I think this whole thread has gone way to deep into modern politics, ethics and sociology. Just abide by eves terms and enjoy the game.
While Iâm entirely for the policy I do fear that the majority of roams will break possibly every single example.
Worst thing is: hipocrisy. It is allowed that one player took all corp assets (maybe even bought with RL money) by game mechanism. Everybody thinks that leader of that corp should just htfu is delusional. Itâs not just pixels anymore when âeve is realâ. Now you want to ban anybody for hate talk? When you not ban something like scams? Because itâs pixels? I donât even scratch the surface what harrasment and hate speach definition is?
For those of you concerned about the extent of CCP policy, I would just suggest you do the following.
Open an in game petition and ask if telling someone to âharden the â â â â upâ is against the EULA. You will be told that using profanity in the game is not acceptable and your account could be subject to sanction. You can argue that online interactions are not rated by the ERSB and they will tell you it doesnt matter. You can argue that whether something is âoffensiveâ or not is a subjective position and they will tell you it doesnt matter.
Let them catch you repeating something their staff has said, in real life, hundreds of times, and they will possibly hit you with a strike for it.
EDIT:
CCP removed the ERSB rating notice from their website and replaced it with the PEGI 12 rating. PEGI 12 - âVideo games that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy characters or non-realistic violence towards human-like characters would fall in this age category. Sexual innuendo or sexual posturing can be present, while any bad language in this category must be mild. Gambling as it is normally carried out in real life in casinos or gambling halls can also be present (e.g. card games that in real life would be played for money).â
âThe game contains bad language. This descriptor can be found on games with a PEGI 12 (mild swearing), PEGI 16 (e.g. sexual expletives or blasphemy) or PEGI 18 rating (e.g. sexual expletives or blasphemy).â
^interesting note about the above rating. âBlasphemyâ is only allowed in games rated PEGI 16 or higher.
The working definition for blasphemy is: âthe act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.â
CCP, the super frequently used word âkillâ and similarly to it âkill commandâ in game Public and Private Chats must be prohibited. This word can have much more tragic consequences than any harassment posted in Policies . It must be prohibited in any third party services or other third party applications, which are used in EVE also.
Moreover, it will be not a bad idea to publish a Modern Educayshun video on forums and in game help menu.
We can no longer participate in âAdvanced Hebrew Studiesâ when incursions end up in our home space. Boo.
In terms of the harassment protection, itâs definitely good. But the rest⌠Iâm not so sure it was a good move. Some people are offended entirely too easy.
EVE Online is not niche game any more,
now is PC game
You know CCP didnât sell itself, right? The owners of CCP sold them. CCP hasnât been self owned in a very very long time.
What about in character racism?
Yeah I do, but your missing THAT point. Enjoy your snow-flake-coddling-EVE.
eh, HTFU
This term is outdated since today.
We need a new meaning to Htfu XD
As both a Black toon AND a Minmatar toon I am doubley-offended!!!
I have read this in other words over the course of years: CCP is unlikely to attempt hard definitions of terms, because âedgelordsâ delight in trolling victims just one word or nuance short of a provided definition. By publishing hard definitions, CCP would enable âedgelordsâ to âedgeâ in new and creative ways, creating an unknown number of new victims.
Itâs not SJWs Iâm worried about, itâs CCP with a history of VERY biased ban decisions, and I mean not only banning, but also waving bans, all the recent crackdown on botting doesnât cover up the fact that the same bots were running free for YEARS despite multitude of reports⌠provided they had the right connections.
CCP has a history of using bans to turn the tide in favor of whoâs currently their favorite rmter. Beers, how the main culprit CCP Falcon likes to call it. Many, many beers.
This is seen firstly as yet another measure to selectively ban people who are in the way of beers. Nothing, literally nothing, prevented banning people for real bad things even before this âpolicy updateâ, so in terms of banning power for real offense, this adds nothing. What it adds is a power to justify the bans of convenience, selectively accusing someone whoâs in the way of beers, for things which half an eve (and all of CODE/gewnies - they are hard to discern) say and do.
I do not trust CCP ability to handle this properly, and CCP has a history of doing it improperly too. I donât know who got in the way of beers so hard that it required crooks to issue this threat of a policy update, but canât see it any other way.
Did it though? You donât think itâs necessary to have a definition for the rules you want players to follow so that everyone can follow the same set of rules?
The definition of racism:
According to an Oxford definition (Oxford Languages | The Home of Language Data):
Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that oneâs own race is superior.
The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
Now, what does the UN think about racism:
racism is a theory of races hierachy which argues that the superior race should be preserved and should dominate the others. Racism can also be an unfair attitude towards another ethnic group. Finally racism can also be defined as a violent hostility against a social group.
As you can clearly see, there are two vastly different definitions. Now, which one is used by CCP? Being the german that I am, I would clearly go with our definition of racism, which matches the Oxford one.
If I would now say something like âI donât believe in more than 2 gendersâ (which I donât, keep in mind that germans donât make a linguistical difference between se* and gender!), it would most likely offend people that are part of the other 1283173127321975235723 genderâs that people claim to be a part of.
Now, you can dispute that the UN is a âcredibleâ source, but I really doubt you would really win that argument.
I hope that this example of varying definitions has made my point a bit more understandable. Itâs unfortunately not as clear as it used to be, so I would like to ask for a more usable definition once more @CCP_Guard @Brisc_Rubal
Just incase you are curious (and to not offend people): We have Gender (which is biological) and se*ual orientation/preference and I do believe that 1283173127321975235723 different orientations might exist ( people can get off on whatever gets them off tbh, I couldnât care less).
Will I get banned for calling people Space Jews when theyâre making lots of ISK? I feel like we need to treat this like the N-word. As a Jew, I should be allowed to say it, but I should also be allowed to get other players banned for saying it. Would appreciate a clarification from CCP.
