down the same few things? Killmails, ISK, PLEX, and maybe get a few tears of someone in the local that’s the prize and everything other like context circumstance and common decency just gone. Maybe it is same with corporations where the weakest go away and two superpowers rule the whole game andn that is not too smart for multiplayer game. May be the game is like ruthlessness you scratchmy back I stab you in yours but at the same time it’s a little strange how quickl players can shut off ampathy for pixels on killboard. No pause, no hesitation, no thaught on who or what could be happen behind the screen just want score to profit to brag to add another point on killboard list then no one left to be surprise when players don’t undock. I think true nature for New Eden cold, harsh indifferent but it still have me wonder when so many players love to remove the humanity from the interaction, what does that it about us?
Or maybe people should realise that just because certain people have X, Y, Z excuse for why they shouldn’t be susceptible to interference, doesn’t mean anyone should care about that. If your character is ingame and undocked it’s a valid target for anything and everything. No one gets special treatment unless, in the eyes of potential attackers, they deserved it.
You’re not special, he’s not special. Demanding or expecting special treatment is Main Character Syndrome, and crying about it generally means more attention. Streisand and all that.
