i love the new odysseus coming out, however, when are yall going to fix the porpoise? i mean the orca and rorqual can at least cut ice with drones but due to size, the porpoise cannot. yeah, they can sit in a field and boost/compress, but they are next to useless in gas fields. we need gas drones or allow them to use a harvesters.
they dont have to mine as much as a hulk or anything, but at least give them something to do other than be a pvp magnet.

You could try an Odysseus for gas huffing boosting.
It has a lot of effective gas scoops, a big hold for gas and can fit mining links.
Or the Outrider seems to be a cheaper alternative with better gas yield than the Porpoise, smaller and more mobile than the Porpoise so ideal for gas.

The highest priority for the Porpoise (and the Noctis, and the Primae) ought to be replacing their hideous model with something, anything, else.
The Porpâs purpose is to provide boosts and compression. Itâs the big brother to the Gnosis (can only boost) and the little brother to the Orca (Ship Maintenance Bay and larger everything). Seems to be pretty decent upgrade path already.
Porpoise can mine Ore with drones. And an Ice Harvesting Drone also fits.
But tbh I donât think we need more drone-mining in the game, it should be played actively, not âdrones out and waitâ. The fleet already benefits from the boost- and compression-ability, quite a lot. Still not enough?
You can also use a Gnosis, give up the Compression ability and just use the boost and some gas scoops.

no, just sitting and boosting and compressing every 5 minutes isnt enough for a $450m ship. give it a single scoop or a couple harvesters, that would be cool as well or a gas drone. it doesnt matter to me either way. just give it something to actively do.

But if you wish to be gas scooping while boosting, why not take a look at the new Outrider?
Itâs a destroyer that can equip three gas scoops and provide mining boosts at the level of an uncored Porpoise.
No problem. Fit a Core Probe Launcher in case a new sig spawns you can quickly scan it down to see if itâs a wormhole (which might be dangerous). Volunteer to be the one that hits the Dscan every so often so your mining crew donât gets surprised with someone combat probing you. Fit a tractor beam and have Ventures or other ships with a small cargo jettison their compressed gas once in a while to store it in the Porpoise. Be creative.
Besides that, what does âactively doâ mean when gas huffing? You just activate the Scoops ONCE and then you do nothing actively any more until your cargo is full of gas or the cloud is gone.
Looks to me that you simply want to make âmore moneyâ.

im interested in that but it doesnt compress. look the orca and rorqual can mine and compress all the resources including gas. the porpoise can only do ore. throw it a bone and let it huff and compress gas.
i dont see the fitting on that porpoise, i cant really judge it. oooh, it bare bones, ok. do with a good fit itll be close to⌠what, $450m? like mine.

You can easily have a decent T2/meta Porpoise fit for 20 million, adding to a hull cost of 140 for a 160 million ISK ship.
Even if you add T2 core and a compressor youâre only 75 million further.
I donât know how much bling you put on your Porpoise to make it a 450 million ISK ship, but if you do choose to pay almost three times the going price of a fit Porpoise, why are you complaining about the high cost of your ship?
because it cant solo gas huff. even slowly. you can solo mine AND compress with the other 2 on everything but gas. the porpoise can only compress gas and ore. at lease let it mine the gas it compresses.
instead of tearing it down, why dont yall pitch in ideas to make the ship more useful? if you have an alternative idea share it. wouldnt take anything to make gas drones under the mining tab and let them receive the same bonuses mining drones do.
The Porpoise is not a solo miner, so why do you want to use it as one?
Just bring a Prospect instead for solo gas huffing. Or a Venture, or the new Pioneer.
The Porpoise is a fantastic ship and has a good role, just donât try to make it do things that it isnât good at.
give it a new role. since it cant do 3/5 of the resources, let it be the only ship that can fit a huffer or make gas drones to help. itll be something the rorqual couldnt do and the orca wouldnt dare do.. gas huff. with a good scanning clone and fittings, you can make the porpoise almost impossible to scan. thatll give time to shut off the core and gtfo. assuming that it gets drones.

While it cannot compress mercoxit, moon ore or ice it can certainly be a great cheap booster for mercoxit, moon ore or ice.
I love using my own Porpoise to boost my Hulk in mercoxit anomalies and when I was mining moon ore last weekend I had a lot of benefit from the boosts of various Porpoises.
Donât mistake the lack of a compressor for âunable to boostâ those resources. The Porpoise still brings a huge ore hold and strong boosts on a cheap affordable platform.
Nothing wrong with change, but it should be a change to improve the game. Not just a âplease give me more more more!â kind of suggestion that we see too often on the forums.
The Porpoise is in a good place and currently doesnât need more.

cant mine AND compress. it can compress gas and normal roids but can only mine 1 of those. at lease let it mine both of the ores it can compress.
Itâs a mining command ship, they donât have turrets and donât mine. They boost the mining barges who do the mining.
Why not try the new Mining Command Destroyer, the Outrider?
It may be missing the extra mining burst strength from an industrial core and the larger ore holds, but it does have three turrets to mine, which makes it ideal for small scale agile mining operations!

You would be pretty stupid to gas huff solo in a Porpoise.
Itâs as stupid as solo mining in an Orca.
These ships arenât meant to be miners and they shouldnât be, we had this era already and they were redesigned to be pure Booster and Support ships for a reason. Lets not walk backwards. Porpoise is in a perfect spot at the moment. Itâs cheap, it offers great boni to the fleet and adds more options if utilizing a core and compressor. Fine thing.
