I would love to see the game grow to three times current population but then it would feel too crowded. Granted, there would be more wars and more fights and more market trading, too.
I’m definitely not happy with current player count as it is now or has been the past few years.
Every corporation ( or almost ) is hurting for new blood and I’d like to see more skirmishes in all parts of space but for that there needs to be more players and a CCP who actually cares about the game more than their bottom line.

And I’m not sure how much this might figure in, but as others have stated, eve seems to have lost it’s soul to many of us. At one point, the game hitting 60k online was fun. Some of the gameplay that attracted those kind of numbers is gone now. Maybe the game isn’t as interesting as it used to be?

Of course we have to admit that with a game this old there is some attrition. However, with the amount of time that has gone by they could have iterated a number of systems several times. And CCP by iterate I mean improve not nerf to the ground.

I’m not a veteran by any stretch of the imagination but I nonetheless can feel very keenly that EVE is losing its soul. I read more and more disappointment from players in local and grumbling corp chat about all the silliness CCP is pulling.
According to one random player I read few months ago " CCP is cutting both my arms and shoving 'em up my [censured] "
Was he talking about all the nerfs? Most assuredly. I was shocked and sad to read that in Local. I find what CCP has been doing to EVE very discouraging and sad.

Maybe after playing for a certain amount of time the novelty goes away, sure. But isn’t it up to CCP to make their game more interesting? Isn’t up to CCP to polish and improve their game?
We can blame players all day long ( he’s a carebear who rage-quit because he’s stupid, he’s a noob who’ll never get this game, he’s a whale feck him, he’s a bad ganker who wants targets on a silver platter, she has no business playing a man’s game…) but ultimately, it entirely CCP’s fault for not giving the tools to groom new players, for not supporting emergent gameplay, for not fostering an environment and providing the means wherefore players can let their base instincts lose, for not making sure everything works properly and as intended, for not getting rid of botters and so on and so forth…

When I started playing in 2008, the game and the playerbase was growing in leaps and bounds. The game expansions were big and released about 6 to 9 months apart. That allowed players time to acclimate themselves to the changes and if needed, rebound / recoup from those changes if they got negatively hit.

I think it was around 2012 when CCP started releasing expansions on shorter time intervals. I think that’s basically when player numbers started to drop. As time went on, the game patch / expansion release intervals have become shorter and shorter to where now things are being changed on a weekly basis. Hell, for a while now I’ve been noticing the Launcher seems to download a new patch almost everyday.

I think the fact that CCP constantly keeps changing everything is one of the major reasons for the loss of players. Whether you agree or not, most people like things to be somewhat stable so they can make various plans and follow through with those plans.

However when things are constantly being changed, sometimes just for the sake of change, you can’t really set up a game plan and follow it through to completion. That basically stops you from advancing in that intended plan so you refocus your attention onto something else, make a new plan and start following it. Then lo and behold CCP turns around and does a bunch more changes, thus making your new game plan obsolete.

And as that cycle continues happening, it get’s to the point where people start thinking this game is a futile endeavor, a complete waste of time. They start off taking little breaks, log in less and less to where eventually they just stop playing. Meanwhile CCP continues changing old stuff while adding some new stuff that they sensationalize to bring in new players. And because of the constant changes, it’s a lot easier for new players with little time invested to walk away from the game compared to older players who hang on hoping for positive game developments. However over time due to various changes, the older players have also been slowly leaving the game as well. It’s no wonder the player count is bleeding out.

I think going back to big expansions done on longer time intervals would help retain players. More time invested in the game before being adversely affected by new changes makes new players less willing to walk away. Also having more time between game changes allows all players time to acclimate to the new changes and if needed, bounce back and re-establish themselves from those changes.

I’ll accept that for the illustrative purpose used. But as a papered chef and kitchen manger of twenty plus years, it is over simplified to the point of meaningless.

Maybe I’ll toy around with it; good idea… I have a alpha alt designed for it

Actually, it’s getting its soul back. Also that 60k wasn’t an actual number, that was purposely hyped up, the actual realistic number was much lower. And around that time the game was far worse from a cut throat pvp sandbox pov.

The number of players doesn’t somehow depict how good an MMO is, if it’s a niche MMO. The people who quit because because they can’t grind/afk/zombie/bot their way to riches any more are not going to be missed by anyone because, for the most part, those folks didn’t actually interact anyway. They didn’t add anything to the game other than fcking up the economy.

What they did add - and this is the only thing that matters in the end - is income for the company making the game.

All you people loudly cheering as CCP steadily loses players are actually cheering for the end of EVE.

Be careful what you wish for. Even banned players can’t seem to stop hanging around the forum all day, every day. What are you going to do when there is no forum to lurk in? No game to occasionally log in to? No third party discords to rage in?

EVE does just fine income wise, it did fine back then when player numbers were low (but still on the rise) and now with plex, skins, injectors and whatnot I bet they’re doing better than they ever have.

This forum, GD anyway, is a giant shitheap that’s even worse than Scrapheap Challenge ever was. I’d LOVE for the forums to go omega only so all the aspies who haven’t played in years are stopped from vomiting their nonsense all over it.

The irony of you shitting all over the people that post on the forum you spend most of your waking hours posting on is not lost on me.

Not actually replying to the content of my post is kinda telling. How are you on this last word thing btw?

Seems you like to smell sh!t then because if it was as bad as you say you wouldn’t be here posting.

This forum isn’t a giant shitheap, it’s just that sometimes the members get carried away and let themselves be lead by emotions or stupidity. That’s all.
That’s what you get when you deal with human beings. We’re not perfect, we’re not machines and we can be extreme sometimes but by golly I’d rather have that than this

and this

If you didn’t accept it, could you remove my post?

Sorry, I don’t know what a ā€œpapered chefā€ is. I looked on Google and Wikipedia but all I found was ā€œpampered chefā€

If it was meaningless you couldn’t have accepted it ā€œfor the illustrative purposes usedā€, could you now?

But anyways, you’re pretty finicky to target illustrative speech put nonchalantly at the end of a post.
Talk about splitting hair here. But I know you didn’t post your response just to tell me you’d accept that last sentence to a post you liked.
I’m even doubting you like the post. I think you just hit the heart for my attention so I’d read your reply.
But it’s ok. If that is the only thing I have to complain about today then I’m happy.

The words appear to be English. Perhaps you could rearrange them so they make some sense.
