An this is how a frog is boiling …
Er, no, you used racism in your example / in CCP’s post. Stop waffling and answer the question:
If someone makes a real life threat that is currently already bannable, what difference does tacking on a “racism” tag do?
So after some research I found out that Sion Kumitomo was banned from CSM because CCP Leeloo was wanting it and made a rule that excluded him from running, because he was very critical of her, because CSM wanted a meeting with CCP and she did not do anything, and she was CCP Falcon fiancee.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/6ft86y/whatever_happened_with_sion_kumitomo/
CCP Falcon had his fingers wet with Monument Affair, and There is article that is unavailable now to see.
Sion “sets the record straight” in a post which is full of quotes like “they [CCP] opted to do was to protect the people involved, protect the people associated with the vandals”, “CCP Falcon, despite knowing full well that the vandalism was committed by a pair of Goonswarm members, apologized to Goonswarm for people wrongly accusing us.”, “He went out of his way to ensure that no one knew who was responsible and fought internally to make sure that it stayed that way.”, “He is the reason why those stacks of articles don’t all say Goonswarm vandalizes monument”, “they reversed all the permanent bans. All of them.”, “the prohibitions on attending future EVE events was lifted. For that again, CCP Falcon was in large part responsible.”.
If all of this is true, you know what to think. I am only providing materials.
However the Imperium “diplomats” perfectly weaponized both the vandalism mishandling and the Reddit toxic and created a narrative where CCP Falcon is ready to do anything to protect Goons from any danger. I’m - for the first time in the campaign - fear that this is something I won’t be able to defeat. Do you think there is a “Developer Harassment” item on the “why are you leaving EVE” questionaire? I’ve found “player harassment” but that doesn’t really apply to my situation.
I think its SJWTFU now… when did we become so delicate?
I get that “swatting” is a horrible practice and that actions rising to that level should include a ban among other things (prison etc), but this just allows people to “harvest salt” and if the person loses their temper the “harvester” will gleefully report them for bonus “salt”.
This encourages people to TRY and get those they don’t like banned.
Then why is Mittani still part of the community? Oh right, no retroactive punishment after rule changes. That’s also why he was unbanned after 30 days.

On another note: I hope that the GMs are being educated properly and extensively so that mishaps like accidentally warning or banning people because the GMs mix up buttons after a report are minimized to 0%. This is especially important as the number of support tickets with regards to threats will increase in volume. Recent personal experiences do not lend much credibility to the education processes, however.
Makes me wonder what will happen if I tell “John Doe to drown himself on Matigu”.
How many CSM members are from the country between Canada and Mexico?
He should have been banned permanently.
If for botting someone can get permaban, such wording was definitely permabannable.
CCP being CCP failed to grasp that.
Ofc he should, no matter the policy that time. He was a leader of one of the biggest group that time, very influencial player. Rules should be extended.
For hate speech…
So I can scam or stole other players assets but if the same will happen to me I can’t wrote: “you fu***** ni**** I will ra** you in your fat ass” for doing it?. You are allowing actions that are crimes in RL you can’t select which you want to choose. It is either. It’s not “pixels” anymore if you’ll enforcing RL laws into the game. It’s even worse when players don’t know the definitions. What is sexisms for example? Do we have two genders or more?
So you want basicly about 75% of the playerbase to get cornfielded…
And Mittens at least apologized. I know a couple of guys, which never did that and are still around. Also, Gigx did way more than threatening somebody. Repeatedly.
That stink will come after him and CCP for eternity. CCP could have done one thing, permaban him, to remove that stain forever, that would be a sane idea. They did wrong thing by not acting harsher and it forever changed the community. Now, when anybody mentions Gigx, CCP look like hypocrites.
Lesson learned too late for CCP and everyone who will do moderating, treat such people like Mittani with permabans.
More like people showing their lack of understanding on how rules & punishments evolve alongside society & culture.
Stealing a loaf of bread could get your hands chopped off.
Now it’s likely to get you diverted into community service. (Depending on country).
Cyber crimes on the inverse used to be treated as non existent, but now are treated just as seriously as if you did them in the real world.
EVE’s policies have evolved with the times also, but someone punished under old policies is not going to get retroactively banned for something they’ve already served their punishment for.
Do you know the business rule which said: to get rid of old habits and old rules you must get rid of old employee.
Business is tough and do not have sentiments.
That is only because legislative bodies act disproportionately to the seriousness of acts. That is not justice. Legal actions are not always proportional to weight of a deed.
We can accuse CCP of injustice.
Just stick to ingame references. Instead of “I rape you IRL” use “I stretch your sorry Caldari bottom in a dark corner on Jita 4-4”. No RL threats involved, but still satisfying rage. Isn’t that so, CCP?
Note there is and has always been a clause that says Roleplay is not an excuse to break rules.
Now sure some latitude is certainly going to be given for roleplay insults that wouldn’t for player insults, but go around throwing even roleplay rape threats and I’m sure warnings will ensue.
It would probably fall under “Verbal abuse”. However, that category is very vague and a lot of things can be seen as verbal abuse. It’s going to be interesting to see where CCP draws the line considering that scaming, stealing and other RL criminal activities are part of normal gameplay.
None of those normal gameplay elements rely on treating people as trash or heaping abuse on them though.
You can gank, steal & scam and still show basic respect for the player on the other end.
You could, but not everyone is as composed as you like, not even CCP with CCP Falcon being a prime example. Radio silence after a gank in some instances infuriates attackers so much that they resort to colorful language to tickle their target into a response. The cuck-fests in Niarja local from CODE jump to my mind.
Well, perhaps that’s one of the intended targets of this review of the terms.
To bring those people back to simple ganking rather than deliberately trying to troll people into a response.
Or you know, it may not be.
But that sort of person is someone deliberately trying to push the line. So yeah…
CCP certainly wields a dual edged sword here.
One person with a fairly large sphere of influence in CCP circles blatantly calls for someone to commit suicide in a prepared public speech at a CPP organised and led event and gets away with no repercussions.
Another basically gets his EVE life ripped away from him by a player close to CCP as in being a CSM and voices his frustration and anger is a spur of the moment comment pretty much in line with how these things playout in RL in the region he is from (without any actual follow up) and gets an immediate ban.
Yes, CCP will take care of their own.
Setting up policy is pointless if you do not equally enforce them with anyone. And there is some such grey area that it’s really not workable anyway. CODE will abuse the holes in this net to their hearts content and will not see any consequence. Others may incidentally slip and get banned… Not saying either is good or bad, just that it will happen.
