Photon UI - TQ Feedback Thread

How could this be in any way, shape, or form, considered like a UI update?
image
This same People & Places window, equally sized, with the current UI was displaying about 5-6 folders: now it’s all buttons at the bottom and nothing else.
Seriously, what are you guys even doing with this? Please understand how people play the game and what they need from the UI: this is utterly ridiculous in an information driven game like this one.
At the very least give us an option to retain the original UI or have “Compact Mode” for all the windows.

Also, the entire “in-station” info window is apparently not resizable, nor has any header (I mean, thanks for not wasting space there…) to select transparency or lock/de-lock it from its place.

CCP Please listen to us! This is an information driven game experience, and you’re removing space for that information for big buttons, margins, and padding. Do not do it!

It’s about “My filters” rectangle on the inventory list window who take too much vertical space.
I use the inventory window in station (no compact mode) to see my containers/Ships list and i lost empty space with this new version.

Can also be better for all top rectangle windows to add a size option to make it similar to the top Overview window when needed.

Bookmarks window has a too large header.

So I tried the UI, and while it looks like it could be great, it falls flat on it’s face before it even takes off. I used to be able to fit 5 or 6 of my channels in a given space in the bottom left of my screen. Just the important chats. Now I can fit 3.

Useless. Utterly ■■■■■■■ useless. Why are you trying to steal my screen real estate? Eve is already a game where having information readily available is paramount, and you barely look at your ship as you scoot around New Eden trying to survive/gank people. I had a nice setup, not perfect but it worked. Your new UI will ■■■■ that up, by forcing me to either expand the area covered by chat channels, or /gasp/ close some of them! Heresy, I say!

Apply the nice colour scheme and fonts, but stop making everything take up so much space on my screen! Or sponsor 2 8K monitors so I can run with a resolution that gives me ample screen real estate.

Roll mutaplasmid window has no close button.

Look at all this space you can save.

Hello dear CCP Devs, first off, thank you very much for finally updating the UI
There’s still tons of work ahead, but what i’ve seen by far looks very promising.

One thing apart from many that’s been mentioned here and on previous thread would be ability to set/see exact window height/width, and possibly x,y positions on screen numerically.
Just so i can make pixel perfect UI across my accounts, or a way to export my full list of window sizes/positions across accounts.

Hello,
I like the new UI very much.
Sadly it has a lot of dead space - too much dead space for my screen (resolution). Another point is, that a lot of buttons overlap. That’s why I’ll revert to the old UI for now, but I’m looking forward to using the new UI once the buttons don’t overlap anymore and I can thus actually use it.
I’d also like the option to either export the window sizes, positions and states or simply an option to set the current settings for all accounts.

Why is “Board my Corvette” button larger than “Undock”?

Do you want us to board Corvettes more than undocking?

hi @CCP_Paragon

i like the new UI but it takes to much space
everything could bei 20 to 30% smaller
also the Neocom menu is bigger in the new version

the undock button could be bigger and a different color

ok and the last thing is the feed back link
it points to the old feedback thread and not to this one

thanks guys

First impression: In general, the look is not bad. That’s high praise from someone like me, who generally gets disturbed by even the slightest changes in any UI, so good job there.

However, adding to many other people’s feedback: the new UI seems to be wasteful with space. Especially the buttons are too large and have too much padding. If you intend to keep it like that, at least add a “compact” mode like all those newfangled “primarily designed for your fat fingers on your phone” websites have.

Even worse, the font size in several windows (local pilot list, asset list) is larger than before, and I couldn’t immediately find a way to reduce it. Especially for local, that’s a disaster! If anything, I bet most people want smaller fonts there to fit as many names as possible. That should be easily fixable, though?

I actually love the new UI, especially the ability to completely hide the dialogue for chat window. I can now have local only show the players in the system and avoid the endless chat spamming. My only feedback is the board corvette button. It is the largest button in the hanger window, and seems to be where the undock button was previously. I have accidentally boarded my corvette 3 times now whilst trying to undock. I recommend swapping the locations of the undock button with the board corvette button, and perhaps even creating an option to disable the board my corvette button in the hanger window.

lock icon and headline of window should be smaller. Not often you use them. but its shime like a button. SCAN button on direct scanner should be bigger. and at probe launcher too.

Hi, the option to have window transparency without blur seems to be missing on the new ui! Other than that i think it looks good.

Unusable on a 24 inch monitor even with 90% interface scale

I would suggest so make some borders smaller, so the windows dont have to be that big. Just as an example, Screenshot by Lightshot this could be way smaller. Same in the chat windows and there are lots of spaces between everything, not needed.

And please give an option to disable the glow on the top of the windows

  1. Light theme for cargohold is different when u docked, and undocked, so u need to activate this twise.
  2. Undock buttom - move it down please, on “normal” interface its always was on bottom side.
  3. Border between channels name is invisible - this makes the perception of names worse.
  4. Border between all colums in item hungur (and other panels the same) - also invisible and take more useful space - so collums take more useful space for nothing.
  5. Button for lock (and another that group in …) need to move back all time u lock/unlock. Every time after u lock chat and if u want to unlock - u need to press … and move it. Its kinda strange and comlicated.

I like the general look of the new UI. It’s on a good way for the first iteration. However, there are a few issues that need to be fixed:

  • First and foremost shrink tabs, refuse new tabs, whatever, but DO NOT, for the love of all deities imagined and real, hide tabs (chat, overview) behind the triangle thing. This is worse than refusing to create additional tabs as it actually hides information that we expect to have there.
  • First example is the overview. There is absolutely no need for + or the triangle in the tab toolbar. We just need tabs there. New tabs can be added through settings and there is no point in the triangle. Overview tabs need to be instantly accessible, without wading through drop down menus. Just look at the image below. Huge waste of critically important space.
    Overview_Tab_Bar
  • Similar situation is with chat tabs where a lot less text is show, and controls take up half the bar. Put the add chat to the three dots menu, shrink the controls (make them darken out unless hovered over like in the old UI). Again, please never hide tabs. They have to be visible (just shrink them and we will take care not to overload the tab bar). Please, never hide critical information. Eve is all about information and the primary task of the UI must be to expose this information in the best possible way (and highest density).
    Chat_window_tab_bar
  • There is a lot of vertical padding on the tab bars. This is not needed and just lowers the information density. Please remember that EVE is information based game.
  • For some reason there is a huge amount of padding on some chat windows (forward of the text and to the right of the scroll bar). Honestly I would get rid of the scroll bar and introduce more of a thin line showing that there is scrollable content, we use mice and those can easily use scroll wheel to get around.
    Chat_window_padding
  • Standing tags in chat windows are too big making fewer names fit on the screen. Please shrink these to the old style. PS: these huge tags are especially visible with brighter coloured ones like corp tags.
  • Hovering over a chat tab shows twice the channel name and number of people in it.
    Chat_tab_hover

This was the first reaction. I would dwell more but above issues (especially hiding tabs) makes it not usable at this moment. Please fix those so that we can use this UI during normal gameplay rather than just load it to check it out.

Once again, please do not hide information, do not lower information density, this is NOT a mobile game nor are MS and Google someone to copy when it comes to UI (rather the opposite).

  • Too much unnecessarily wasted (empty) space.
    1,1 2,1
  • Icons/top bar too huge.
  • An option to disable the glow on the top of the windows would be nice.
  • And for some reason I have not been able to set transparency, so there is no difference whether activated or not, with or without blur, with or without background changes in the windows.
