The skill catalogue is a little bit confusing as is’t all green. green could have been added as a discrimination between you have (blue) ; you don’t have or you have to buy (red) ;and you have the prerequisit for (green); Omega only (yellow) . Anything else but not all green. Thank you
Right.
So it seems like it’s impossible to have transparency without blur while it’s possible with actual UI.
It’s a shame, sometimes vital information is displayed behind a window. with blur, you can’t read it properly…
I know any UI change in the past has been met with vociferous resistance, and so I’d like to start off by saying I generally like the direction of the changes.
There’s a few things I’m having trouble with though, which might be reviewed?
The amount of space taken up by the “+”, “…” lock, minimize, and close buttons on the chat windows are much larger now, and the size of channel names has been compressed as a result. This is making it harder to fit all the chat channels I’m in (only 6 including corp and alliance) into a moderately sized chat window. There’s a HUGE space between the + button and the dropdown menu button, could that space be shrunk?
There also seems to be a lot more dead space in windows and between buttons now, I liked buttons being more packed together, the market window in particular feels like it’s space inefficient.
Window backgrounds are very dark, made more noticeable by the brighter text (I like the text being brighter, that’s making it easier to read now). Some sort of option or slider for brighter backgrounds would be appreciated. I know dark-mode is popular but I don’t need my inventory to be a black hole of light, something to make the windows brighter would be easier on the eyes.
The buttons to change probe formation are very hard to distinguish now. (image: Probe-UI — ImgBB ) I like the sliders and stuff, but the spread formation/pinpoint formation/custom formation buttons are super faint. This is the big one for me, I really hope this gets looked at.
The good:
Brighter text is easier to read–nice
The active window is highlighted with that neon bar, making it much easier to tell which window is “active”. (Maybe I’ll stop spamming V in the chat while trying to dscan now lol)
The overview looks great, still very easy to read.
The standings icons in chat channels look cleaner, I can tell they were changed but can’t put my finger on it. Good change though.
That’s my thoughts so far, hopefully since this is an optional trial feature there won’t be too much of the traditional Eve player outrage and we can get some good feedback and hopefully some tweaks before this goes live to everyone.
Looks like “Station Services” Window cannot be unlocked (had it locked prior to switching to Photon UI Feature Preview, now overlaps with other windows with no obvious way to reposition it)
Hello, as much as I would love to use it unfortunately I can’t change transparency. For me it looks like it is 0%, and moving slider does not change anything. also Light background option does not work.
The new UI seems prety cool. It feels a bit more easier to click on things and “OK” windows. The only thing i have found to be a bit weird is the Chat Blinking seems to have stopped.
Pop-up notifications (messages) in the center of the screen are ignoring transparency configuration
Transparency for windows only work if “blur” option is enabled
“want to” issues:
Chat window with many label needs to be too big to get any of use, as labels are too big with current font size even with 90% UI scaling. Alliance + Corp + Fleet + diplo/recruiting/activity dedicated channel. Suggested improvement: custom label configuration - from label name to label color, so user can name standard (alliance, corp, fleet) with “A”, “C”, “F” and make them blue or whatever color
Local locations looks like a Windows XP window. Man those thick borders are handy.
Bugs-
Station window is bugged if it was locked. My main window stack(market/inventory sometimes others) has become bugged (with or without new UI) and opens every single time I dock/undock/jump. Extremely irritating.
Giant Hit or Miss… Mostly Miss
The new Photon UI has a great design choice compared to the somewhat bland (but not bad by any means) UI we have as of now. Also has great potential for personal customization per pilot. However where the UI starts to lose me is the fact that the UI felt very restrictive, most likely because the windows are no longer transparent. On top of that for me the window background always had this sort of fuzz to it for some reason. For the most part, Photon UI is a welcome new addition IF the UI is customizable [for the most part color and transparency to make it usable imo] to a decent degree satisfying capsuleer need as they desire.
Edit: Yes we do also understand this is an early beta build (i hope) and will be improved further upon. But I dont think anyone will be using this UI long term unless for the sake of trying it or until it is improved in the future
If you had transparency before bring it down to 0 and then back up - and check if windows are set to light mode (more transparent) in the 3-dot menu on each window.
Also also, please unbreak the contract window - with or without photon activated, it now doesn’t set the contract to private if you drag or type a name in the private slot, it just give you an error when you click next if you haven’t manually set it private
