Personal hangar divisions

Can we get personal hangar divisions? I know I asked for this more than a decade ago, and other people did the same. Can we get it? It would be a great QOL improvement.

What do you think a Station Container is for?

It says so right in the description:
ā€œAlthough the construction of a Station Container is much like that of other Cargo Containers a Station Container is far too big to fit in a ship’s cargo hold and is only used for storage and inventory management at stations.ā€

A station container must be bought or produced at the station that you are going to use it in. Not every station has manufacturing facilities, so you’d have to haul them. 10.000 m3 packaged each. Then you need to transport them to all stations where you want to use them in, assemble each one and name it. There are also functional limitations. You can’t contract an item from inside of the container. If you are far away from the station where the item is, tough luck… you’ll need to travel there just to take that item out of the container before creating a contract. Also, there are some items that can’t go into containers, MTUs being one example.

The only thing that Station Containers are solving is storage at a specific location where you have them or can get them transported there.

Hauling them isn’t really that tough. And you can sometimes find them where you need them.

That’s probably the biggest downside, followed closely by the audit log restrictions. The latter is why I use secure and freight containers for hangar organization unless I really need the massive storage of a station container. I don’t think the 10km3 packaged size presents that much of a logistical problem. You can move five or six station containers in a DST.

That said, I’m doubtful that personal hangar divisions would nicely serve most people’s needs. At least, not if they’re implemented the same as corp hangar divisions. I know I don’t need seven statically defined hangars at every station.

Probably just fixing the ā€œcontract from containerā€ mechanic would be a good-enough solution. Then people could use however many containers they need at any particular station.

You can’t repackage items inside containers too…

They won’t. Those corp hangar divisions are arbitrary and wlll only serve very basic function. If hangar divisions would be implemented, they would have to be unlimited, like folder within a folder structure and everybody can create their own ā€˜ā€˜hangar tree’’ to suit their needs. I am not sure what the limitations are exactly against implementing something like that (does it take up so much space on the server? Is it an indexing issue? Or what?) and why it hasn’t been done.

But then again, I’m not that invested in getting something like that in the game either. I can make do with the can system. It is more logical and life-like and the only downside is the stuff already mentioned.

As long as you don’t exceed a 1000 stacks, you can also use filter tabs to sort your inventory.

I personally would prefer a rework of the container system, so you can contract, repair and repackage items inside containers or move them in and out even remotely. I mean, it’s not like your pilot is ā€œdoing it by handā€ if he is docked there, it’s just a command for the hangar-robots, I see not reason not to be able to give that from any location…

So people could actually use containers to set up any hangar structure they want and still use the items within normally. But, player driven: you have to make sure to get the containers where you need them.

I always forget that feature even exists  … But yeah.. Filters are doing most of the job of hangar divisions.

You can exceed 1000 stacks? Because it does not let me. (I’m playing on a Mac).

na, sry, English isn’t my native language. I meant ā€œas long as you don’t have more than a 1000 stacksā€. (because if you have more, you would need to use containers anyways)
