A jammed drone loses what it was doing… and drones have some hilariously low jam resistance. You don’t need to jam the orca itself. Just the drone. And you can slam up to five meta ECM jammers on a single frigate. Throw in a couple meta boosters in the lows and a couple rigs on a griffin and you basically can break the drone locks of up to five orca for the low price of roughly 1 million ISK.
Yeah they can come back and re-acquire their drone with a command and then command it to mine again. But that requires being at the keyboard. If it really is some totally AFK bot aspirant… congrats you just wasted an hour or so of their entire fleets time for around five million ISK. That is chump change.
CCP specifically made them mining vessels so that they had something to do alongside boosting.
So… CCP intended them to be able to mine. And therefore anticipated this sort of potential.
Boosted hulks mine more so they are sacrificing some yield for safety.
Now you have my attention. I don’t do pvp, but if it ain’t nalied down … ?
Would this ecm malarkey you mention free-up the mining drones? I know there used to be a convoluted way to bump hulls and warp out the drones to beyond command-range. Or whatever. But have never heard of anyone doing it recently. Is this still valid / can it be done with your alphas idea?
EDIT: missed this …
OK. Got this. Is there a way to then recover the drones and make off with the swag?
I think you can boosh them out of command range and then scoop them. You would need a Command Destroyer with the Micro Jump Field Generator fitted. This is done often in nul sec getting Excavators.
I used to use orca to mine in hisec
In fact, the drones of Orca dont fly very fast, so you gotta hug the rock you are taking a bite on. Which means changing your position every couple of hours even for moon belt. So it’s not as bad as the OP sees it. Yes, they are tough, but they can barely put up a fight and they move tremendously slow
I hear from carebear apologists all around the forums that ganking is extremely easy (probably easier than AFK mining), completely risk free, with zero consequences and at zero cost! And I don’t think they lie, they tell us they are the good people and the victims here.
What we should do right now is make highsec more safe for this Orca miners, because it is too easy to gank them. If it was more “challenging” to gank them, it would be “more interesting” and “better content” so more people would do it. You can’t deny the logic in this.
As soon as the ship is out of drone control range,
they’re yours for the taking. Jamming alone doesn’t stop them from controlling them.
You didn’t hear of anyone doing it in recent times,
because most people who play such stuff already quitted.
Btw, a Stabber is sufficient for bumping, though a Tornado gets the job done better. The Tornado provides the best value for the buck compared to a Machariel or a Stabber.
You should read through the thread properly.
There’s more ways than ganking.
In fact, most people can not just gank an orca. I know you’re doing sarcasm, but it’s really unnecessary. You need to get some distance again. All the hateful, toxic shitters are affecting you so strongly it makes you post garbage when it’s not necessary. You’re only feeding the assholes with that, which is exactly what they want: Turning normal people into bitter, hateful mirror images of themselves.
Look through the thread! People are actually interested in how to deal with the Orcas.
This should be celebrated and supported and not ruined with sarcasm!
I’ll run home, get a porpoise, try to mine a rock and remove the lock after I issue the mining order and edit this post with the result so I can tell you for sure one way or another.
They do continue to mine repeatedly without the lock.
I mean ‘run home’ as in ‘move my in game butt to my home base where all my ships are’. Don’t worry, I am totally being a responsible adult here, and I’ve got your answer, too.
