Policy Update - Real Life Threats & Harassment

This thread starts to look like the general discussion now, It only lacks Salvos. :margaritaparrot:

When I read these new Policy rules, the first idea in my mind was like ‘What in the World is happening there, at summit?’. Good questions, btw. Some answers can be found in Wikipedia, but all of them are vague.

Well, serious harassment can be:

  • Real world stalking
  • Encouraging or enabling self-harm
  • Doxing
  • Racism
  • Sexism

but

  • Verbal abuse
  • Abusive messaging
  • Online stalking
  • Social Media stalking
  • Hate speech

are soooo vague. First of all just ban the Oxford Dictionary. Ban all those words like: ‘idiot’, ‘dumb’, ‘incompetent’, ‘stupid’, ‘motherf*cker’ and other hundreds of similar words. People, civilizations used these words for centuries and they were implemented into language by some reasons. Well, English isn’t my native language, but explain me pls, how to use the word ‘stupid’ into none-offense or none verbal abusing form???

‘that cover photo proves he is one talented ■■■■■■■■■■■■’

‘it’s a scorching, swooping, diving, all-out ■■■■■■■■■■■■ of a record’

About Online Stalking I have a version to explain.

Online Stalking in EVE is - when a player steals somebody Keepstar and 1 T ISK, opens all chats and inviting available witnesses afterwards and begins to giggle into chats when the Keepstar owner will log in at 5:00 am.

Legit!

The unclear policy can lead to unfair consequences - ‘the freedom to the friends, the law to the enemies!’. Practically it happens at courts next way:

  • When a friend violates rules the response will be “You didn’t understood him correctly, he meant another thing…”;
  • When a foe violates same rules the response will be “See? He’s a dictator, Hitler, the worst man on the Earth…”

Actually, CCP officially opened Pandora’x box in such a social MMO like EVE is, where the gameplay is based on a lot of conversations between players.

Yeah some words act like the dubble edge sowrd.

Ignourant as example can be like adjective like forgive my ignourancy or something like this.
But when i say to some one you are ignourant then dose this mean this is an offensive ?
Other example stop being ignournat ?

how to deal with it ?

I see words start with F to be bandable because it is lake manner saying it from my precpictive.
Some one see it like “Soo” or “very” words.

I have been banned twice for this rule so far…

I had a scammer a couple of years ago that got me banned for “Doxing” him.

He was doing scams with an alt and using a tiny url site (cant remember the one), but he had the link against his registered account. Not only that but all of his tiny links were visible, so some of them went back and referenced his main. The guy was a total Idiot. He’s in like his 3rd year for information security from a high-level university in the USA.

The other one was Nyphur, I didn’t link him to anything real-life, but I did link him because he accidentally posted on the forums by selecting the wrong alt (back when you had to pick them in the drop down when replying). CCP went all bananas back then trying to clear that up, they even cleared years old forum post that he had so there would be nothing leading back to him.

Also take note, “sexism” could earn you a vacation… Guess all the chatter about avatars large breast are now something they might stop…

It’s also worrying that CCP say they are going to police EvE outside of the game.

VOIP services.
Live streaming services.
Video hosting services.
Text based communication services.
Social media platforms.
Third party blog publishing sites.

All of that basically means that now Alliance Warfare will flow outside of the game. Large alliances will make fake accounts for leadership of other large alliances and then, after a bit of to and fro, report them.

Ah well…
I guess if there is “Real Life” threats that it’s good they are taking action.
Seeing how I reported a stolen account to them and they never took action on it until the account holder returned from deployment, well… Lets hope they are more willing to look at things openly.

@Elizabeth_Norn you know what a joke is yes?

However, since you want to get serious about it. It is technically a crime there now, that doesn’t mean anyone will ever actually be prosecuted (someone has to actual report, and then a follow up investigation and proving in court that you are actually trans as that will most definitely be called for by the defense and that the misrepresentation was malicious). Believe it or not, most people who are actually trans just want to be referred to by the other pronoun and are adult enough to shrug off or laugh when the wrong one is used. The key is to be respectful, the problem comes when fringe groups try to speak for the whole and put everyone in an awkward position. There was never a need for a law, let alone pass it with such generalized language to have it now technically classified it as hate speech rather than harassment (which it already fell under for any extreme case that actually needs action taken against).

My rant is done. These changes are good. The fact that each report is still going to be taken on a case by case basis means that we can expect little change as far as far as how we see action taken currently. Also that this was all indeed done for clarity even if the internet and extreme SJW types have attempted to muddy the definition of words which is what has thrown some people into a fit here. At the end of the day CCP hasn’t changed, I highly doubt they’ve turned SJW on us over night. I mean, how would you even begin to use the screwed definition of racism in the context of a game? Only the devs can be racist because they are the only ones with power? lol ridiculous. Just be respectful, it’s not that hard.

It can be funny in one way, but completely not funny in another way:

i try not to respond to goonswarm ahats but i have a question. you actively promote a system that breeds hatred above no other game that i know of…then get upset when a goon gets offed in r/l? i do not condone such actions, but you allowed the monster to grow beyond its limits…now it runs the show and not you. so my question is this, nevermind, i made my point fairly well without your input.

All i want to say, is, how retarded are people if they put into this game REAL LIFE INFORMATION, and another thing, how bloody old you guys are? at 14 kids knows more swearwords than modern 21 year old. Before, eve was all about freedom of speech and actions, in game of course, and didnt seem to have idiots whos tryin to find girlfriend via EVE… getting banned for telling jerk hes a jerk? verbal abuse? CCP, i did pause playing eve every year for a year because u went wrong way and i was hoping u will get back on track, u had 40 k ppl online on average, now hardly 20 k and now every fifth player has a fleet of alts when before people needed to pay for every account so there was very small amount of alts so its even less thank 15 k ppl online!!! all because you screw the game more and more, and im next one to leave forever now since u made idiotic rules to suit babies and nerds. ban me or what ever… im not coming back any way

C-16 Will Not Impede Freedom of Expression
Recently, the debate has turned to whether the amendments will force individuals to embrace concepts, even use pronouns, which they find objectionable. This is a misunderstanding of human rights and hate crimes legislation.

http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/questions-and-answers-about-gender-identity-and-pronouns

What does the Ontario Human Rights Code say about gender issues?
Ontario added explicit protection for gender identity and gender expression to the Code in 2012. The Code prohibits discrimination and harassment against trans people in employment, services (including education, policing, health care, restaurants, shopping malls, etc.), housing, contracts and membership in vocational associations. The Code does not specify the use of any particular pronoun or other terminology.

The Act applies throughout Canada, but only to federally regulated activities; each province and territory has its own anti-discrimination law that applies to activities that are not federally regulated.

Cossman says it seems Peterson is trying to argue that the misuse of pronouns could constitute hate speech.
“I don’t think there’s any legal expert that would say that [this] would meet the threshold for hate speech in Canada,” she says.
Our courts have a very high threshold for what kind of comments actually constitutes hate speech, and the nature of speech would have to be much more extreme than simply pronoun misuse, according to Cossman.
“The misuse of pronouns is not equivalent to advocating genocide in any conceivable manner,” she continues. “If he advocated genocide against trans people, he would be in violation, but misusing pronouns is not what that provision of the code is about.”

Guard wrote multiple posts clarifying this further now. They will also look at the context and they will talk to those people first and warn them. Except if you make rl threads, then they have to take it seriously.

And your proof is what? A few extremely isolated incidents? Because I don’t buy it. Every actual study has shown violence in general going down over time and the only correlation with videogames being a reduced likelihood to commit violent acts. Mean words on the internet actually tend to not escalate considerably more often than they escalate.

You are conflating an entirely separate issue which is criminal already (‘harassment’) with something else (disagreement - even ‘mean’ disagreement) and using dishonest, disingenuous and outright fallacious arguments to support it.

THE LINE IS BEING DELIBERATELY OBFUSCATED BECAUSE NO CLEAR CONCISE EXAMPLES ARE BEING PROVIDED. You are encouraging weaponizing a community against “mean things” being said and refuse to actually engage with the idea that some people might have some legitimate concerns with this.

As an aside, actioning against things that were said on other sites (eg discord, twitter, reddit) probably violates the GDPR protections that were just put out.

Do you want me to post the petition where I was told I could be banned for telling someone to “harden the ■■■■ up”? The same petition where the GM explicitly tried to cite the Teen ESRB rating as the reason why telling someone to “harden the ■■■■ up” could get me in trouble?

Just reading what you have wrote and the response I got to my petition shows that there are wildly different interpretations of the policies surrounding such matters.

And obviously that is the only thing you wrote? No prior chatting, just HTFU without anything else? Yes?

I didnt even actually say anything. You can call it a “proactive petition” if you like.

Since it will be easier than responding to anyone who has specific questions, here is a pastebin of the entire ticket from start to finish.

Actually in real life, the way you get rid of hate speech is honestly let it happen and shine the brightest light you can on it happening.

As a American I cant help but remember the KKK rally that was on tv, which seemed crazy at the time. But all that publicity started showing the people and their faces on tv that followed this philiosophy. Shortly after many of these people lost their jobs and were basically friendless afterwards because their communities had no idea they thought this way, until they saw them on tv. Lets just say the KKK isn’t so interested in getting on tv anymore. Opressing these people never helped do the kind of damage to them that free speech and the shining light of day ever did.

But this is not how the internet works, and a completely different approach has to be handled here.

Good job CCP, now you have become that mainstream Boizz that threat anything like “real life harasment”. When are you going to introduce that scam and camping are against the rules because it makes people feel stupid?

PEGI specifically brings real world religion in to this by only allowing “blasphemy” in games rated PEGI 16 or higher. As eve online carries a PEGI 12 rating, “blasphemy” is not allowed. Are you going to warn players who engage in “blasphemy”, which by the way, is constitutionally protected in some countries. I only bring up the constitutional protections as you had mentioned them in a previous response.

Look new owners made CCP to turn for 180 in just few days !!!

This policy is definitely something you would want settled before bringing in Chinese players if that was your intent.

From what I have heard many Chinese tend to be racist since their culture views it differently.

But I am sure CCP knows what to expect from the Chinese after running the other sever.
