Recently made or brand new omega accounts still on the 15 day starter packs that all new accounts get, do not get this new omega reward. The only reward is offered is the greatly inferior 15 day starter pack rewards.
You are omega but won’t get the 150k free SP because you’re offered the starter pack instead. Surely this is not right?
I didn’t know there’s a 15 day new player log-in gift event happening, that’s very cool. The only log-in event I know about is for Omega accounts.
Hopefully the 15 day new player gift event will help new player retention be longer than a couple days, especially if that event remains active so that all future new players will receive starter gifts on their first 15 days in Eve.
This graph from CCP for new player retention was presented in EVE Down Under 2019 - Beyond The Friendship Machine. It shows over 90% of new players quit the game within the first 7 days.
There’s not a ‘15 day event’ happening. All new accounts receive this. It’s just some minor rewards, including a total of 50k sp.
Because of this 15 day thing not stacking with todays new omega rewards, new accounts won’t be able to claim the 150k free SP or any of the new omega rewards from this weeks new event. Even if you are omega.
It’s probably a glitch that the 15 day new player rewards overwrites the event that started today.
Well, I can understand the gripe about not getting the same SP reward. I figure this Omega log-in event is set up more for older players who are probably training up long skills
I really don’t see how you could possibly reach that conclusion. It is set for omega accounts, to encourage people to go omega. Has nothing to do with being set up for older players with long skills.
If you’re on a new account and go omega for the rewards, you won’t get them.
I redeemed them earlier as I just logged in quickly to do something, then logged out. Logged into my accounts again just now, and couldn’t find them anywhere so came here.
Just checked my augmentations on my Character Sheet, sure enough, the booster applied immediately.
Just heard this in my earphones:
“This is CCP Radio and the hits just keep coming!!” Liked your 20% nerf to shield/armor resistance modules?? HAW HAW HAW!!! How’d you like your synth booster being automatically started when you redeemed it?? HAW HAW HAW HAW!! Oh, pleeze, stop it! Yer killin’ me devs!! HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW!!! Geez, I haven’t seen anything this funny in a long, long time. HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW…"
I’d be incredulous but I’ve become numb to the lunacy that dominates the decision making from CCP nowadays.
The new account daily login reward system works the same way. As you claim rewards, you make progress towards a SP reward. Fill up the bar, get the SP as a reward as well.
A lot of people are complaining about the daily login rewards, so I just wanted to say that I love free stuff (especially free unallocated SP). Of course, execution for today could have been less… stupid. Like, it would have probably been better for the reward to be straight up useless (i.e. a lore trinket), than for it to look like it was poorly thought out. I know it seems like we will complain about anything, but perceptions of developer incompetency tend to set players off. And, as I’m sure you guys are already aware, you’ll also have to make sure that rewards don’t negatively impact the economy or balance (or NES sales).
Alright, I know this is turning into a wall of text, but I have to talk about Warframe’s daily login reward system. In short, I think it’s brilliant, and that it might be able to provide some inspiration.
TL:DR Digital Extremes (1) made their daily rewards system aesthetically appealing, (2) make crappy rewards seem less crappy because you’re always making progress towards a great milestone reward, (3) use it to encourage longer play sessions, (4) use it to serve ads/coupons to players in way that doesn’t piss them off.
First off, Digital Extremes (DE) found a way to seamlessly transition from login screen, to daily reward screen, to in game. It’s slick, but not critical. (sorry, no video).
The rewards for most days are randomized, with a chance to get better rewards based upon “level”. Now, the bulk of the rewards are so small as to be inconsequential (i.e. a small amount of common resources), but other rewards can range from okay to amazing. The milestone rewards, for example, tend to be really good (and are guaranteed). And DE put in a little timeline, where you can see upcoming milestones. So, even if today’s reward sucks, you can still be happy about making progress towards that milestone.
Now, on top of that, there are two other things that they did that I think was smart. First, some of the rewards include time limited boosters. This encourages players to spend more time in the game than they otherwise might, in order to get the most out of their booster while they can. For example, I might login with the sole intention of collecting the daily reward and managing my “industry,” get a booster, and decide that maybe I should go grind some credits or resources while I have the booster. It also probably helps drive booster sales by giving stingy F2P players a taste of the goods.
Second, they sometimes award time limited (48 hours) coupons for their premium currency. Now, I’m willing to bet that most players get annoyed by seeing monetization related popups. However, since DE integrated them into the reward system, players don’t seem to mind. I mean, even if they don’t use the coupon, they’re still making progress towards that next milestone. Also, I’m pretty sure that the coupons aren’t random. Like, if I take a break and come back, I’ll start seeing a bunch of coupons after having been back for 2 or 3 days. My guess is that they looked at the metrics and found that returning players were more likely to spend. So, I think that they weighted the chances of coupons appearing during that time.
And, for the sake of other players that might read this, I am not proposing that CCP introduce Isk boosters, or copy the system exactly. I just thought that it was an example of a daily reward system done right, and that it might be able to provide some inspiration.
