I am not personally worried about what the reward is, it is how players can use it, that I think is more important.
Take this fine example:
(this the second one, but the first one, too be fair, I had no idea where it was …I just thought after so many years it was another ccp bug, or maybe some whacked idea. turns out second one it is.)
No explanation at the redeeming screen that it will be activated automatically. Just a side note at the end saying “you might not notice it” and yeah sure… that worked perfectly.
Is it bug, where is it, is it still in the redeeming system, looking for it, oh yeah of course it is activated … after settling down for a bit of fun during a pandemic, so yeah its not the way you treat your player base, or entice new players with this abstract immediate reward without prior notice. it just makes it pointless, and like real life at the city office. painful and frustrating.
I’m pretty sure when people login, they don’t just jump right into space (unless well they are already in space and like (of which you cannot redeem anything anyway in game)
Either way seems not used to its full fun potential and maybe not hitting the mark of what I believe they are trying to achieve, I don’t have any facts and figures, so who knows.
A better approach perhaps would be: more explanation, less frustration - like saying, hey this will activate immediately, you got 14 days, just don’t redeem it until you are ready for some “fun”, you know the reason why you logged in today to play this game.
there are many ways they could of done this, development aside, it could of activated when you left the dock station or structure, it could of been redeemed directly to your profile and had an activate button on the augmentation panel, that counted down like 24 hours or something from redeeming, then once activated you get your biology’s worth. much easier to just have a good explanation message.
Some of the rewards of the past were great, loved the gecko’s, some are just for the cargo container of random you have played too long eve stuff, it all has value, I still remember the snowballs, that also melted,… now we have some that don’t. go figure.
The idea of a skin with a limited time injected into your profile (which i guess was to prevent trading limited time skins which would be somewhat funny), should be matched to the players skills, that well they can actually use it.
Everyone likes free stuff, and we all want it to have a value in this game, but that value does not need to always be transferable isk (I like unallocated skill points too, it is capitalist game after all.) as long as it could be used by the player in the time which is given, otherwise, maybe less gifts of “value to someone” and more fundamental game fixes.
