Well…this thread certainly contains the full recommended daily allowance of stupid.
quit crying, grab an orca and 2 procs or skiffs fitted for tank and ice mining, boost the barge/exhumers and you will find you can wipe out the rocks before those orcas can even get thru half of them. lazy bastards
“From what i’m told” So you’re offering advice on something that you yourself have no idea about.
There’s one simple change that would resolve afk orcas completing anomalies. It’s something that should have been considered when the 185k ore hold was added.
It’s fine for orcas to hold 185k m3 of ore. But reduce the ore bay to 30k and increase the corp hangar to 185k m3 instead. That way you can only afk mine in an orca 30k m3 of ore. Not nearly 200k.
You’d have to manually move the ore from the ore hold to the corp hangar or afk mining will cease to function after around 25 minutes of being afk.
CCP came out against people afking drone ships in anomalies for hours because it was pure afk isk, the equivalent of botting. Mining orca with near 200k m3 ore hold achieves the same effect.
Increase corp hangar to nearly 185k and reduce ore hold to 30k. Hours long AFK mining orcas problem solved.
Oh, I found it quite amusing.
I did get something useful, the suggestion of using a Tornado for bumping. I’ll have to practice my bumping this weekend.
You can’t compare having tons of barges to Orcas.
When the Orcas warp in, they lock up 5 rocks, and put 1 mining drone on each rock, and then go AFK for hours until their ore hold is full. This is low attention, low engagement gameplay.
Even simpler: Just turn off auto-repeat on mining drones.
Exactly. See my idea above. They should reduce Orca ore hold to 30k m3 and increase corp hangar bay to 185k instead. Solves the problem of hours long afk mining orcas.
Except now the Orca’s are a much better hauler because you gave them a much larger fleet hanger. Changes have impacts other than intended.
More EHP than Freighter too.
Yeah i thought someone would say this. A freighter holds around 1 mill m3. Ore with 185k fleet hangar doesn’t compare.
But it is triple what a DST can carry. And close to a tanked JF.
And it does it with fewer downsides than a freighter does as well.
Ok here’s another idea. Split the orca ore hold into two. An active ore hold and a storage hold. Mined ore goes the active ore hold, which is smaller, about 20-30k m3. The storage ore hold is 180k m3 and holds only ore.
The player needs to be present to move the ore from the active hold to the storage ore hold.
Now that’s a boost to the orca, it holds more ore than before and a nerf to afk mining.
MJD too I think.
Don’t forget that it can fit a 500MN MWD which allows it to one-cycle into warp. You get around extremely fast with an Orca compared to a freighter.
Just take away the orcas drone mining bonus and/or improve rats aggression against drones.
Lolz, there are Ice systems EVERYWHERE, go find another one or wait 4hrs and mine that Ice belt after it’s respawned, and quit your bitchin lolz. OR… go sub and train 20 of your own orcas…
Oh, yes, it does. The point being made is if you swap the fleet and ore holds around you lose the current transport limitations on the orca.
Using round numbers, freighter only holds 1 mil m3 if fitted with three cargoholds. Which means it will align in around 40 sec and maybe have 200 k EHP. If that.
Orca holds 33 k cargo, plus 40 k fleet, plus 187 k ore. Doesn’t compare. But it also aligns in 12 sec and can maybe have 350 k EHP. Which also does not compare.
With your idea the orca would swap to 33 k cargo plus 187 k fleet. At that point you can ignore its additional 40 k specialist ore hold. This simply because fleet holds are general-cargo by definition. That means you would now have a regular transport capacity of the orca which is a quarter of a freighter but at quarter the align time and also twice the EHP. Plus, you would still have the additional 400 k m3 to haul built ships in the orca. Which a freighter cant do. That would effectively create a whole new transport class.
The only way for your idea to work is if it was a “fleet ore” hold ie still specialist by nature.
Do you really buy it? Because i don’t.
Giving support ship mining bonuses… Clearly they had something different in mind.
