The issue is not the orca mining in high-sec the issue is ccp allow’s as many accounts as the player feels their suped out comp/comps can handle, to log in and abuse the game mechanics. maybe ccp should lower the amount of omega accounts you can log in with at one time. Lets say five max for shits and giggles. An easy fix if i’m being honest, but we all know ccp will never impliment something so controversial.
Rubbish, if anything the Orca is under-powered in terms of yield, it is not so much that the ship is out of balance but the roids thrown up by moons and ice are too big and enables this AFK play.
Normal belts and hisec anomalies have such small roids that you cannot AFK mine, so this only applies to moon belts and ice, so the simple way to affect him if this is moon mining is to war dec the holding corp and destroy the Athanor on the moon and note where he goes and keep doing it. The power is in your hands apart from ice of course.
PS for those who have no idea about the Orca I did a long exchange in the past about the mining yield of Orca’s and its real use in mined belts I found that a tanked Skiff seriously out-mined it. The issue pure and simple is that the roids being so big enable people to park AFK next to it. When used in belts in a used system they are not overpowered in any sense of the word.
The best thing to do is reduce the size of moon roids and have more of them, problem solved and only idiots cannot work that out!
OK, first off it takes more than two hours to fill an orca hold using just drones. With let’s say for the sake of argument, 200k ore hold, and a wing of augmented mining drones mining 1500m3/min ('cos t2 mining drone rigs), also working on the assumption that they’re mining a point source of infinite density so they don’t have to perform a wide orbit and can mine the same rock with zero travel time between rock and ship…
200k/1.5k=133 minutes.
MINIMUM.
Add travel time between rock and orca, moving from rock to rock, reassigning drones, pulling them in when rats show up… you’re looking at more like 4-5 hours. Practical experience mining the same spod rock tells me 5 hours is a ballpark time to fill an orca providing you have rat cover.
(and where I mine, going AFK isn’t an option anyway, when you have sentient supercarriers, officer battleships, Drifters and neuts blowing through the system all looking for easy targets, all day long).
Shall we talk tank fits?
OK. Brick tank with active shield, gets you probably 430-500k ehp on paper (depends on whether you want to spend 30mill on a fit or 600mill). The downside is you sacrifice yield. Pick one: yield or tank.
It only takes 133 Minutes to mine 200k of ore, afk, without any need to do anything at all,
and you think you’re making a point for the afk mining in an Orca?
Travel time isn’t really an argument either. Can be minimized using proper bookmarks at the right spots, quite easily. Combined with a higgs rig it is tremendously easy to just snail through a belt.
You sound like a Farmer.
In case you are: CCP wants to get rid of you. Rightfully so.
It doesn’t even make sense, because the roids grow over time .
He makes a general statement about the state of all roids in the game.
Fair enough, many roids are small due to the roids being mined, but many as well aren’t. In the end all it takes is pointing each mining laser at a different roid. Suddenly each roid takes [amount of mining lasers] times as long to mine a single roid while the ore output is still the same.
Also, why does this need to be mentioned?
It’s common sense.
The Orca isn’t underpowered for what it offers.
There’s zero point in correcting him, he’s already harming himself well enough. It really isn’t like there’s a magical amount of people who will find exactly his post believing anything he writes, unless he shared his viewpoints, bias and perspective anyway.
Can we please stop continuously feeling offended when some random questionable person says something that we can use to engage with that person? It’s dumb as ■■■■.
AFK gameplay should never result in gain. It’s how you end up with skewed MAUs and a broken mineral market. I’m of course speaking only to orcas, and not about the separate issue of Rorquals.
It makes economic sense to take 20 orcas out and leave them in a belt. They’re effectively safe on account of Concord.
The solution, however, is simple and would take VERY little effort to implement.
Mining drones and excavators should be controlled exactly like fighters. ■■■■, all drones should be controlled like fighters.
I actually had an idea WRT Orca/Rorqual mining a couple weeks ago that came to me when I was thinking about excavator drones:
Giving this idea further thought, I began to wonder if it would be a better idea for all mining drones to function this way instead of their current role as tiny independent mining lasers.
I have no idea if this change would be good or workable, but I’m sure it would curtail the glut of AFK mining Industrial Command Ships that is apparently afflicting EvE without reducing them to uselessness. Any constructive feedback you all could give me would be appreciated.
Excuse me? It generates ore, which in turn generates minerals and reaction materials that can be used to create modules, hulls, and components, all of which can be sold for ISK; ore, minerals, materials, finished products, everything. Mining may not generate ISK directly, but making a blanket statement that it “doesn’t generate ISK” is being disingenuous, and I’ll thank you to refrain from such behavior.
I’m sure we all needed your genius intellect to get into the technicality that mining does not actually generate isk. Nobody realised until you revealed this truth.
First of all I did not see what Karak wrote because I have him blocked, his posts are utterly worthless and inane. I of course note that you decided to do your little yap dog, he said she said ■■■■■ slap thingy at me, so pathetic.
Moon roids are massive in terms of amount, and you can almost fill up an Orca’s cargo hold with one on it’s own, you cannot do that with belt roids. This enables AFK mining with an Orca, simple isn’t it and yet you seem to think the size of the roids has nothing to do with it.
I should also pont out that I was also talking about an Orca, you point the mining drones at the roids you do not point the mining lasers at the roids as you incorrectly suggested, do you even read what you are typing?
