Pacifist Option

I fully expect people to whine and complain about this concept; however, CCP, why not add a Pacifist option for players? A toggle or in-game command, something that can turn PvP status on or off, maybe give it a cool down or a timer that doesn’t allow you to activate more than xx amount of days, so people can’t just spam it on and off when they want. There are games like that out in the world. I know the argument is going to be “it’s a PvP game.” Still, lots of people in this world and of the 20,000+ players enjoy not having to deal with assholes who attack when you’re doing something peacefully and not interfering with anyone else. There are plenty of PvE options available in the game, and there are tons of PvP options in the game, but some people don’t like to have trolls/griefers/pirates/dicks/whatever the hell you want to call them jump in and destroy their style of fun. I don’t think that idea would be tough to implement; adding a couple of lines of code, perhaps, shouldn’t be too difficult (I’m not a coder, so maybe there is more to it), but I still feel it should be doable. What are your thoughts, CCP?

I don’t think this is something that’s stuck behind coding. It’s a conceptual question and whether it is compatible with the whole design of EVE Universe.

Every single aspect of this game is PvP, from collecting resources so you can build to putting what you build on the market. All that stuff you buy off the market was put there by another player.

Tell us why you should be allowed to participate in every form of PvP except ship combat.

It is stupidly easy to play Eve with no risk, you just have to fly smart.

I believe ‘EVE-scout’ are pacifists.

Try joining them if you like that sort of gameplay?

Of course by being a pacifist you don’t stop others from attacking you, but many people leave EVE-scout players alone as they know they’re not a threat.

Pacifism is possible in EVE, but as a social construct in an MMO based on reputation, not because of some mechanical ‘opt-out-of-PvP’ button.

Well, I hate to say this but you’re wrong on both of those statements…

Not every single aspect of this game is PvP, most notably is Project Discovery… Other examples would be Blueprint manufacturing, research, and invention jobs… Planetary Industry is another one… There’s also other examples such as running Agent missions… Even though PvP can happen while engaging in that content, I don’t consider it to be PvP content…

Now on to the next statement… Not everything on the Market is put there by players… Most importantly are Skillbooks… Granted there are Skillbooks being sold by players but initially all Skillbooks originate from NPC Corps… Same goes for all the various different Trade Goods like Spiced Wine, Dairy Products, etc… Yes some are sold by players but there’s actually a PvE Trade Industry run entirely by NPC Buy / Sell Market orders…

Despite all of that, I do completely agree with your last statement…

Aside from some gankers, most ppl leave us (the standing agency) alone as well, we dont pick fights

I think that’s a difference of definition. And maybe PvP isn’t the best term for it, but BPO research, manufacturing, and planetary industry are all player affecting activities.
Either on the sense of you selling on the market, thereby fueling and competing with other players, or depriving another player of profit and liquidity by providing your own resources for your own projects.

Even Agent missions are heavily Market affecting, they provide an isk fosset, a resource fosset, and a source of specialty items.
Edit: I forgot to add a demand for ships, modules, and ammo. (Unless you’re an Amarr freeloader ;p)

As long as you engage with the gears of the universe , you are engaging in (again, for lack of a better term) pvp.

If someone don’t like this so he don’t like this game. Why would anyone play a game they don’t like?

Minecraft in space? I don’t think so. I say add more combat and cheap wars without a structure.

You have to ask yourself the question, if EVE fundamentally is the right game for you. Because in EVE, everything is structured towards fighting other players. If you don’t like that, then what are you doing here?

Seriously. There are many great alternatives out on the market that will let you experience space like you want. I have tried No man sky recently and I am currently on X4 Foundations, both great games in their own right. If you don’t care about player interaction, then these games will give you all the possibilities and room for creativity that they can.

So instead of farming combat sites for multiple hours and effectively earn 5 cents, you could build an entire empire in X4 and have way more action and fun that way. Just food for thought.

If playing in window mode, the button for ‘Pacifist Option’ is in the top right corner, it is shaped like an X.

Without conflict I’m out of business. I sell to that one and I sell to the one they’re shooting at. I’m basically the Lord of War in EvE, I don’t take part in the fights I just supply them. :+1:

No they’re not… Whatever happens with the product after engaging in that content is a different issue… The actual act of engaging in that content is PvE, not PvP…

lol, that is just ludicrous, trying to project that as PvP…

Running Agent missions is strictly PvE, it has no affect on anybody else and once again, whatever happens after engaging in that content is a different issue…

If I understand the OP correctly, I could turn my pacifist flag on, and then afk mine or autopilot my freighter to Jita totally safe from other player’s interference, then when I wanted to “interfere” with other people. I could flip it back on?

So I can be invulnerable when it suits me?

If implemented this idea would destroy everything about EvE that I enjoy.

No sir, I don’t like it.

(edited cus I spel gud)

You can go pacificist style, but you need a peace pass. They are on sale now for just 100 million isk! Let me know how many you need and I will get yours ready!

Then go play those. And leave one of the very few ones that aren’t like that to the people who like it that way.

Command Centers anyone ?

I feel like you’re so blinded by those 3 letters that you are willfully ignoring my point. Or maybe I just overcomplicated it.

But that “whatever happens after” is just pointless, it doesn’t justify your point because your actions don’t happen in a vacuum.

It’s been long time for CCP to add some blueprints for command centers already.

Actually it’s you who’s blinded by thinking everything in this game is PvP…

It’s not pointless to say ‘whatever happens afterwards is a different issue’ because it’s a fact, the parameters of the content will be changed…

I forgot how much nitpicking is done on these forums so I’ll be more specific… Doing research on a Blueprint in an NPC station is PvE… Nobody else can interfere with it and it doesn’t affect anybody else in the game…

However if you do that job in a Player Structure, that could be viewed as PvP…

Now if you sell the Blueprint, you’ll be engaging in Trade which changes the content as well as the parameters from PvE to PvP…

Anyway, the bottom line is there’s both PvE and PvP content in this game, to say otherwise is factually wrong…
