CCP announced a new ice mining destroyer, the Perseverance.
Instead of adding the ship in the regular mining lineup with a normal blueprint original or T2 inventable copy this new ship is a ‘limited edition’ obtained through some limited time winter event.
The introduction of such a ‘limited’ new ship should create a hype I guess? To me such a stunted addition to the mining lineup creates a different feeling though:
Severe disappointment.
Why?
Why limited?
What a terribly bad idea.
Just give the ship a proper production line please.
I welcome a new limited edition ship. We need more ships that are ‘limited’ but also more readily available. AT ships are very limited, but those are out of reach of 99.99% of the players. They are practically useless, nobody undocks them or fights with them. They’re just one insanely expensive piece of hangar decoration.
But this sounds something like a Leopard or an Interbus Shuttle. Limited, but still available hulls. And not with a retarded price tag that makes them non-undockable. I’m seeing that this hull will be plenty available, with a higher price tag, but still something you can fly around with. So, I welcome this. We need more hulls like this.
I thought it to be a dumb oversight that the new destroyers had no access to ice mining lasers, but with the announcement of the Perseverance this lack of ice mining appears to have been intentional.
I’m just really disappointed that the new ice mining ship, an upgrade to the Endurance and crucial part of the mining ship lineup is some stunted hangar ornament ‘limited edition’ ship without proper industrial supply.
The existence of the dark pattern of FOMO time-limited events is bad enough in the game, but I did not expect CCP would go so low as to use this to source new ships.
AT ships require excellent PvP skills to procure. The Perseverance will likely require excellent reward-track completion skills to procure. How rare they will be remains to be seen.
The real question is: who will have the courage to undock a paper-thin industry ship that costs half a Raiju?
Some of them will simply end up being collector’s items, gathering binary dust until the servers close.
Nothing wrong with ships that ‘require acutal gameplay to acquire’, all ships are like that: someone mines ore, another invents blueprints and a third (or all the same person) builds the ship with those inputs, which then gets hauled to the target destination where you can buy it with ISK that you earned through actual gameplay.
That’s EVE’s gameplay cycle and it’s a good one. It’s what this game is built upon.
Ships spawned out of thin air when people grind the correct amount of points aren’t what I think is a good direction for EVE to take.
EVE has a good gameplay basis of building ships with blueprints based on minerals mined by miners. Letting players earn one particular new ship only during one temporary event is a dark pattern, preys on fear of missing out and undermines the existing industrial mining ship builds.
Which is why I don’t like those career agent rewards either.
But at least those career agents aren’t spawning an entirely new unique ship and aren’t forcing you to log in during a limited few days to obtain the ship, preying on your fear of missing out to manipulate you into logging in to improve player numbers in the christmas days. I seriously dislike dark patterns in games like those.
SoCT ships have their own role as newbie-friendly jack of all trades ships, but aren’t competing with other mining ships for mining roles.
But yes, I do not like either how SoCT ships are spawned out of thin air wherever the player is. If you ask me those ships should be handed out as single-run blueprint copies that players can build even without industrial skills with enough minerals. That should solve it’s insurance problem as well.
You can still obtain it the same way you obtain anything else in EVE. Buy it from someone who did have the time to log in and get it and is willing to sell it…
Alphas cannot mine ice, they’re irrelevant for this topic.
Endurances are strong ice miners, incredibly close to the barges and exhumers. These Perseverances are mining destroyers, supposedly stronger than the mining frigates so if the Perseverance is indeed better at mining ice than the Endurance it’s going to be a crucial ice mining ship.
And if not, the Perseverance is irrelevant and this whole thread is irrelevant.
It’s the only way I’d be OK with this limited version of the addition of the Perseverance: if it’s another useless collector’s ship like the Primae. But that too would be disappointing when it could have been a good useful addition to the mining lineup instead.
Because limited ships have value and it lets them give out things that aren’t available in infinite quantities, we already have a number of ships only available in limited amounts
Gankers have something fun to explode, collectors have something new to collect, everyone is happy, well apart from you
