I’m not paying for the game. Haven’t paid in at least 6 years, and I’m Omega all that time. Other players are paying for my subscription.
I don’t speak for or against CCP on this. Don’t care. They’re a business and they do what they want to do however I feel about it, I’m not on their board. My opinion stands on its own merit, but depending on whether I agree with someone or not it will be interpreted as pro- or contra-CCP. Which is nonsensical.
What I think is – 20 eur per month for a game subsription is not a large amount of money. Given the cost of everything else in life, I don’t understand the problem. It’s entertainment. Look at concert tickets, movie tickets, or how much a night out at a bar costs these days. 20 eur per month is a small tiny amount. Sure, it’s relative. For some people it might be a bigger issue. But for everybody earning their own monthly paycheck, I don’t see how this is a large sum in the Western world today.
Why is it that the biggest whiners on the forums are invariably people who….when you look at their Killboard…you find no evidence that they have ( as in your case ) logged in for over 9 years.
It’s a consistent theme on this forum. Again and again. The people who whine the least are those who are regularly active in the game on the character they post here on.
For me its less about the price. Balance changes have killed the play style / earnings for my limited hours. Its feeling less valuable for me too.
My reasons are similar but also different. If I can no longer fund my PVP/ambitions due to balance changes, the fun goes way down. (Couple this with a sub price increase - it gets worse).
Life goes on. He’s entitled to share his opinion as much as you try to denigrate it. What I will say, recent movements make it very clear who CCP want playing their game and who they dont.
Whoever is forced using the “base price” of 20 EUR should not be playing EVE and get their life sorted…or stay at Alpha as long as that condition holds.
I pay roughly 6-7 EUR a month with all the saving options activated. But you need to be able to fork out at once and then live with the subscription for 2 years.
I am sorry. I found it absurd to pay 20 EUR a month. And that would make me really upset if that was the case. No need to get angry. I just wanted to point out the extremes. There are many many price points in between.
This I have to agree with. I can afford to sub by the yr. Didn’t mind paying CCP $ to kill high value targets. Now… No because there are any hardly left or they hide behind a wall CCP created.
I started playing Eve in 2005 and still play with the same group of people. I left the game for a few years but decided to come back. I like many of the changes and understand the need for Alpha and Omega accounts. But the price has become outrageous for Omegas with the cheapest rate to date being $11 USD or $15.33 CAD plus tax, if you commit to a two year subscription. As a Canadian I get charged in USD, however, my US friend get charged in Euros. How does this make sense? In order to do missions and solo mining effectively, I have 3 accounts. Now we’re talking $45.99 plus taxes a month because there is no discount for additional accounts. I make good money but $ 558/year, discounted priced, to play a game once or twice a week? That’s not happening. And Alpha is not even worth playing. I was looking forward to the Pioneer as an Alpha so I could at least be productive in Alliance Mining Ops, but CCP nurfed it so bad for Alphas that it’s barely better than the Venture. I named my Pioneer “Great Idea Poor Execution”. I can’t even run level 4 missions. Sorry CCP, but treating Alpha that poorly is not an incentive to over pay for a game.
I do think it doesn’t stack with the bulk discount though, which you already took into account for your calculations.
Personally I find paying 3 accounts a bit much too. But where a second account unlocks various options you cannot do solo, anything past 2 accounts is usually just ‘more of the same’ so my solution is not to pay for it. 2 is a good number for me.
And if I ever wanted to scale up, the game allows players to fund extra Omega alts with PLEX, which should be a bit easier to do if you have that many alts.
CCP Games removed access to Level 4 missions for Alpha clone accounts to combat widespread botting and real-money trading (RMT) activities.
The change, implemented as part of the March 2019 update, was a security measure to protect the in-game economy. Bot runners were using numerous free Alpha accounts to farm these missions constantly and with zero effort, generating large amounts of ISK (the in-game currency) and LP (Loyalty Points)
Yeah, bots have always been a problem, but there has to be a way to counter the bots or validate the Alpha. Maybe one Alpha account could be played for every Omega paid for, at least the IPs would match up. That would be a great option for the budget minded.
Honestly if L4s are all youre running paying by PLEX is the way to go. Pay for one account and then PLEX the other two. If you know how to make isk its a pittance. Then if you know how to save isk bank up for the PLEX deals. Alternately if youre like me youll swap between isk and real dollar deals as market changes occur.
If you were not just casually invested in EVE, you would know about the usual double discounts in the website store and in the ingame store as well as resellers offering discounts on such items, with if you chain them all together (PLEX at reseller with discount → NES gametime supersales) all brings down the cost to around 6$ USD per month. This is just nothing for you if you need it now, but if you were an active EVE player, you would have had plenty of chances for this alone this year.
Also you do realize that you can play for free as an Alpha anytime, right? And that there also is the weekend fleet pass?
