"Only fly what you can afford"

That may be true in case of combat ships but holds little ground when it comes to Mining ships and especially Barge to Exhumer progression. The latter are simply better T1s. Skiff is by no mean more specialized than Procurer - It’s just general upgrade. Also from game perspective it only takes bit over a month to train a toon to fly an Exhumer. Two if we include tank and drone training. Hardly anything I’d consider more than intermediate miner. I agree with the others when it comes to the motto though

Only fry what you can afford to eat. So like Snickers, Twinkies… cheese.

LOL, where does the violence come into it? How would one violently steal from a corp wallet? or did you type it for dramatic effect?

A trillion isk theft is a large amount, In large alliances i believe Titans are built partly through labour, If the alliance has a vast mining fleet the resoruce for a Titan can be mined pretty quick.

To me “only fly what you can afford to lose” means fly what you can easily replace. So instead of struggling to get the Vargur continue with the Fleet Tempest till you have over 3 billion in your wallet and then purchase the Vargur.

If your earning time in Eve is limited then a heavy loss could send you back to square one.

This.

The Golden Rule is there for peoples own protection from themselves.

If you lose everything in one mistake, you will hate yourself and project that onto hating EVE.

Very few people can sustain motivation after a catastrophic loss, especially when deep down, you know it was your own fault.

Its not advice about EVE being dangerous.
Its advice that you are infact yourself your own worst enemy.

Not just that, for instance I lost most of my stuff in our WH when RL interfered with my EvE time and my POS ran out of fuel. Basically ■■■■ happens, you either sulk or see it as a challenge to recover from.

Know your own mindset and only take risks in accordance with the losses you are willing to accept.

Kindred spirit, I feel your pain.
I wrapped a Golem around a war target’s dickstar in a bourbon fueled frenzy of Quixotian glee once myself.
Ah, good times.

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with you there.
The Skiff is significantly more specialized than the procurer, as it is designed to be far more survivable than it’s t1 counterpart. It sports a battleship level tank, and can field a sickening amount of drone damage as a deterrent to casual attempts to kill it. It flies like a cruiser as well and tends to swim in schools.

If you are paying any level of attention to your surroundings it is a superior ship for mining, as you can either GTFO or murder the everliving crap out of your potential aggressors with it… your choice.

right, but that is just what was easily stolen, imagine how much more isk/assets are in various subcorps, and character wallets.

I’m not even in a mega group, and I could afford a few titans or a bunch of supers myself. but I don’t really want to throw that much isk at any one fight.
