I’ve played since 2005, and have created 8 accounts over that time, I enjoy sometimes spending time in the help channels, hoping to keep this game which I enjoy alive with new players, as does FCCP supposedly.
The basic overview that is loaded when you create a new character is trash. Just take one of the well known alternatives like Z-S and make it the default, or at least better explain somehow to newbies how to change it. If we are going to spend so much time on a new HUD that no one asked for in the pursuit of making the game easier for new people, would it take that much more to do something about the overview?
As far as the tutorial goes, I realize most people skip tutorials, you would hope a new player wouldn’t as it at least gives them a somewhat basic understanding of the game. Perhaps it could be a little bit more in-depth and actually give them something like experience for finishing it. Idk how you make it unskippable for new players and not for vets creating a new alt, but it’s mostly useless too.
I really wonder if people 20yrs ago were just smarter, we figured out the game easier maybe? Maybe there wasnt as much to figure out? Spend a few hours in the rookie help channel, some of the newbies really struggle with the simplest things for some reason. And walking them through how to fix it is like banging your head against a wall.
