I don’t have F keys on my keyboard so for years I’ve been using 1-6 and and qwer for some modules.
As of yesterday, when clicking into some windows I MUST click off that window to use these hotkeys, this is really hindering my experience and it was working fine for years until yesterday.
Two windows giving me trouble → Dscan and the “locations window” (screenshot below)
Generally to MWD → Cloak → Warp I would right click a bookmark from the screen above, click align, then tap 1 + 2 (for MWD + Cloak). Now I have to click into space before for the game to register my 1 + 2 button presses.
What’s odd is if I rebind my 1 + 2 key to F1 and F2 it works fine, however this requires me to use an awkward function button.
This worked just a few days ago what happened?
In the process of trying to determine whether or not it was a local problem I’ve cleared cache, reset settings and ultimately reinstalled the game, the issues persists. I also tried using a backed up version of my settings from months ago.
I know a lot of people don’t use number / letter hotkeys for modules but is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I’ve submitted an in game bug report as well. This is driving me crazy.
I use number and letter hotkeys for modules (it’s awesome!) I haven’t run into the issues you describe, but I reassigned all my “F” keys long ago.
I checked with a corp buddy and he’s also having no problem activating modules bound to 1-5 while clicking into the current locations screen.
After removing all my eve files from appdata / documents, reinstalling eve the issue still persists. I’ve had some other odd issues and I’m due for a clean windows install so I’m in the process of doing that now. Fingers crossed a fresh eve install on a fresh OS resolves this one.
I have had the same problem, but it is not new, it has been that way for as long as I can remember.
The problem is especially noticable with the locations window, and it seems to depend on how I name my locations. If I have a location beginning with F then the locations window will intercept the F key and scroll down to the locations starting with F, so F no longer works as a hotkey while the locations window has focus.
Other windows seem to work in a similar way, they intercept some keypresses but which ones vary with context. Only the F1-F12 keys seem to work reliably as hotkeys in all contexts.
Very odd, this has been reliably working for me for the past few years and only just stopped working 1-2 days ago.
I also just tested after having seen your reply and bound my modules to several other keys in an system with only one bookmark. Nothing except F keys and mouse button keys seem to work.
I reinstalled windows and am using a default eve client. Also this location window still disappears every time I relog. I’m baffled that my corp mates who use the same hotkeys are functioning just fine and not having the window disappear. Almost has me thinking this is some cloud based setting tied to my character.
These windows have their own behaviour when it comes to key presses.
The location windows thinks we’re trying to match the name of a location when we type, which is why keybinds are broken when that window is in focus.
This is awful, because I never am looking for names of locations by typing and would wish for FC to remove this setting as it prevents me from my regular action of using modules or ship commands while I interact with bookmarks.
The Dscan window has a similar issue, I think that’s because keypresses there are used to quickly switch between filters. Luckily the dscan window is not used for navigation, so navigational keybinds don’t conflict with that window.
The location windows should NOT block keybinds if you ask me.
FC should remove the search behaviour when that window is in focus, I don’t know if anyone uses it but surely that’s of less importance when interacting with bookmarks than the act of using keys and modules for navigation itself?
