I like that idea.
kinda wish you went the other way and made titan deaths do more damage but all in all this has to be the most neutral change coming in October
At first glance I thought the tethering change would result in a disparate impact on pilots from elite alliances who would not be able to use their faction titans due to the increased risk. However, a reliable informant told me that these pilots are already banned by their FCs from using faction titans if there is any remote risk of losses. So please proceed.
Well done! Wonderful changes.
As someone who lost connection to a supercarrier no less then 3 times at the exact moment a titan died, take my word for it. It had a server performance impact, and no real effect on gameplay. Even if it was turned up to have a higher damage, it might kill a few capitals and that’s about it. Better to remove a lag-inducing mechanic then to buff it as an excuse to keep it.
he said it had about the same impact as a small bombing run… ether your pc has an issue or you’re exaggerating
Found the guy who thinks that lag is caused by a single bug and isn’t the product of multiple processes all consuming a cumulative amount of resources that is greater than the server is able to handle at once.
‘The issiue’ as you put it, is so many ships on grid at once, firing weapons, controlling drones, making movement calculations, being impacted by various effects. Generally speaking, there are three solutions available here:
-
Less actors involved. Less player ships, or drones in the fight, is going to reduce server strain. This one is easy, but players really, really seem to like piling into massive fights, so not exactly practical.
-
More powerful system resources. Again, not really practical, CCP regularly upgrades their hardware, but there are limits, in terms of what the hardware can do, but also what is reasonably affordable.
-
Optimizations to parts of the system, that reduce lag-contributing factors. This is exactly what CCP is doing by eliminating titan death AOE. This is the most practical route of solutions to the problem.
Is this effect being extended to the use of phenomena generators such as the G.T.F.O.? These are also titan-class modules and have the capacity to shape fleet battles.
Suggestion, make emergency energizers only useable on dreads, this would allow fax to be a legitimate primary and bring better balance to dreadbomb usage in titan brawls.
Sure and while we are at it, let’s call them die-machines. IMA-press-FONE-on-my-titan is not real gameplay, you know.
Good stuff CCP!
They are useless on titans anyway.
Idk how big bally it is if they have a citadel to warp to and tether anyways. They can safe up and cloak before jumping out like they have done for years.
Could not agree more.
If it is a significant resource cost during Tidi , why can’t this just be a variable fix. eg.
If Tidi = < 10% disable AOE
Or is this just another typical lazy dev fix… [sigh]
Damage from the explosion of A HUGE battle fortress which bears within itself the weapon of the DOOM this is a very important… logically.
It would be great to apply it to such significant events in the game as the…
destruction of huge objects of huge value.
Since the problem really is… it would be great if Titans and Citadels explosion would inflict damage on ships with a capital size only.
Please do not cut off another branch from our hotly loved tree, let it grow and blossom.
shield slaves when?
the fact is the servers are always going to have issues not alot can be done about that EVE runs on a super computer and even then major fleet battles exceed hardware availability
adding a 64bit client may also help improve performance client side by allowing the program to use more then 4gb of ram. and Multi core support
So while we are at it, when does the Leviathan get a 500% rof bonus for citadel cruise missiles, torpedoes and rapid jesus launchers?
All turret based titans can shoot things, the Caldari don’t. Why is that??
