Policy Update - Real Life Threats & Harassment

I think the incidents you mentioned are some of the exact things that led to a policy to begin with, where people crossed the line. You cant go back and retry someone but you can insure it doesn’t happen again.

As CODE goes, I am not worried for CODE, they are fine, it was the people they infuriate and cause to lash out that could possibly be at risk. But I think CCP has a pretty good understanding of rage with loss and I doubt they jump to banning someone for saying stupid things.

I actually believe equal enforcement is what is going to happen, but you cant have that without a base of rules established.

I would also like to point out that the gaming community in general uses the word rape a whole lot. In fact Ultima Online made the word illegal to say in game and systematically banned people for saying it. Needless to say they lost a hefty amount of players due to this policy. I also have seen other games like League try to warn and punish players for using the word rape. However knowing many gamers, and most always being male, it is a heavily used term still usually out of game. Usually to signify getting totally destroyed by someone else. The community seemed to try to shift the word rape to pwn at one time but it doesn’t seem to have caught on.

What I am saying is I don’t believe it is proper to use rape in most contexts, I also don’t believe removing people for using it as a in game term should be bannable (EA was wrong).

Could always substitute with ‘canola’.

CCP made in EVE a social environment, where you are allowed to DO very toxic things silently and are perma-banned for SAYING toxic things. It reminds me the superb Charlie Chaplin movies.

You say “Lets watch what CCP does with this”, then I have a suggestion to rename EVE to EVE Online Muted.

“African” ? Are you freakin’ serious ? And btw, there’s no such thing as “american” =)

Isn’t saying you speak American cultural appropriation of the English language?

Well. The UN talks about that now for how long? 16 odd years. #unisuseless

It doesn’t make a difference. But, again, you are the one who brought up racism. I responded to your point about “the best way to combat racism is to talk to the racist.”

The point of banning someone for making a threat isn’t to change their mind, it’s to remove them from the community so they have no outlet for making more threats or trying to escalate them.

Everybody should just close chat and never use it again. Its the only way to be perfectly sure you will not write anything bad and will not be provoked. :joy:

Or, one could simply not say things that will bring the hammer down. It’s not that hard to be civil.

His punishment was nothing more than a joke. He should have been perma-banned, never to return. The “man” is a disgrace.

That’s why CCP making rules is a joke. Friends don’t make friends follow the rules.
