Poll: How many people changed their perspective/position thanks to your arguments?

You’re all wrong and I’m %100 correct.

Happy new year.

I don’t expect it’s any, and I learnt on here years ago, that even trying to change someone’s mind is a pretty futile aim.

So I post:

  1. to answer someone’s question if I have the knowledge
  2. to put a different perspective on an issue without trying to change anyone’s mind, but to broaden discussion or ideas
  3. because I think some people are ■■■■■■■ idiots (and they probably think I’m a ■■■■■■■ idiot also, and that’s perfectly fine. Written, sequential exchange often causes misunderstanding, so people will disagree all the time)
  4. because claims get made (often put as factual) that are just plainly wrong with even a simple review
  5. because I’m an EVE tragic and think all views (not just my own, but including my own) should be expressed on all ideas, because the way to keep the game great is for it to continue to provide for a lot of different playstyles, not just a few.

If in the process, someone changes their mind on an issue, then great, but their original view is likely just as valid as any that I express, but they just see it from a different perspective.

I do truly feel your pain. I sent an alt in to scout her out. But in the end, the mess it would have made would have been bad. The precedent it would have set would have taken CCP a year to clean up. Better time spent else ware for them. That being said, I did love the idea! :black_heart:

I changed @Archer_en_Tilavine’s mind about SICO being a newbie scam corp - does that count? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My posts are aimed at sharing information with players who do not have that data, or are missing perspectives to understand a scenario. I’m not aiming to prove people wrong - especially when it comes to opinion-based assessments.

None, but I’ve changed my mind on a number of things due to well written posts explaining aspects of how EVE works, especially with regard PVP. I even shot (in game, on my main) the person who had the most effect on my thinking.
(It’s because of Sol that this character even exists.)

You changed my mind on some things on the thread about plex just yesterday!

Yeah, it’s pretty rare to change people’s minds on here. On the internet as a whole, really. But this is forum about a video game. Like 80% of posters on here should probably strive to be less of a dick on here lol. Somebody will post that the windows on some ship look weirdly smaller or something, and within 10 seconds you’ll have 4 posters accusing the poster of trying to destroy EvE with their big window propaganda.

I think you underestimate the value of what you do if you think the number is zero.

There are few people who go to the lengths you do to compile hard numbers. A person who’ll do that work and who you can trust to present those numbers honestly is going to change minds. It just doesn’t happen in an instant. Sometimes people realize they’re wrong hours, days, or weeks later, but that change won’t be made apparent.

Also of note is that the information you compile is often broadly applicable and so affects people’s views on related topics far into the future. The importance of your providing a solid basis for people to make future judgements should not be dismissed, either.

Where’re the “Don’t know” and “Don’t know, don’t care” options. The first would be particularly interesting to me because I don’t stalk people to find out if they changed their minds. If I had to make a guess, it is probably close to 0 because I usually argue with people on this forum who are hellbent on not changing their minds over anything.

Also I think there is just too much misunderstandings that dont get resolved in time and peeps start arguing over the thing they would not argue about if they would know something from beginning, or sometimes people are so fixated on something they dont see anything else. If you can resolve misunderstanding, the arguing stops.

To do that you need to assume people dont know everything, including yourself.

And sometimes some people are not really keen on sharing the knowledge or they are not understood.

The sharing of knowledge puts them in somewhat compromised position, because they now are not the ones who can use it agains others, or their position is not very strong by their own assesment.

I’ve been reading all of the posts and I’m thinking about them.
Right now I’m too busy to sit down and write a longer response.
